504.
Luna, with her arms crossed, glared sideways at the group of elves blocking her path.
Lunia flinched upon seeing the slightly tilted head and rebellious posture of Luna, which reminded her of something.
‘Now that I think about it, Lady Luna…’
Lunia recalled an incident in Luna’s world from before.
Barharun.
The city of the High Elves.
There, Lunia had taken on the role of an elf princess to navigate that world.
‘The attitude of the High Elves I encountered back then wasn’t much different from the Pureblood Society.’
Moreover, she vividly remembered how the High Elves had treated Luna at the time.
After entering Dwenno’s world, Lunia had access to materials explaining how the elves had fallen during the Era of Catastrophe.
Thus, she understood why Luna was reacting this way.
“What is the matter?”
Taking a step forward, Lunia faced the Pureblood Society members. Her distinctive red eyes gleamed coldly.
Even now, the Pureblood Society held a poor reputation within elf society. Lunia herself had never looked kindly upon this group, so her response was anything but warm.
But she also knew that many elves still clung to the ideals of pureblood supremacy, making it easy for her to guess why they had blocked her path.
“Miss Lunia El Rundah. You are the future of Seirun and a candidate for the student council president. Should you not remember that your position demands dignity at all times?”
‘Figures they’re here to spout nonsense.’
Lunia sighed in exasperation.
“More bad behavior, I see.”
“I’m well aware that I’m the student council president of Seirun. And I’ve committed no fault so far, have I?”
“The very fact that you wander down dirty alleys alone tarnishes our elven dignity.”
Lunia rolled her eyes and muttered, “Wow, what next?” under her breath as she stared up at the sky.
“How can you associate with someone of such a lowly rank?”
The elf leading the Pureblood Society frowned upon seeing Luna.
“There are rumors. They say there’s someone wandering the streets, drunk, bringing shame to our elven dignity.”
“Who exactly?”
Luna, arms crossed, responded with feigned curiosity, prompting the Pureblood Society elves to squirm.
“Isn’t it you?”
“Is it?”
Luna smirked.
“You’re a disgrace to the elves.”
“Miss Lunia El Rundah. Associating with someone like this… you should be ashamed!”
“Would the ancestors of the star clouds approve?”
Lunia’s face fell, dumbfounded.
‘They’re invoking the ancestors of the star clouds in front of the actual Star Cloud Ancestor herself!’
And not only were they invoking her, but they were insulting Luna at the same time!
Seeing Lunia’s helpless look, Luna wasn’t fazed. Instead, she wore an amused expression, as if the situation was refreshingly novel.
“Don’t you think the current Lunia would please the Ancestor of the Star Cloud more?”
With a chuckle, Luna pulled Lunia into her arms.
“Ugh?!”
Lunia’s eyes widened as her face was buried into Luna’s embrace. Luna looked down at her and winked.
Breathing deeply as she was caught in Luna’s arms, Lunia thought, feeling a warm sense of comfort.
‘Feels like being embraced by Mother.’
She felt so relaxed that she even mumbled under her breath.
‘But she’s surprisingly great.’
It felt so natural.
“What gives you the right to arbitrarily interpret the will of the Ancestors?”
“This is oddly amusing.”
Luna smirked as the elf persisted in mentioning her while contradicting her own words.
“Lunia El Rundah. By befriending the likes of Leo Flove, you’re ruining your reputation.”
But something snapped in Luna’s demeanor when she heard that name.
The playful atmosphere vanished as Lunia, still in Luna’s arms, noticed the change and appeared flustered.
“Who exactly are you talking about?”
With a step forward, Luna released Lunia and moved closer to the group.
“He’s just a thief who stole the elves’ treasures.”
“Pretending to be chosen by the Ancestors.”
“A despicable human who inflates their accomplishments for fame.”
The Pureblood Society proceeded to malign Leo without hesitation.
‘Of course, the truth doesn’t matter to such people. It’s just what they want to believe.’
Luna’s lips curved into a smirk.
She was all too familiar with this type of elf.
But familiarity didn’t mean she wasn’t annoyed.
‘Especially defaming Kyle is unacceptable.’
“Who do you even think you are to spew such nonsense…!”
Before Lunia could lunge at them, she caught Luna’s expression.
Where there had been no reaction to their insults of her, Luna’s face turned as cold as ice.
In that moment,
Luna extended her hand.
Bang!
“Gack?!”
The leading elf clutched his throat as his body floated forward, drawn to Luna.
“Gah! What—”
“What is the meaning of this?”
“How dare you attack us?”
The elves moved to cast spells, angering at the assault.
The instant they tried to unleash their magic, Luna flicked her finger.
Tick!
Whoosh!
A gentle wind blew.
“What…?”
“This… what is this?”
“Why isn’t our magic working?”
The members of the Pureblood Society wore looks of horror.
They couldn’t use the Magic of the Stars.
It wasn’t just a matter of spells failing. The star magic itself— the star magic power they needed to summon— was gone.
“You won’t be able to use the Magic of the Stars anymore.”
Luna stated it as if it were no big deal.
“How can you say such absurd things?”
The elf caught by Luna’s magical prowess shouted in rage.
“With normal magic, it’s impossible. But with the Magic of the Stars, it’s possible. Your magic is incomplete, after all.”
The star magic system in use today was passed down by Seirun.
Though its power is immense, it has a key flaw. Since this star magic in its current form is but a lesser replica created by Seirun, it can’t be considered the true original. Additionally, this replica isn’t even fully complete.
