Chapter 422: Dark Demon Never Cheats (50/233)
“Very well, very healthy!”
Dark looked at the vampire noble’s crying face, stroking his chin as he thought, “Being able to cry is a blessing. It seems the enlightenment effect of ‘Bliss III’ is stronger than I imagined.”
When Dark pondered for a bit longer, the vampire noble’s sobs gradually weakened.
But the moment his gaze fell upon her face, she began to wail loudly again.
Dark had raised over ten children before; he could see through her little trick easily. He didn’t expose her, instead slightly bending down to pick her up.
The vampire noble immediately stretched out her tiny hands, clinging onto him, sobbing rhythmically while rubbing her face against Dark’s.
Before long, half of Dark’s face was wet.
While letting the vampire noble cry, he injected mana into the mana card again, quickly receiving more feedback.
Since this “Vampire Noble” could indeed be used, it was necessary to understand it more thoroughly.
First…
Her race was Undead, with an attribute of Dark.
Mana was at the top level for a seven-star — 3500. Her attack was slightly lower than Bastemon, only 3200, and her defense was even lower, at 2500.
This configuration of stats could barely be categorized as a high-mana golem. Given that it was a gold card, there must be something outstanding about it, likely in her ultimate skills.
The “Vampire Noble” possessed four ultimate skills. These were: Vampire Secret Ritual, Vampire Fang, Blood Sacrifice, and Death Embrace.
Just from their names, they gave a very powerful impression.
Dark’s mind stirred, focusing on the most ordinary-sounding ultimate skill— “Vampire Fang”!
Suddenly, he had a premonition that this “Vampire Fang” might bring him a surprise!
“Let me see.”
[Vampire Fang: A vampire pierces its fangs into the prey’s veins, calming them while making them experience bliss.]
“Sss! It really is the effect I guessed. I wonder if it can truly convert ‘Wrath’ into ‘Bliss’?”
Dark couldn’t wait to try it but looked back at the little乖乖in his arms who was still “waaah waaahing”. His excitement instantly turned dull.
“There will be another chance. No rush.”
Then he began from the start, looking at the first ultimate skill— “Vampire Secret Ritual.”
This ultimate skill named after a secret ritual made him slightly anticipate.
[Vampire Secret Ritual: Using a four-star or higher vampire as a sacrifice, one can specially summon the Vampire Noble. If a Mana Spirit or Mana Nightmare Demon is present, the Vampire Noble can be summoned directly.]
“Cheat?”
Dark couldn’t help but blurt out.
“Waaah!”
As if sensing someone talking about her behind her back, the vampire noble’s cries suddenly grew louder.
Dark looked at the next ultimate skill— “Blood Sacrifice.”
[Blood Sacrifice: By sacrificing blood, life (mana) can be converted into an equivalent amount of attack or defense, usable only once for an attack or to resist damage.]
“Converting mana into attack or defense… If I remember correctly, the ‘Vampire Noble’ in ‘Yu-Gi-Oh!’ also had a similar effect. Could the last ultimate skill’s effect be…”
[Death Embrace: Any life bitten by the Vampire Noble turns into a suffering wraith after death, controlled by the Vampire Noble for three minutes.]
“It really is this effect!”
Dark couldn’t help but gasp, then lowered his head to rub the back of the vampire noble.
These four ultimate skills of the Vampire Noble were each more problematic than the last, no wonder Professor Harvey warned him.
Among them, “Blood Sacrifice” and “Death Embrace” were powerful enough to turn the tide, but the real practicality came from “Vampire Secret Ritual”!
With just the presence of a Mana Spirit or Mana Nightmare Demon, she could be summoned instantly without any cost, reaching seven stars in mana.
And in daily life, she could be summoned more conveniently.
“If I had known about this effect earlier, I wouldn’t have needed to use sacrificial summoning.”
Dark shook his head slightly, finally having the time to deal with the fake crying lady.
He didn’t dawdle, stretching his hand under the vampire noble’s armpit, tickling her until she was trembling, crying and laughing, pleading for mercy.
However, her language ability was still limited, making her pleas sound muffled like she had a banana in her mouth.
Dark wasn’t surprised.
Digital monsters were special beings that could speak human language from birth.
Although the vampire noble had a human form, she needed to learn later in life.
But it wasn’t a big problem; there were plenty of early education materials at home.
After amusing the vampire noble, Dark held her on his lap, looking up at the ceiling, feeling genuinely tired.
He thought for a moment, handing her over to the Imp Beast, setting an alarm to take a nap.
Before that, he didn’t forget to summon the Mana Spirit.
In fact, the Mana Spirit had already fully recovered at the end of the ritual.
But theoretically, the Mana Spirit and Vampire Noble were still containers for the Demon King.
It wouldn’t be strange if the Demon King appeared one day.
However, Magus had strong control over their created mana spirits. If the Demon King were to appear within them, it would be like walking into a trap.
Moreover, the intelligence of the Mana Spirit and Vampire Noble was granted by the Demon God’s “Capital Sin,” and given the class hierarchy, it was unlikely to be replaced by the Demon King.
Dark was quite confident about this.
Following the professors’ logic, if all the containers for the Demon King were turned into mana spirits, one day it would inevitably come.
Then the problem would be solved once and for all.
“Speaking of the Demon King, I wonder how the Church will react when they discover the Demon King has escaped. Will they announce it publicly? Although the probability is low, these days I should pay more attention to The Wise One Daily…”
“Furthermore, this ritual was an unexpected event. Even without this ritual, the Demon King’s escape was inevitable.
