Chapter 50: Never Mind, I Don’t Even Know What I Wrote
“By the way, this Ice Wall is way too tough! My ultimate move hits it, and it deals no damage at all.”
Seeing the Ice Wall that no attack could harm, Ailin scratched her head in frustration. This won’t do; she had to think of a way to break through this ice and extract the power trapped inside.
Moreover, she needed to hurry; Gaia could freeze to death here at any moment.
As for why this Ice Wall was so hard, the man told them when they arrived that it was the Eternal Ice Wall. This place had been like this for at least 3,000 years! The only method to break these walls and retrieve the power inside was to raise her Frozen Qi to a level even colder than theirs. Ailin’s current Frozen Qi limit was minus 200 degrees Celsius, but this Ice Wall was at a level of minus 273 degrees!
In other words, to successfully acquire the Ice Emperor’s power inside, Ailin had to keep elevating her Frozen Qi to reach the so-called absolute zero. Only by achieving absolute zero could she shatter these Ice Walls and extract the power within.
“Sounds easy, but doing it is a whole different story.”
Staring at the Ice Wall, Ailin couldn’t help but sigh. Raising her Frozen Qi to absolute zero wasn’t going to happen easily. Her so-called limit was just minus 200 degrees, and she still had a 73.15-degree gap to absolute zero! Even her Father King couldn’t reach absolute zero; how could she possibly do it?
“If you don’t try, how would you know?”
The man dropped that line and left them there.
“Ugh, it’s so frustrating! How on earth can I reach absolute zero?”
Ailin scratched her hair in worry. Absolute zero wasn’t something you could just achieve casually; it felt utterly out of reach for her.
Of course, despite the complaints, Ailin’s body was quite honest, and she launched an attack on that Ice Wall. That was the only thing she could do. Nothing would happen if she just stood there doing nothing. Even if miracles weren’t likely to occur, at least she was putting in the effort, which was better than doing nothing at all.
Besides, with every attack on the Ice Wall, Ailin felt that she was improving. Though each enhancement was minimal, it was indeed progress. If she kept it up, she might just reach absolute zero.
“Hey, this ice block is pretty tough!”
Gaia threw his spear at the Ice Wall, and upon impact, it just ricocheted back. It seemed this Ice Wall was no joke to break.
“Gaia, what are you doing? Didn’t I tell you to wait there? Get back quickly!”
Ailin urged Gaia to return to the cozy Ice House she had prepared for him. She had finally managed to start a small fire for warmth, only for him to run outside.
“I’m fine! I was warm enough, and now I can fight alongside you!”
Gaia moved his body a bit; thanks to warming up in the Ice House, he felt much better and could fight outside for a while.
“No need for that. Didn’t he say you can only break the Eternal Ice Wall with absolute zero Frozen Qi? Regular attacks won’t do anything.”
“Um… Is there anything I can do to help? I can’t just sit around while you’re struggling here.”
“Even so, there’s nothing you can help with right now.”
Ailin didn’t need Gaia’s help. All she had to do was keep attacking the Eternal Ice Wall; Gaia wouldn’t be able to assist her in any way.
“Ah, really, is there nothing I can do?”
Gaia felt a bit downcast. He had come along with Ailin, yet he couldn’t be of any help. What was the point of being here?
“I wouldn’t say you’re completely useless. Honestly, Gaia, just being here nearby gives me strength, so you’ve helped quite a bit.”
“Really?”
“Absolutely. Look, every attack I make costs Magic Power, right? Thanks to our Contract, I can tap into your Magic Power for my attacks. The closer you are, the more power you provide. So, you really are contributing!”
Of course, this was all a fabrication. In this place, Ailin didn’t need to draw Magic Power from Gaia at all. She just wanted him to feel secure and stick around. As long as Gaia listened to her and stayed quietly in the Ice House, that was her greatest help.
“Since you say so, I’ll hang out in the Ice House then. I’m really sorry for being unable to help you.”
“It’s fine! I should apologize; there’s such powerful strength sleeping inside, but because of my own lack, I can’t retrieve it yet. So I’m really sorry you have to wait a bit longer.”
“No worries. Just don’t rush too much, Ailin. I’ll head back to the Ice House and warm up. Want to come back with me to warm up for a bit before coming out again?”
Even if Ailin was from the Ice Dragon Clan, she couldn’t withstand fighting in this environment endlessly. Gaia felt it was better to have her warm up in the Ice House with him.
“Well… now that you mention it, I do feel a bit numb from the cold. Let’s head back and warm up first.”
Ailin transformed back into the humanoid form she’d used to talk with Gaia and followed him into the Ice House to warm up.
“Wow, why does it feel so warm in here? It’s way warmer than outside!”
“Of course! The space is small, and with the fire inside, the temperature rises quickly. That’s why it feels nice and cozy.”
Normally, in a typical Ice House, living there would lead to melting ice due to the rising temperature. But here, the ice was absolute zero and wouldn’t melt from the flames.
