Chapter 376 – Derivative
Sitting in the carriage, Dorothy sighed as she organized the waning lineage of Mirror Moon faith in Pritt. She then instructed the male zombie puppet in the secret room to put down the shield emblem cloth and turned her gaze to the desk and bookshelves piled with texts around her.
“Barret’s research materials are truly abundant; so many valuable documents have been found already. If I could read through all of them, it would surely be a great harvest.”
With a smile, Dorothy murmured softly. After finishing her words, she continued controlling the male zombie puppet to search for more valuable information.
…
While Dorothy was controlling the puppet to flip through various documents in Barret’s secret room, Kenk was still leading his team of assassins to search for the entrance of the secret room inside Barret’s villa. Despite thoroughly searching every corner of the place, even tearing off wallpaper and prying up floorboards, turning the entire villa into a demolition site, he still found no clues.
“d*mn it! Where on earth did Barret hide his research lab!”
Standing in the foyer, Kenk looked at the chaotic scene before him, filled with rage. He and his men had searched every nook and cranny of the manor, but they still couldn’t find any leads. In his growing desperation, Kenk glanced at his watch and realized dawn was not far off. Continuing this fruitless search would only make things more dangerous.
‘There’s no other way. If we can’t find it…we’ll just have to burn this place down, creating some trouble for the black dogs…’
Kenk thought to himself, preparing to order his men to torch the villa. Suddenly, he felt a slight sting in his arm—it was the human-faced spider biting him.
“This location…”
Feeling the bite, Kenk’s brow furrowed slightly, his expression turning serious.
With a stern look, Kenk extended his hand. A vividly colored human-faced spider crawled out from his sleeve onto his palm.
Seeing the spider, which was more brightly colored than usual, Kenk paused. He placed the spider on the table in front of him and immediately knelt down on one knee, bowing his head respectfully.
“High Priest Spider Fang…”
Kenk spoke humbly to the colorful spider in front of him. The patterns on the spider twisted, emitting a hoarse, deep voice.
“Have you found Barret’s research materials?”
“No, High Priest… Due to problems with summoning souls from Jed, Barret’s soul wasn’t summoned. I lack crucial intelligence… So, I haven’t found the lab yet…”
Swallowing hard and calming his nerves, Kenk replied to the spider. Hearing his words, the spider continued calmly.
“Without information about Barret’s soul, you can’t find anything?”
“Well… Sorry, High Priest! This is my incompetence! Not finding the materials is my fault! Please punish me, High Priest!”
Hearing the spider’s response, Kenk immediately said in fear, his head lowered deeply, his body trembling uncontrollably as if facing immense pressure.
“Alright… Although you’re indeed incompetent, the blame can’t be entirely placed on you. Tonight, we were targeted, and there were many others with bigger problems. But now isn’t the time for punishment; it’s time to solve the problem…”
Speaking in a calm tone, the colorful spider continued staring at Kenk with its many eyes and spoke further.
“In any case, Barret’s data must be destroyed. Since you’ve spent so much time without finding any leads, I’ll have to do it myself…”
“Y-You!? High Priest… Is it really necessary for you to personally take action?”
Hearing the spider’s words, Kenk exclaimed in shock. The spider continued calmly.
“Of course… For this operation, we’ve exposed too much. Even the Night Demon has been used. If we don’t completely destroy Barret’s data, the consequences will be endless.”
“But… But… If you act near Tivyán, you’ll be sensed by the Archbishop of the Church District in Tivyán…”
“Don’t worry about that. The villa is far from the Church District in Tivyán. Francesco’s Tiered Vision here is already very weak. I’ll use something I’ve collected to obscure the interference from the derivatives.”
The spider said to Kenk before falling silent, lying motionless on the table. Seeing this, Kenk swallowed hard, took a deep breath, and stood up.
Kenk walked in front of the spider and took out an elegant small box from his clothes. When he opened the box, inside was a special syringe filled with dark red bl**d.
Putting the spider back into his sleeve, Kenk took out the syringe from the box and removed the cap from the needle. Then, holding the syringe, he walked up the stairs from the foyer to the second floor of the villa. After looking around, he found a subordinate rummaging through items and called out.
“George, come over here.”
“What’s the matter, sir?”
Listening to Kenk, the killer known as George approached respectfully. After examining him for a moment, Kenk spoke.
“Take off your mask.”
Following Kenk’s instructions, George removed his face mask, revealing a young and handsome face. Seeing George’s action, Kenk nodded and patted his shoulder.
“Good boy… I’ll remember this…”
As soon as he finished speaking, Kenk swiftly jabbed the syringe into George’s body and immediately injected the dark red bl**d inside. George, who had been injected with the dark bl**d, screamed in pain and stepped back two paces.
With a painful expression, George covered his freshly punctured arm and let out heart-wrenching screams. Due to the pain, he fell to the ground and started writhing. The other killers rushed over upon hearing the commotion. Some tried to help George, but Kenk stopped them.
In Kenk’s cold observation, George’s body changed while he lay on the ground, screaming. His face began to deform, his body shriveled, and his hair rapidly turned gray and fell out.
Soon after, George’s screams ceased. The hunched figure on the floor slowly stood up. Once he stood straight, what appeared before Kenk was a completely different person.
An old man with sparse, balding hair, bulging eyes, deep wrinkles, slightly sunken ears, pale skin, and a slender, frail frame—like a monstrous hunchback, he looked at the scene before him indifferently.
Facing this old man, Kenk immediately knelt down, bowed his head, and spoke respectfully.
“High Priest…”
