47. Carla, Carla, Oh, Carla. (1)
Pasta is undoubtedly a dish made by the gods.
Carla thought this as she twirled the pasta with her fork and slurped it into her mouth. Or should she be thankful that it wasn’t her right arm that was lost but her left?
“Carla, it’s spilling.”
“Never mind.”
Although the napkin was offered, wouldn’t it have been better if it had been unfolded?
Receiving the neatly folded napkin, unfolding it with one hand wasn’t easy at all.
Though she had gotten somewhat used to living with one arm, certain tasks still remained difficult.
Carla carelessly flapped the napkin out in front of her, covering the front of her dress. Meanwhile, she glanced over at Regina.
Regina’s eyes were directed towards Ivan.
Even after what had just happened, Regina couldn’t take her eyes off Ivan, finding something incomprehensible to Carla so appealing.
“…When are you two finally going to get together?”
At the sudden question from Carla, Ivan choked on the pasta he was eating and started coughing, while Regina stiffened as if frozen, then her face flushed red.
“That…that’s not true. Carla, this isn’t something we should say aloud. How could someone like me, a commoner, claim Regina? Regina is, after all, a noble. A noble.”
“No, Ivan. Don’t say that. Being a noble doesn’t mean much these days—it’s just a title. Being a commoner isn’t an obstacle… probably. And…, well, not yet…”
Both Ivan and Regina deny the same thing, but for different reasons somehow.
Carla watched them and snorted with derision. It was obvious anyway, just a matter of time.
“If you’re done eating, let’s clear the dishes and go. We still have our afternoon classes.”
Carla placed her fork on the plate and stood up. Grabbing her jacket that was carelessly tossed on the bed, she extended it towards Ivan.
“Help me put it on.”
“Alright, just a moment.”
“Carla, let me help.”
As Ivan was about to set down his plate, Regina snatched the jacket from Carla, determined to assist.
Unfolding it dramatically, it was clear she wanted to tend to Carla—but for some reason, Carla didn’t appreciate it.
It felt somewhat difficult to express why, so Carla let Regina help her put the jacket on.
“We can’t afford to be late, so let’s hurry.”
“Yeah, okay, let’s go.”
While exiting the dormitory, the three inadvertently met others heading to the lecture hall.
That oily blond hair slicked to one side, that despicable smirk—it was Lucas, someone Carla found impossible to like.
“Seems like you’re diligently attending every lecture. Though it probably won’t do you much good.”
Carla didn’t bother responding to Lucas’s jeer. She didn’t feel the need to, but someone else stepped in front of her instead.
“If you’re planning to pick a fight with Carla again, I’ll handle it. Lucas, I’ll beat you.”
“Tch, don’t make me laugh. Commoner, I’m not here to fight Carla… And Carla, be warned. If it turns out that you’re not a virgin… the Cascata family won’t let it slide just because you’re with some commoner.”
“Just try to do something about it. Our family is fine as long as father is around. You’re ridiculous, you know.”
Carla smirked tauntingly while glaring at Lucas. She was aware that she shouldn’t escalate things, but where would this go if left unchecked?
Ivan frowned at the sight of Lucas.
Carla was, after all, Ivan’s friend—someone he had remembered as a dear friend over the last ten years.
Insulting Carla was like insulting Ivan.
“Enough, Lucas. Shall we settle this here with a little brawl like Carla suggested?”
“I’ll pass. There’s greater amusement coming my way.”
As expected—no, as they said, Lucas’s jibes always managed to rile up Ivan’s mood.
Lucas confirmed this, and with that confirmation, the words from the ruffians who visited his quarters echoed stronger.
‘At first, I thought they were crazy…’
“I’ve come to make you an offer, young master. It shouldn’t be anything unpleasant to you.”
She, with white hair and red eyes—an uncommon sight in the empire—spoke softly to Lucas.
Although the room atmosphere was unpleasant, the tension lessened as this mysterious beauty approached him seductively, radiating an alluring aura.
“What…kind of offer do you mean?”
“Ah, my name is Venere. I’m the one who severed Carla Della Cascata’s arm.”
Lucas was speechless—how had Carla Della Cascata’s name appeared here?
