Chapter 524: Is That… My Junior Martial Brother?!
Alright, we’re here.
The leader of the rebels is specially confined, different from other prisoners.
This can be considered a key target, under special observation.
Generally speaking, new prison guards aren’t allowed to enter here, but right now, no one wants to bring toxic water to the Liu family, so Lin Nuo is the one delivering it.
Although Lin Nuo just became a prison guard, he moved confidently, without any hesitation typical of a rookie. He was as smooth as a seasoned pro, picking locks and unlocking them in one swift motion.
The door creaked open, revealing a middle-aged man sitting on a narrow bed. He wore a simple, even somewhat dirty prison uniform, his hair unkempt, and his limbs shackled. However, he emanated a calm demeanor, unfazed even in captivity.
Lin Nuo squinted, finding the rebel leader slightly familiar, as if he’d seen him somewhere before.
But the feeling wasn’t strong; if it were someone he met frequently, he would definitely remember.
This middle-aged man seemed like someone he might have just caught a glimpse of in a crowd, leaving only a vague impression.
After all, he’s the rebel leader; maybe he had seen him in his previous life too, but the memory was faint, hard to recall.
Lin Nuo wasn’t great at recognizing people. If he didn’t have much of a connection with someone, it would be impossible for him to recall who they were.
Not thinking too much about it, Lin Nuo observed the cell, clearly more luxurious than an ordinary one, and it was a single room. This prison still gave the rebel leader a bit of face.
But it couldn’t be said to be a favor; it was for management purposes. If he were grouped with other prisoners, they might unite and attempt a jailbreak.
Moreover, the lock and door of this cell were sturdier, and the floor was exceptionally solid—no way to dig a tunnel out.
The leader seemed indifferent to life and death, unperturbed.
Lin Nuo placed a bowl of water before the leader and said:
“Drink this. After you’re done, come with me to the interrogation room.”
“Interrogation room? What are you interrogating me for?” the man asked.
“I don’t know. I’m just following orders from above.”
Lin Nuo replied, essentially saying, “I’m just a worker, following the boss’s orders.”
“Alright.”
The man didn’t ask further; after all, this young guard was following the rules, what could he possibly know?
Feeling thirsty himself, he drank the water.
This water had a strange taste, but it was drinkable.
“Young brother, what’s up with this water?”
“Do you have a problem?” Lin Nuo countered.
“No, just felt like this water tastes a bit different from what I usually drink.”
“We’ve switched wells recently; the water source is different but clean and non-toxic, you can rest assured. We’re all drinking it.”
With that, Lin Nuo took a sip from another bowl of water to show he was fine.
“Oh, I see. I was just asking casually; don’t take it to heart, brother.”
“Well, if you’re fine, let’s head out.”
Lin Nuo said, seeing that the rebel leader had finished the water. He took the bowl back and led the leader out of the cell.
Next up, they headed to the second cell, which also held another rebel, but of a lower rank.
The man he’d just brought out was definitely the rebel leader.
Standing in front of the second cell, Lin Nuo knocked on the door and shouted like a guard:
“Water’s here, water’s here!”
Then, he took out his keys, inserted them into the lock, and skillfully opened the door.
This was Liu Shuqin’s room. She was also sitting on a narrow bed, focused and meditating, not forgetting her breathing exercises even in captivity.
Her limbs were chained as well, and these restraints were specially made for her—solid and unyielding—to prevent her from using chi to shatter them.
The outside guard interrupted her meditative practice, causing her to slowly return her energy back and take a long breath.
First, she needed to drink some water, take a break.
As the cell door opened, light streamed in, revealing a young prison guard.
He wore simple garb like the other guards, and because they stood watch over the prison for long hours, their physical conditioning had to be high. This young guard appeared quite robust.
As for looks, he was extremely handsome, exactly her type, the kind of person that made her heart race.
Every little move he made delighted her, a character sculpted entirely to her preference.
However, it took her a moment to snap back to reality.
What was this? This wasn’t just a character made to suit her; it was someone she adored!
Isn’t this my Junior Martial Brother?!
Why is he here? Why is he working as a guard?!
She felt a surge of excitement wash over her, nearly wanting to leap up and hug him.
But she restrained herself; now locked securely, her movements were limited. Moreover, being a rational person, she reasoned there must be a reason for this, and displaying excessive excitement would be highly inappropriate.
Her junior brother must have some ability, pretending to be a guard, come to save us, right?
Of course, he wouldn’t just stand by and watch her Liu family be persecuted! With righteous indignation, he could never allow such dark forces to thrive.
She had no idea what Lin Nuo’s next move would be; she only knew she couldn’t reveal her identity and needed to play along.
So, she decided to act like she was having a casual conversation with an ordinary guard.
Meanwhile, Lin Nuo was utterly shocked.
The girl before him, although dressed in plain prison garb, couldn’t hide her natural beauty.
This girl wasn’t his master sister, Liu Shuqin, was she?
Oh boy, he actually made it to Liu Shuqin’s cell?!
She really got caught? It wasn’t just a rumor?
Lin Nuo took a moment to glance at the room number outside; it was indeed the right one.
As a newly assigned guard delivering water, he didn’t know the names of the prisoners inside. He just heard the senior guards say to deliver to that specific cell number.
This room number was 520.
Honestly, a bit awkward.
Furthermore, he examined the layout of the cell; it was indeed a high-level prisoner’s room, a single cell, the walls and floor solidly constructed. Any attempt to break through would clearly cause a stir, meant to prevent Liu Shuqin from forcibly fleeing.
So, Liu Shuqin is a rebel then?
That’s unlikely. She’s probably been falsely accused, a fake rebel.
As for the previous cell, that one was definitely occupied by a true rebel—everyone called him the rebel leader. If he weren’t a real rebel, could he still be called a leader?
Lin Nuo kept his composure, not letting anything slip. Noticing that Liu Shuqin didn’t seem to have any suspicion, it was likely she hadn’t recognized him. After all, he had always excelled at disguise.
Since he had to carry out his task, he at least needed to take Liu Shuqin to the interrogation room.
Lin Nuo adopted a curt tone typical of a guard, saying coldly:
“Water’s here.”
He handed the bowl of water to Liu Shuqin, who took it but didn’t drink, merely looking up at Lin Nuo.
Lin Nuo thought to himself, Liu Shuqin probably had her doubts, worried the water might be poisoned.
“There’s no poison in it, don’t worry.”
To ease her concerns, he took the bowl from Liu Shuqin’s hands and took a quick sip himself.
“Drink up. After you finish, follow me to the interrogation room.”
Liu Shuqin hesitated for a moment, staring at the bowl.
That was the bowl her junior brother had just drunk from!
