Chapter 442: Their Marriage Symbol
Lin Nuo listened, “Are you kidding me? What are you saying about aiding spiritual luck? I, Lin, don’t feel a thing. Aiding spiritual luck with your sneaky tricks?”
“And you’re mixing personal interests into it. Can you talk properly? Stop mentioning justice; your whole family is into chivalry, right?”
Lin Nuo retorted:
“I see her sneaking around, but I sure don’t see any gratitude coming my way.”
“The problem is this: my sister knows you are kind-hearted, indifferent to fame, and don’t seek rewards. If she wants to tell you openly, she’d naturally get rejected.”
“Sorry, I accept everyone.”
“…”
This left Xi Qing baffled. This guy is really something; most cultivators don’t talk like this.
Conversations with him don’t even feel like you’re talking to a young, passionate cultivator. Shouldn’t he be more humble?
But he just drops a line like “I accept everyone.”
Talking to him is tough.
Xi Qing continued respectfully:
“Master Lin, you’re being too humble.”
“How am I being humble? I’m just speaking the truth; if you have this good spiritual symbol, just give it to me, and I’ll be sure. Anything else, hand it over for my own use.”
“Sorry, Master Lin, this spirit symbol is precious; my sister only agreed to part with it after much deliberation.”
“If it’s that precious, why can’t I feel any effects?” Lin Nuo countered.
Lin Nuo was being aggressive, questioning like an interrogator, determined to get to the bottom of it.
Xi Lan felt intimidated and unable to respond; as a little fairy just come down the mountain, facing Lin Nuo’s intense questioning was beyond her.
However, her sister Xi Qing was well-versed in the ways of the world and had dealt with many types of people. Even though Lin Nuo’s thought processes were bizarre, she still tried to negotiate with him.
Xi Qing replied amicably:
“Master Lin, the effects of the spirit symbol won’t be immediate. It needs to work gradually, assisting you in fine-tuning your spiritual luck without you realizing it. Besides, if you fear she’ll harm you, may I ask, are you feeling unwell at the moment?”
“I’m feeling plenty unwell: headache, sore limbs, tight nerves, a whole list of issues.”
Lin Nuo acted like an attention seeker, complaining about nonexistent problems just to make a fuss.
He definitely had no good impression of this fairy, so accusing her was just for a laugh.
With nothing else to do, he figured he might as well find some amusement.
Now, the bizarre thing was that this symbol had no side effects, of course, neither did it have any positive effects.
“If the spirit symbol is causing discomfort, I apologize deeply, Master Lin. If you don’t mind, I could try to assist in healing you.”
“No need, I can adjust myself. Now, could you please take the symbol out of me, and we’ll call it even.”
“Sorry… Master… the spirit symbol has embedded itself; it’s like medicine infused into the body, very hard to remove.”
At this point, Xi Lan looked rather apologetic, noting the symbol had already entered the body, and taking it out before it succeeded would mean a failure on her part, which she definitely wouldn’t do.
Lin Nuo pondered that arguing with them wasn’t doing any good; he thought there might be some hidden danger but currently felt no discomfort, so he needed to check himself out quickly. The spiritual items in his house could help, and he could find out the problem before holding them accountable.
Dying on the immortal mountain just to plead his case couldn’t hurt, plus having some unsavory media hype about how immortals harm mortals wouldn’t do his reputation any favors.
Engaging with them now felt like a waste of time; better to withdraw.
Lin Nuo said with all seriousness:
“Alright, enough of this talk. I can’t be sure if this is indeed the spirit symbol as you say. However, considering you’re immortals and have ties with the Xuanyun Sect’s grandmasters, I won’t pursue it further for now.”
“Apologies for troubling you, I am truly sorry…”
Xi Lan bowed repeatedly in apology, realizing they were in the wrong and could only keep apologizing.
Lin Nuo knew where Xi Qing’s immortal mountain was; he quickly headed back to check his own condition and decided to leave.
This left Xi Qing and Xi Lan behind, and Xi Qing asked:
“Hey, is this the target person you found?”
Xi Lan was vague in her answer, whispering:
“If the marriage symbol worked, he must be the one. But in my previous tasks, I only dealt with ordinary folks, not cultivators. Master Yue did tell me they were all commoners, so I’m suspicious.”
“Your suspicion doesn’t matter now; the marriage symbol has embedded itself in him, so he’s definitely the one. How many more do you have on your task list?”
“Just one last couple left.”
“Last couple? Then just go match him with his love interest,” Xi Qing said.
Xi Lan nodded:
“Yeah, but all my previous task locations were fixed. He seems to not live in this small town, so I have no idea where to find him, let alone determine his marriage path and match them.”
To that, Xi Qing responded:
“His name is Lin Nuo; he’s a disciple of the Xuanyun Sect, residing on Tianling Mountain. As for the marriage, I’ve casually heard that he likes the second martial sister of the sect, named Qin Shili. But she’s been out of reach, so now he must be working hard, achieving great deeds, gaining fame, but still hasn’t won her heart.”
“So, his destined match is with his second martial sister?” Xi Lan speculated.
“Very likely. Qin Shili is an exceptionally talented young disciple of the Xuanyun Sect, so her standards are surely high. Him striving to excel indicates this bond isn’t broken yet; you can definitely try to matchmake.”
“But the Xuanyun Sect…”
“I can assist you; after all, I have some connections with the grandmasters of the Xuanyun Sect. Perhaps I can help you get in there.”
“Alright, thank you, sister!” Xi Lan quickly expressed her gratitude.
“I can’t just watch you fail. In any case, you should find ways to increase Qin Shili’s fondness for Lin Nuo and create opportunities to match them up. Right now, Lin Nuo has strong feelings for Qin Shili, but she seems indifferent, making this task rather challenging.”
“But what if it’s not Qin Shili?” Xi Lan asked.
Xi Qing replied:
“You are Yue Lao’s disciple, so you know how to judge. I’m just providing information. Do your best, and show Yue Lao what you’re capable of.”
“Alright, I’ll observe whether he has a connection with Qin Shili,” Xi Lan said.
…
Tianling Mountain, Xuanyun Sect.
A silver-haired girl stood at the cliff’s edge, gazing into the distant mountain scenery, the gentle mountain breeze lifting her silver hair.
Today, Lin Nuo hasn’t returned yet. She was used to stopping by the cliff for a while to take in the views and wait for him.
“Shi Li.”
At that moment, a graceful and elegant girl approached and greeted Qin Shili.
“Sister.”
Qin Shili nodded slightly in return.
“You’ve been coming here quite often lately.”
“Were you going to notice me if I didn’t come?”
Qin Shili retorted.
“He hasn’t returned today; you should head back.”
“I’m just admiring the mountain view,” Liu Shuqin replied leisurely.
“Is that so?” Qin Shili shot her a cold smile.