As much as Lucas hated to admit it, Carla was stronger than him—much stronger. If this woman had indeed severed Carla’s arm, Lucas doubted he could survive if she were his enemy.
“Don’t worry, young master. I said I was here to propose something. Is it because of that guy Mercurio back there, or is there something else?”
Lucas slowly shook his head. Yes, he was Shaiskeil’s successor, so if someone came to him and also knew the one who severed Carla’s arm—then it was clear they were enemies of the Cascata family.
“I’ll hear your offer.”
The negotiating advantage is in my hands—Lucas believed this. And as his shaking heart calmed, a sense of arrogance disguised as calmness began to emerge.
“Yes, yes…Master, that’s a very good attitude. It’s a great proposal for you…”
Venere slowly climbed onto Lucas’s knees and wrapped her arms around his neck. Taking this scandalous pose, she whispered softly into his ear.
“In about two weeks…there’s an Exchange Battle, isn’t there?”
“Is there?”
“…”
Venere was caught off guard by an answer indicating ignorance from someone not even from the Academy.
Moreover, he responded without a hint of embarrassment, which only added to her confusion.
“Well, anyway…an Exchange Battle will take place. You’ll find out when you check the academic schedule.”
“Alright, so?”
As Lucas spoke, his hand rested on the waist of the beauty sitting on his knees. The sensual feeling of her skin under his slow touch was mesmerizing.
“Then, crush Carla. Individual battles, team battles, and Exploration Battles. We’ll help arrange a match for you against Carla in the individual battle. So, crush her.”
“Will Carla definitely participate despite being disabled?”
“…”
Venere fell speechless again. No matter what, that person was supposed to become his bride; should he really be speaking to her so disrespectfully?
“She’ll definitely show up. That girl’s competitive, isn’t she?”
“That’s true. And with her arm like that, it’s obvious I’ll win.”
“That’s correct… As for the team battle, it’s hard for us to interfere, but we’ll help you in the Exploration Battle.”
“How will you assist me?”
“That’s for me to know now. But in the Exploration Battle, we’ll leave just you and Carla. Take that opportunity to make her your woman. Virgins are important in the empire, don’t you think?”
Hearing that, Lucas frowned.
Hadn’t Carla already flipped Lucas’ stomach with a similar statement?
“…Did you really hear that she gave herself to a commoner?”
“Why would I believe that? It’s obvious she’s trying to provoke you. Besides, if she’s not a virgin, you can have the Cascata family protest, or if she is, you’ll be her first man.”
Well, it wasn’t a wrong argument.
Lucas thought about it, but he couldn’t find any flaws in Venere’s words.
“What exactly do you want from me?”
Lucas glared at Venere.
“So, what benefits do you get from this? What do you seek when I take over the Cascata family?”
“…”
Venere was speechless once again.
Where this self-confidence came from—currently, with Enrico Della Cascata, one of the most powerful mages, the Cascata family was at its prime. And this fool thought he could take it over?
Still, the conversation had to go on.
Venere smiled sweetly and replied gently.
“Young master, we merely want to restore order. The Cascata family has monopolized power for too long, hasn’t it? If you give us a little of that power, it’s beneficial for us, and it’s also a great opportunity for you. It’s a win-win situation, isn’t it?”
Lucas confirmed her plan.
They clearly anticipated that Lucas would acquire the Cascata family upon marrying Carla and were just trying to establish early connections.
“Alright. If you wish to join as my concubine, you can say so now.”
Lucas’s hand began sliding downwards. Venere, feeling like insects were crawling over her skin, twisted her body and descended from his knee.
“Well, let’s consider the deal final. Naturally, this must not be revealed to anyone. If it is, the proposal is immediately revoked.”
“Understood.”
Though Lucas gave an easy and confident answer, Venere remained uneasy. Could this fool really succeed?
Even after Venere and Mercurio disappeared, Lucas was still smiling smugly, thinking he was simply trying to establish connections with a future power.

‘Though we shouldn’t trust these people completely, they do offer assistance, and it’s best to let them try. We’ll know more in a few days anyway.’
Lucas thought that as he headed towards the lecture hall. He still needed to secure his Academy diploma, after all.