If Seirun had had more time, she might have refined it to perfection. Regrettably, the Comet Wizard had no such luxury.
“When you use magic through a spell formula, the invisible traces it leaves in your body form pathways. I disrupted those pathways.”
“It’s impossible…!”
“No, normally, it is impossible. But I can do it.”
“What?”
“Because I’m the creator of this magic.”
Luna grinned.
The other Pureblood elves shouted, unsure what was happening.
But the elf Luna held began to pale. Not all who held twisted ideologies were fools. He understood the situation unfolding in front of him.
“T-the Ancestor…”
As Luna released the spell that clouded their senses, she grinned cruelly.
“I’m not particularly merciful or kind like the stories say. If someone irritates me, I feel the need to punish them.”
With a stoic face, Luna shoved the Pureblood elf away.
“Cough!”
Lying sprawled on the ground, he hastily bowed his head.
“O-Oh great Ancestor of the Star Clouds! Please forgive my insolence!”
Seeing his fear, the other Pureblood members realized they were in grave danger.
“I didn’t create this magic so brats like you could use it. And certainly not so you could use it to divide our elven society by class.”
Luna spoke coldly.
“And most importantly, I won’t tolerate you defaming him.”
Luna turned her head.
“You’ll never be able to use star magic again.”
“Ancestor…”
Luna chuckled and flicked her finger again. Instantly, their movements froze.
“What did you do to them?”
Lunia approached Luna, concerned.
“I erased their memories of the last few moments.”
With a casual answer, Luna turned to see Lunia stunned as she glanced back.
Indeed, the Pureblood members who had previously antagonized Luna were now looking around, confused, unaware of what just happened. The crowd around them remained eerily silent, controlled by Luna’s magic.
“Truly incredible.”
“Lissinas and Dwenno might have scolded me if they knew, but they’re not here now.”
Luna offered a bitter smile.
Looking at Luna, Lunia regretfully bowed her head.
“I apologize for putting you in this situation.”
“This isn’t your fault. This kind of behavior is an elf trait, and I’m well aware of it.”
Luna shrugged indifferently.
“Well, then, our mood is sour. Let’s brighten it up, shall we?”
“Yes! Where shall we go first?”
“Spending money is the best way to lift spirits.”
*
The place Luna and Lunia headed to was the Kujura Street.
As befitting the Festival of Twilight, Kujura Street was bustling with activity and energy.
Temporary auctions were taking place everywhere along the street.
Enthused tourists, excited to find good souvenirs, actively participated in the auctions.
It wasn’t just about commerce and auctions; street performances were also in full swing.
Luna, who had once again sampled the local alcohol, walked down the street with a drink in hand when she came across a gathering of storytellers.
Among their tales, those about the Great Hero dominated.
“Alright! Who did the Ancestor of the Star Clouds, Luna, love?”
Lunia perked up at the question.
“It was the God’s Blacksmith Dwenno!”
With this revelation, Lunia laughed and glanced at Luna, whose face was turning grim.
Lunia quickly covered her mouth, realizing her mistake.
“Did you know Lord Dwenno?”
“You met him, didn’t you?”
“Yes, back in the Hero’s World.”
“Did he ask you to be his n*de model?”
“…Yes.”
“Would someone like that be someone I’d like?!”
Luna’s expression darkened further as Lunia scratched her cheek.
“So, there were no love interests among the Great Heroes?”
“Nope. There were no couples. Though some had feelings for others.”
“Really?”
Lunia’s eyes widened.
“Yes.”
“And who liked whom?”
Curious, Lunia swallowed hard.
After sipping her wine entirely, Luna grinned and revealed nonchalantly,
“Kyle loved me.”
“Huh?”
“He truly pursued me with passion. Always watching me with burning eyes, you see?”
At this tale, Lunia couldn’t help but laugh.
“Based on my meeting, he seemed rather cold.”
“Yes, but his feelings for me were real. Remember, though, this is an absolute secret. Especially from Leo.”
“Ah, yes. But why keep it from him?”
“It’s a secret.”
Luna grinned teasingly, her finger over her mouth.
Just as Lunia reluctantly nodded along, Luna grabbed passersby and declared,
“Did you know? The Hero of Beginning Kyle was in love with the Ancestor of the Star Clouds, Luna!”
Watching Luna’s completely normal but thoroughly drunken behavior, Lunia wore an increasingly grave expression.
‘It doesn’t really sound like a secret anymore, does it?’
“Now then! Audience, I’ll introduce to you a mysterious potion— the Elixir of Love!”
When the auctioneer’s announcement reached Luna’s ears, her eyes narrowed as Lunia looked at her baffled.
Anyone knowledgeable in magic would know how utterly ridiculous the idea of a love potion was.
Unsurprisingly, as the auctioneer continued despite the jeers, he tried to justify it.
“Its precise origin is unavailable, but try it once. Who knows? Love might blossom!”
Despite the obvious absurdity, this kind of item wasn’t uncommon in celebratory auctions, just to add to the festive spirit.
The love potion was housed in a beautiful bottle, the golden liquid sparkling attractively, making it valuable as a decorative piece alone. A few curious young couples joined in the bidding.
“Such curious items keep popping up.”
Lunia forced a chuckle.
“That potion.”
“Yes?”
“Feels a bit similar to some weirdo’s potion. Let’s buy it and verify.”
“Ah, yes.”
Surprisingly, Lunia participated in the bid, still looking bewildered. Meanwhile, Luna stared at the potion and chuckled.
‘Nah, probably not.’
