Chapter 389: Cruise Ship
Purite Strait, an ordinary passenger ship.
On the howling deck, after hearing Nephnis’ complaints, Dorothy raised her eyebrows slightly and then curiously spoke up.
“The Shining White Pearl… I think I’ve seen this ship in some magazines. This seems to be a cruise ship, right? Can you afford to take a cruise for your study trip?”
Dorothy addressed Nephnis, who directly responded.
“Of course we can. We are students of Saint Crown University, and our family conditions are generally quite good. For a long-distance trip, the school naturally arranges more upscale transportation methods. The ordinary passenger ship we’re currently on is just temporary.”
Nephnis said this, and Dorothy continued to respond.
“Even if the family conditions are decent… it’s not necessary to all go on a cruise, right? A cruise ship ticket alone costs twenty pounds or so. I remember the total fee for three months of study travel was only around a hundred pounds?”
Dorothy asked somewhat curiously, as cruises were clearly luxury expenses and didn’t seem like something chosen for a study trip. For regular tourism, a passenger ship would suffice.
“Even with good family conditions, there are still differences. Miss Dorothy, many of my classmates come from old nobility in Tivyán. Considering their status and family background… they are not very willing to sit on an ordinary passenger ship with commoners. They have taken great effort to make this long journey, so they paid extra to the school for the trip, each contributing several hundred pounds more. The school thus has more funds to improve our travel conditions. I’m one of those benefiting indirectly.”
Nephnis quietly told Dorothy while glancing at some classmates on the distant deck. Many of them were noble offspring, old Tivyán nobles.
“So, due to those guys’ generosity, others also benefit. As expected of the wealthy… taking a cruise for a study trip. Is this for fun or for learning?”
Listening to Nephnis, Dorothy couldn’t help but mutter, and Nephnis continued to answer.
“It can’t be said that way, Miss Dorothy. It’s rumored that the Shining White Pearl, which we will board on the 25th, will host a grand exhibition after departure. We might learn something there too.”
With a hint of anticipation, Nephnis said this, her eyes gleaming. Next to her, Dorothy couldn’t help but think inwardly with a slight twitch of her lips.
‘They, the archaeologists, hope to learn something at a jewelry exhibition…’
Dorothy inwardly complained. She could see that this study trip was mostly about having fun for many people.
‘It seems that after arriving in Barse, I’ll have to go on a cruise too. I wonder what kind of jewelry exhibition would interest Adele.’
Gazing at the turbulent sea beyond the rail, Dorothy pondered inwardly, ending her first sea voyage.
…
A few days ago, after handling all affairs, Dorothy finally embarked on her journey. Since Vania’s purpose in going to Iwig was pilgrimage, she had arranged transport through the church, making it inconvenient for Dorothy to travel with her. Thus, she chose to leave with Nephnis, following their study trip route to Iwig.
Two days after Dorothy left Tivyán by ship, she felt a slight weakening of the spiritual thread connecting her. Realizing this, Dorothy immediately confirmed her theory was correct—she could rely on distance to sever the incomplete spiritual thread attached to the bird corpse.
Although Dorothy had traveled a considerable distance in two days, under the spiritual enhancement provided by the Eight Pinnacle Nest, the incomplete spiritual thread had only weakened slightly, far from being severed. To achieve her goal, Dorothy needed to travel further.
‘This incomplete spiritual thread hasn’t been severed even with such maintenance. Clearly, the Eight Pinnacle Nest must have provided ample “Cup” spirituality. Investing so much spirituality just to retain a means to deal with me later suggests they hold me in high regard. In that case, this spiritual thread needs to be cut.’
With this thought, Dorothy became even more determined in her journey. Four days into her travels, her journey ended as her ship arrived at the port city of Farano in Farano.
After four days at sea, Dorothy finally set foot on solid ground again. Since her destination wasn’t Faraluo, she didn’t have much time to enjoy the local culture.
Spending half a day exploring the foreign port city, despite the short duration, she gained many impressions.
Dorothy noticed that although it was still late winter, Farano seemed warmer than Tivyán. The urban landscape of Farano differed greatly from Purite. Artistic decorations and sculptures were more prevalent in Farano’s streets, with various styles. Many sculptures were bolder, and the attire of the upper class walking the streets was more intricate and colorful compared to the somber tones of Tivyán. The colors of this Farano port city were more vibrant.
What delighted Dorothy was the taste of the food in this foreign city. She savored delicious dishes here, including the cheese, truffles, beef, onion soup, and many other dishes that satisfied her palate. Overall, both in variety and taste, she felt that Farano’s cuisine surpassed Purite’s.
Previously, Dorothy had studied Faraluo language at Crown University and roughly mastered pronunciation based on phonetics. Although she knew Faraluo fairly well, she had never used it practically. Now was a good opportunity to practice her speaking skills.
Relying on the strong learning ability of the Enlightenment Extraordinary Being, Dorothy began self-studying languages from other countries while at Crown University. The main reason was to exchange for more dragon language symbols.
However, Dorothy did not expect that after mastering a significant portion of Faraluo, using it for exchange yielded no new dragon language characters but rather a useless language from an unknown world with no mysterious power.
Previously, Dorothy had successfully exchanged dragon language symbols using Purite and Spiritual Seal languages, but Faraluo failed. Faced with this situation, Dorothy was initially quite puzzled. After analysis, she reached a possible conclusion.
That was because Faraluo was too similar to Purite!
Based on Dorothy’s previous conclusions, including Purite and Faraluo, the languages of all nations on the Main Continent evolved from Imperial Language. They belonged to different dialects within the same language family. Therefore, despite differences, Purite and Faraluo, separated by sea, shared many similarities.
After exchanging Purite for dragon language symbols, Dorothy had already depleted much of the content within this language family. Consequently, the overlapping parts between Purite and Faraluo could not be exchanged again, leading to insufficient content when Dorothy tried to use Faraluo, resulting in the inability to exchange for dragon language symbols.
On the other hand, since the Spiritual Seal Language of the New World was not an offshoot of Imperial Language and fundamentally differed from Purite and Farano languages, belonging to an independent language family, it had sufficient content for Dorothy to exchange dragon language.
