Chapter 363: Wounded Person
“As we were treating his injuries, he lost consciousness again due to the pain. Concerned by what he had said earlier, Sister Vania at our medical point decided to let us bring him here for you all to see if you recognize him after we had done a simple treatment of his wounds.”
The man in the white coat spoke to the guard in front of him. After hearing his words, the guards exchanged glances, and after a brief exchange of looks, they gripped their weapons tightly and prepared for defense. The captain of the guards stepped forward and spoke.
“Alright, let me see what he looks like.”
At the guard’s command, several men carrying a stretcher set it down. The captain moved in front of the stretcher and looked at the figure on it. Upon seeing the unconscious face, covered in bandages and bl**d, his eyes widened in shock, and he took a couple of steps back.
“Wh-what? It’s Mr. Kamino! How is this possible?”
The captain murmured in astonishment, and the guards beside him, hearing this, were equally shocked.
“Mr. Kamino? Wasn’t he supposed to be personally protecting Princess? How could he be here?” The guards surrounding murmured, then they stepped forward to look at the man lying unconscious on the stretcher, each face showing disbelief.
“It really is Mr. Kamino? If Mr. Kamino is here, then what about the one beside Princess?”
One guard spoke, and as soon as he said that, the atmosphere on the scene became tense. The guard captain turned to Jack, the man in the white coat, and asked.
“May I ask how you came to treat this person?”
“A civilian nearby brought him here. According to that civilian, he saw this gentleman injured all over, yet struggling toward the square. He kindly helped him to our medical point for treatment. While he was being treated, he kept mumbling something… fake… danger… zero point danger… the royal viewing platform… things like that. Although his wounds have been treated simply, he has collapsed again. Sister Vania worried about what he said and asked us to bring him for you to see if you recognize him…”
Jack, the man in the white coat, explained to the guards in front of him. After hearing his words, the expressions of the guards grew increasingly grave, and for a moment, everyone fell silent, the atmosphere in the room heavy.
“Cough… cough!!”
At that moment, the man lying on the stretcher suddenly began to cough violently, struggling in pain. Seeing this, Jack immediately crouched down to check the man’s condition, then turned back to the guards with an anxious expression.
“This is bad… some of his wounds are beginning to worsen. His condition is now critical. Gentlemen, we need to take him back to the medical point for treatment immediately!”
Jack said to the guards, and the guard captain looked at the bl**d seeping from the bandages on the stretcher, furrowing his brow before speaking.
“Alright, you hurry and take him back. Remember to do your utmost to save his life. We’ll check on him later.”
“Yes, Sir!”
After a few brief words with the guards, the man in the white coat signaled to the others to lift the stretcher again and then headed off into the distance.
Watching Jack and the others leave, the guard captain took out his watch and glanced at it. Noticing that there were only about ten minutes left until midnight, he shifted his gaze to the building beside him and spoke to those near him.
“You all stay here. I’m going upstairs to handle some matters.”
Saying this, the guard captain turned and opened the door to enter Room No. 1. In the remaining ten minutes, he felt it was necessary to remind the other bodyguards and temporarily isolate Mr. Kamino upstairs.
……
On the stage in the Bishop’s Square, the final program had just concluded, and the host was back on stage, organizing the crowd below, preparing to start the final countdown to the New Year.
At this moment, on the roof of a tall building at the edge of the square, a guard noticed the performance on stage and looked at his watch. Seeing the approach of midnight, he quietly retreated from the edge of the rooftop to a corner.
In this corner’s shadow, the guard took out a rectangular box, placed it on the ground, and opened it to reveal a beautifully crafted brass rifle.
He picked up the rifle from the box, which was more like a work of art than a firearm. The entire rifle was a combination of brass and white wood; the shiny brass body showed no signs of wear, appearing as if it had never been used. The intricate carvings on the white wooden stock extended onto the brass body, with the symbol of “Lamp” embedded in the most detailed part of the intricate designs. No matter from what angle, this rifle was far from being an ordinary item.
“It’s almost time…”
The guard murmured, and the voice that came from him was that of Berlit.
Holding the exquisite rifle, Berlit stood up and looked across the entire square at the distant balcony, focusing on the poised figure behind the Duke and Princess, then thought to himself.
‘Two white chalks are about to be assassinated… With this, Barret has no way to escape. It seems tonight’s plan is going smoothly. The Night Demon is unnecessary now…’
Berlit’s thoughts concluded, and a slight smile appeared on his lips.
“It’s all your fault for diving too deep into research, Your Grace… At this point, we only wait for the scapegoat to make their appearances…”
……
At this moment, on the rooftop of another building, in a smoke-filled small attic, Sado stood in the center among many natives, pumping his fist, passionately giving an inspiring speech.
“It’s time! Fellow countrymen! Take up your weapons, and soon we will show that group of white-skinned demons what true bl**d and fear are!
“Kamino and the others will be our vanguard! They will be our example! We will closely follow their determination to bring pain to our enemies!”
Sado’s inspiring speech elicited cheers from the other natives, and at that moment atop the attic, Nephnis was perched like a cat, delicately standing on the roof, her vertical pupils fixed on the crowd below the skylight.
On the streets surrounding the square, Vania, dressed in white nun’s attire and freshly finished with her makeup for Gregor, walked down the deserted street with bl**d on her hands, murmuring silent prayers.
As cries of eagles rang out in the sky, Vania looked up ahead, just in time to see a majestic eagle diving down toward her, clutching something in its talons. It released the object above her, and Vania stretched out her hand to catch it precisely; it turned out to be a finely crafted sword with a large ruby embedded in the hilt.
Holding the fine sword, Vania twirled it gracefully in the air, then turned her gaze toward a rooftop in front of her.
“May the Lord protect us…”
Praying, Vania continued to walk forward.
