Chapter 346: Transmission
Gregor felt a bit troubled in his heart, realizing that given the current situation, the content of today’s meeting was bound to be leaked, and because of the insider, confessing to the headquarters could very likely expose him. Therefore, there was only one course of action left.
“It seems I need to inform the detective in advance.”
With this thought, Gregor was already considering how to convey the message to Akka after the meeting concluded.
—
In the northern outskirts of Tivyán, outside the eastern gate of King Campus.
Under an overcast sky, a light breeze blew, scattering the chilly, misty rain. Along the desolate streets of Green Shade Town, within number 17, a large stone fireplace crackled as charcoal burned, the warmth from the flames enveloping the surroundings. Dorothy, dressed in casual home attire, sat beside the fireplace, tending to the burning heap with a pair of fire tongs. A slightly pensive expression crossed her face, indicating she was deep in thought.
“After waiting for several months, the promised reward has finally arrived… Heh, if they weren’t trying to extract information about Eight Pinnacle from me, would they have dragged this on indefinitely?”
With a cold scoff, Dorothy murmured to herself, just having heard Gregor’s prayer. She was already aware of the establishment of the An Yin Bureau’s special investigation team and Misha’s intention to contact her.
“That being said, the secret investigation team of the An Yin Bureau is indeed a lonely establishment. On the first day of the meeting, the contents were leaked by insiders to such an extent, and it was simultaneously revealed to two sides. How do they expect to deal with the insiders like this… it’s impossible…”
Dorothy continued to mutter, feeling that the An Yin Bureau was indeed being tightly controlled by Eight Pinnacle Nest. As a covert intelligence agency of a great nation, it was astonishing to think that they were so thoroughly grasped by a society.
“The key factor seems to be that high-ranking insider, who is the first to leak much of the highly confidential information from the An Yin Bureau. I wonder what position they hold to pull off such a massive amount of vital intelligence without a hitch. The issue is that this person’s performance is quite unstable; sometimes information can be obtained rapidly, while at other times it takes a long wait, appearing very inconsistent.”
Dorothy thought further about the unstable insider intelligence regarding Eight Pinnacle. The best example she knew was Davik.
When the An Yin Bureau captured Davik, the Wolf bl**d Association contacted Eight Pinnacle Nest to buy information about him. Yet, after several days in the hospital, that insider within the An Yin Bureau couldn’t even locate Davik. It was only after Dorothy brought Davik to the headquarters that the insider learned where he was and informed the Wolf bl**d Association, even needing to enlist someone like Gregor, who had not formally entered the headquarters, to gather intel. Given the performance of that insider, this was indeed unacceptable.
Thus, Dorothy concluded that the high-ranking insider placed within the An Yin Bureau by Eight Pinnacle was powerful in gathering many top-secret rumors, yet at the same time, quite unstable. Due to numerous reasons, many key pieces of information could not be obtained in a timely manner, which is why individuals like Adeline had to infiltrate as backups. After all, the words of the werewolf Smith confirmed this suspicion.
“Putting the high-ranking insider on hold for now, the key issue is that the investigation team leader, Misha, wants to meet Detective Ed to obtain information about Eight Pinnacle. If I want to secure that reward, I need to arrange for Ed to meet her…”
“But if I agree to a meeting with her, that intelligence will surely travel through the other insiders in the investigation team to Eight Pinnacle. They are aware that the previous incident at Crown University Ruins was caused by Detective Ed, and they likely won’t let it go easily.”
Thinking this, Dorothy’s mind leaned towards sending Ed to meet Misha. Negotiating the reward was one thing; primarily, she could also inquire about the ‘Shadow’ Pure Color Deity and the Holy Emblem. Since Misha was a trusted confidant of the Bureau Chief, she might know something. With such a large Mirror Moon Statue standing in the headquarters, it wouldn’t make sense for the higher-ups to be unaware of its secrets.
Dorothy planned to have Ed meet with Misha but worried about any schemes from Eight Pinnacle should they catch wind of it along the way.
“An insider within the higher-ups who seems all-powerful, and several insiders within an investigation team established to catch insiders… Is the An Yin Bureau running a distillery? If it weren’t for my arrangement of an insider, I shudder to think how these guys would manage.”
Dorothy grumbled inwardly, realizing that if not for the triple identity she arranged for Gregor, she could have easily fallen into Eight Pinnacle’s trap. Nevertheless, despite her complaints, she pondered solutions to the current issues at hand.
“If only… I could root out the other insiders in the investigation team apart from Gregor, perhaps the situation would improve.”
Dorothy muttered, then started to think about ways to expose the traitors in the investigation team. After a long while of contemplation, a glimmer of an idea sparked in her mind.
“Perhaps… I can try this… not sure if it will work…”
Murmuring to herself, Dorothy began to put her thoughts into action. She closed her eyes and started to pray to Akka.
“Great Akka, please convey my words to Mr. Meyshos. I have received his intelligence, which is critical; the detective expresses his gratitude.
“Given Mr. Meyshos’ current special identity, to avoid raising suspicion from Eight Pinnacle, please ensure that he conveys the contents of this meeting accurately to them. If the higher-ups of Eight Pinnacle receive news of other insiders within the investigation group but not Mr. Meyshos’, they will surely feel suspicious. He still needs to play his various roles well.
“Lastly, I have a small, cautious request for Mr. Meyshos. Please relay the information of all members of the investigation team to me through the manner of a prayer. I need to know their appearances, names, and extraordinary capabilities. When you pray, just keep their images in mind; remember, their appearances must be conveyed clearly.”
Once her inner prayers were completed, Dorothy opened her eyes and sent the content of her prayer through the information channel directly to Gregor. Then she continued to tend to the burning charcoal in the fireplace, placing the tongs to the side. After a big stretch, she stood up from her bench and returned to the nearby sofa.
Lying back on the sofa, Dorothy watched the flames dancing within the fireplace, feeling the warmth envelop her as she quietly awaited Gregor’s response.
