Chapter 344 – Meeting
Gregor placed great importance on Dorothy’s future. Initially, he had brought her to Igewent so she could attend middle school, and after graduation, she would be able to find better work. However, he never expected that through her own “efforts,” she would have the opportunity to enter one of the best universities in the country. This made Gregor very happy.
“There’s no need for you to say that, Gregor. Of course, I will cherish this opportunity. Now, getting into Saint Crown University is my goal.”
Dorothy continued to respond, while inwardly she thought that she was essentially already a student at Crown University. Although she hadn’t attended any classes there, she had learned quite a bit from its library.
“By the way, where are you staying now, Dorothy? Is it far from here? I want to see what the surroundings are like. If it doesn’t work out, I can help you find a better place.”
Almost finished with the steak on her plate, Gregor wiped his mouth with a napkin as he spoke, and Dorothy responded directly.
“There’s no need for that. I forgot to tell you in my letter that I’m currently staying in the girls’ dormitory at the school. The local middle school even allows girls to live on campus, so I stay there all the time. You probably wouldn’t find it very convenient to visit a place like that.”
Dorothy gave her prepared response. After hearing this, Gregor couldn’t help but pause. After imagining an environment filled with girls around Dorothy’s age, he decided not to go and see it.
Afterwards, Dorothy and Gregor continued chatting as they finished their meal. After Gregor paid the bill, the two went out shopping. During this time, Gregor noticed that Dorothy’s clothes were quite simple and assumed she saved money to buy cheaper clothes. So, he went to a clothing store and bought some more colorful outfits for her.
Dorothy could only laugh dryly and accept the clothes. She thought to herself that the outfit she was wearing was actually bought from the same shop where she had custom-made clothes for Adèle. It looked simple because of the design style, but it was actually very expensive, possibly enough to cover her rent for two or three months.
After buying the items, the sky was already late. After giving Dorothy a month’s living expenses, Gregor said goodbye and left. They weren’t in a smaller city like Igewent, and if their work locations in Tivyán were far apart, it wouldn’t be convenient to live together.
“Take care, remember not to spend too much! Remember to write me a letter or send a telegram if anything happens!”
Standing by the roadside, Gregor waved to the departing taxi horse carriage and shouted, while Dorothy inside the carriage waved back. Seeing the carriage disappear at the end of the street, Gregor sighed deeply, then took out a cigarette from his pocket, lit it with a flame, and put it to his lips, exhaling a cloud of white smoke after a few puffs.
“Huh… After coming here for so long, I finally met Dorothy… Now it’s time to gather my spirits and start working properly.”
As he spoke, Gregor turned around and walked down the other end of the street, smoking.
…
As the sun set and the moon rose, night turned to day.
Soon, the day passed quickly. The next day after meeting Dorothy, Gregor finally started his first day at the Anonymity Headquarters.
Riding in a special carriage, Gregor arrived at the underground parking lot of the Anonymity Headquarters. After getting off the carriage, he straightened his brown-black suit and glanced at the spacious and dim underground parking lot. He quickly entered the office area through a small door.
After leaving the security corridor illuminated by Radiance Lamps, passing through the hall where the tall Mirror Moon Goddess Statue stood, amidst countless unfamiliar faces, Gregor crossed several more Radiance Lamp checkpoints. Finally, he stopped at a door near a long corridor. He checked his watch to confirm he wasn’t late before opening the door and walking in.
Behind the door was a simply decorated room. A few gas lamps hanging from the ceiling brightly illuminated the small space. There were two doors in the room, a blackboard on one wall, and a large square table. At this moment, five people—four men and one woman—were seated around the table.
These five people had different appearances and ages. The younger ones looked about Gregor’s age, while the older ones appeared to be in their forties. When Gregor entered the room, they all turned to look at him. Under everyone’s gaze, Gregor closed the door and greeted them with a smile.
“Good morning, everyone. You’re all here very early.”
Gregor greeted them, but none of the five responded directly. Only the older and shorter person nodded at him. Seeing such a cold reaction, Gregor could only shrug secretly and sat down at the square table.
After sitting down, Gregor began observing the others silently, waiting patiently. After another ten minutes, the other door in the room opened, and a woman around twenty-five or twenty-six walked in.
She had short yellow hair, blue eyes, a tall figure, and a determined face. She wore a sword at her waist and stepped into the room in high boots.
Taller than most men, she wore a modified uniform similar to an officer’s attire, belonging to the Hunter Corps. She approached the square table, paused for a moment, then surveyed the people present. With an uplifting tone, she declared:
“Good morning, everyone from various regional bureaus. It’s a pleasure to meet you. From today onward, we will be colleagues working together.”
She then placed her hand on her chest and introduced herself.
“First, let me introduce myself. My name is Misha de Blanca. I am the most loyal knight of Prince Harold, personally appointed by him. Currently, I am here on His Highness’s orders to form a special investigative team within the Anonymity Headquarters to address internal issues. From now on, I will be your direct superior. In the coming period, we will work together to eliminate the impurities within the headquarters.”
Misha said this, and the reactions of those below varied. Gregor understood in his heart. He had heard that Prince Harold would send his most trusted person to lead them in finding the insider, but he didn’t expect it to be his knight directly.