But the place where the Demon King was sealed is completely secret; no one outside the Church knows about it. I originally had no idea how it managed to escape, but now it seems it has something to do with the previous Archbishop.”
“I wonder what their reaction would be if they went to great lengths to break the seal and found out the Demon King was dead.”
Thinking about it, Dark gradually fell asleep under the Mana Spirit’s licking.
The fully recovered Mana Spirit’s eyes lit up, revealing a hungry expression.
…
On the second day of April.
The students were still coming out of the aftermath of the Easter Duel Festival.
The first-year students entered the summoning class room and instinctively looked for the champion of the festival.
But Dark Demon, who usually arrived early, was absent today.
It wasn’t until the second Mana Theory class that Dark appeared, looking slightly sleepy.
Professor Kazel nodded at him as he entered, seemingly aware of what happened last night.
After a short delay, Wit and Robert rushed into the classroom when the bell rang.
But Professor Kazel merely let them sit down without deducting points.
The Mana Theory class began with an active atmosphere and concluded smoothly.
Dark skipped breakfast and planned to eat at the canteen, but Professor Kazel called him after class.
He initially thought Professor Kazel wanted to discuss last night’s events, but that wasn’t the case.
“You didn’t draw the Transfiguration Spell?” Professor Kazel asked as they walked towards the office.
Dark smacked his forehead, realizing he almost forgot about one of the rewards from the duel festival.
“Yes, Professor. But it’s not a complete mana card.”
Professor Kazel smiled, “That Transfiguration Spell was custom-made. You just need to write your own transfiguration spell to complete it. If you need it, I can teach you personally.”
“Of course.” Dark responded, then curiously asked, “Professor, is that Transfiguration Spell like the one from Professor Pavar Jones or Professor Claire Kate?”
Professor Kazel paused for a moment before replying, “It should be more like Professor Jones’s.”
“That’s fine too.” Dark nodded, “If I successfully create the Transfiguration Spell, can I transform freely?”
Professor Kazel spun his wand and said, “Don’t get too excited. Being able to transform freely isn’t something you can achieve right now. Moreover, those spells aren’t necessarily better than single-transformation spells.”
Dark realized, “So I can transform into anything? Like a bear?”
Professor Kazel shook his head, “I don’t know. Everyone’s suitable form is different. The Transfiguration Spell I made limits the forms to common beasts. You might turn into a cat or maybe a mouse.”
Dark clicked his tongue.
Professor Kazel smiled, “How about it? Still want to learn?”
Dark laughed, “Of course. But Professor, are there advanced Transfiguration Spells that allow transformation into magical creatures?”
Professor Kazel drew an upward diagonal line with his wand and smiled, “There are. But transforming into magical creatures or monsters requires not only knowledge and skill but also talent. Professor Pavar Jones has a unique talent in this area. If you’re interested in exploring it later, you can talk to her.”
Dark replied, “I’ll consider it once I reach a mid-level proficiency in Mana Language.”
Professor Kazel stopped and pointed at a fork in the path, “That way leads to the cafeteria. Come find me when you’re ready to learn.”
Dark covered his slightly rumbling stomach, cheeks flushing, and waved at the professor, “Alright, I’ll go. See you later, Professor.”
Professor Kazel watched his figure disappear quickly, unable to help but smile.
…
From this day on, Dark Demon’s life at the Mana Academy returned to normal.
Instead of immediately learning Transfiguration from Professor Kazel, he spent some time organizing the knowledge he had acquired and what he hadn’t, then used the rest of his time to care for the child.
Despite appearing to be around eight or nine years old, the vampire noble’s mental age was much younger.
Dark introduced her to Deoxys, assigning Deoxys to handle her early education.
Deoxys was already adept at such tasks. Though it seemed uninterested on the surface, it was very patient and diligent in teaching, making it a superb tutor.
Dark supervised from the side, using a carrot-and-stick approach to encourage the vampire noble to study diligently.
Among all his mana spirits excluding digital monsters, the vampire noble had the strongest language learning ability.
According to Dark’s estimation, she would soon surpass Ditto and learn to speak within ten to fifteen days.
Communication would then become much easier.
Before bed, Dark endured her wailing and forcibly returned her to the mana card, making her a member of the Watchers Alliance.
Without being registered in Paradise, Dark couldn’t provide mana to her constantly.
Though she could replenish mana through “Vampire Fang,” it was unrealistic.
Having settled the vampire noble, Dark finally got a good night’s sleep.
The next morning.
After morning exercises and a shower, Dark came to his desk and took out today’s copy of The Wise One Daily from the basket brought by the Imp Beast to read carefully.
However, the newspaper contained only trivial matters.
“It seems even The Wise One Daily doesn’t have major news every day. Has the Church indeed hidden the news of the Demon King’s escape? Or perhaps they haven’t had the time to announce it?”
“But considering the turmoil such news could cause, they probably wouldn’t disclose it casually.”
Dark put down the newspaper, took a sip of goat milk, then summoned the vampire noble to teach her how to use utensils.
The vampire noble, tasting goat milk and bread for the first time, waved her knife and fork excitedly, but she clearly showed more interest in the small dish of tomato sauce.
After breakfast, before the class started, Dark went to the infirmary to find Professor Carian.
Today, Professor Carian was unusually diligent.
When Dark knocked and entered, she was still preparing potions.
Dark glanced and recognized the familiar “Green Potion.”
He didn’t ask further, waiting until Professor Carian temporarily paused, then summoned Lion Beast to inquire if there was a cure for its “madness.”
