Chapter 45: Yake, What Do You Think?
“Alright, alright, stop making that face! I couldn’t help myself! You looked so cozy sleeping that I just had to pull a little prank on you. Come on, you’re a grown man, don’t hold it against me!”
It had been an hour since Yake woke up, and he still seemed mad at the Little Princess for that morning’s prank. No matter what she said, he was ignoring her completely.
“Hmph!”
Yake turned his head away, just like before, acting as though he was a wronged little wife.
“Sorry to keep you waiting! Here’s a hearty breakfast prepared by the City Lord for you two.”
Just as Aierjisi was wondering how to make Yake respond to her, the Maid opened the door and wheeled in a cart.
“Wow~! It smells amazing! What delicious things has the City Lord prepared for us?”
With the delicious aroma wafting through the air, Aierjisi couldn’t help but swallow. Yake, sitting across from her, was equally drawn to the mouth-watering scent, forgetting all about the Little Princess’s prank.
“Rest assured! The City Lord has prepared only the tastiest delicacies for you.”
As she spoke, the Maid lifted the lid off the plates, unveiling a feast of appetizing dishes that filled the air with delightful aromas.
“Wow! What are these? I’ve never seen anything like this before. Yake, you should know, right?”
“Don’t ask me! How could a commoner like me ever have a chance to see food meant for high society? But there’s one thing I *am* sure of.”
“What’s that?”
“These dishes are definitely going to be delicious!”
With that, Yake grabbed a piece of meat from who-knows-what-animal and took a big bite.
“Ah! You jerk, Yake! I was eyeing that piece of meat first!”
“Hmph! As the wise say, the early bird gets the worm! Blame your own slow hands! Besides, I haven’t forgiven you for that prank yet!”
“Ugh! Fine! Then I’ll just take this!”
Aierjisi snatched a fork and knife to claim a mysterious meat patty that she began to enjoy leisurely.
Meanwhile, the Maid watched expressionlessly as Yake and Aierjisi competed over the remaining breakfast. Perhaps even she didn’t notice the slight curl of her lips as she watched this master-servant duo.
“Ah, this is so delicious! Thank you for bringing us such a treat! Please give my thanks to the City Lord.”
After finishing this splendid breakfast, Aierjisi patted her little belly. The City Lord really was considerate; the breakfast was not only delicious but also made with top-notch ingredients, restoring her magic power significantly.
“Alright. But I suggest you personally thank the City Lord, Miss Aierjisi.”
“Eh? But the City Lord is very busy, and I don’t want to disturb him just to say something nice!”
“You don’t need to worry about that, Miss Aierjisi. In fact, the City Lord specifically instructed me to have you and Mr. Yake meet him after your meal.”
The Maid said this while cleaning up the dishes and leftover bones.
“Ah? The City Lord wants to see me? Uh oh, could it be that we caused trouble staying at the City Lord’s Mansion last night?”
Upon hearing that the City Lord wanted to meet her, Aierjisi immediately thought about last night when she and Yake stayed at the City Lord’s Mansion.
【You two brats better not get too cocky with me. I only took care of you a little, and now you’re bold enough to stay in the City Lord’s Mansion, huh? This breakfast is the last thing I’m doing for you; once you’re done, get the hell out of Bield City!】
She even started imagining the City Lord glaring at her and Yake, yelling for them to get out of the city.
“That shouldn’t be the case. The City Lord isn’t that petty, right?”
Although Yake had only met the City Lord a few times, he could tell that the City Lord wasn’t the type to hold a grudge over them staying in his mansion.
“Don’t judge a book by its cover! The City Lord might have things he can’t tolerate, and we might have touched on one of his sore spots.”
“Anyway, we should go see for ourselves. If we don’t meet him, we won’t know what his intentions are.”
“Yeah, you’re right. Maid, could you please take us to see the City Lord?”
“Of course. That was actually instructed by the City Lord for me anyway. However, please wait a moment while I take these dishes and leftover garbage to the other Maids before I can guide you.”
“OKOK, go ahead! We’ll wait right here for you.”
Aierjisi waved the Maid off and lay back on the bed.
“Yake, what do you make of this?”
“Ah? What do you mean, ‘what do I make of it’? What are you asking about?”
Suddenly being asked such a vague question, Yake looked at her, bewildered.
“I mean the City Lord wanting to talk with us. What do you think he’ll discuss?”
“Um… let me think. It’s probably about that guy who wrecked the Inn last night. Our Inn was the only one attacked, and that guy chased us even after knowing we were hiding in the woods. If the City Lord finds out that guy was targeting us, he might forcibly kick us out to minimize the damage to the city.”
Yake pondered for a moment, using his dwindling brain cells to voice his thoughts.
“Yeah, that’s not impossible. The City Lord has treated us well, but if we’re a source of trouble for him, it would be better for us to leave sooner rather than later.”
Considering what Yake said, Aierjisi thought about it. If the City Lord really felt that way, then she and Yake would be hot potatoes in his eyes, and he’d probably want to get rid of them as soon as possible.
“I’m sorry to keep you waiting. I’m ready to take you to see the City Lord now; please follow me.”
Just then, the Maid returned and led Aierjisi and Yake toward the City Lord’s room.
“This is the City Lord’s room; I won’t be entering. Please, you two go on in.”
“Oh, thank you for your trouble. Even though we haven’t known each other long, you’re a pretty good person. I’ll suggest to the City Lord that he increases your pay.”
Waving goodbye to the departing Maid, Aierjisi took a deep breath, opened the door, and stepped inside.
