Chapter 53: Restored Memories
Yake wandered around in this space, helping Aierjisi collect the scattered memory fragments throughout the realm of consciousness.
“What danger could possibly be in a place like this? It’s clearly Aier’s consciousness space.”
Yake picked up a golden cube, completely ignoring Aierjisi’s warnings. While picking up this fragment, his arm accidentally brushed against a blue cube nearby.
“Ow!”
In the next moment, a shadow sprang out from the blue cube, attacking Yake at a speed that was nearly invisible to the naked eye.
“Ah!”
Yake’s scream echoed through the consciousness space.
“Yake?”
Upon hearing her servant’s scream, Aierjisi quickly leaped in his direction. Chances were that this unfortunate guy accidentally triggered the defense system of the consciousness space.
“My arm! My arm!”
Yake clutched his right arm, wailing. Just a moment ago, his right arm had vanished from his body due to that attack. However, because he was currently in a state of consciousness, there was no blood, but the pain was even more intense than in the flesh. If Yake were just an ordinary bystander, he surely would have fainted from the pain.
【What was that thing? It was so fast that I didn’t have time to react before it took my right arm.】
As he screamed, Yake pondered the question. Although Aierjisi had warned him from the start that this space was dangerous and not fully under her control, this was way too ridiculous!
“Ow!”
The shadow growled at Yake, who was kneeling on the ground, charging at him as if it was ready to eliminate this intruder.
“Back off!”
Hearing Aierjisi’s voice, the shadow’s claws stopped just a centimeter from Yake’s throat.
“Ha… I knew it would end up like this.”
Looking at the shadow and Yake, Aierjisi sighed. It turns out this unfortunate guy indeed triggered the defense system.
“Aier… what exactly is going on?”
Yake grit his teeth through the pain, asking Aierjisi about the situation.
“Nothing much. I’ll explain in a moment; first, let’s reattach your arm.”
Aierjisi retrieved Yake’s arm from the shadow and roughly reattached it to his shoulder.
“Ow! Can you please be a little gentler? That really hurts! Whether pulling it off or putting it back on!”
Yake winced in pain; this feeling was truly tormenting.
“I’ll consider it next time. Just go back now; this person isn’t an enemy.”
The shadow silently nodded and returned to the blue cube.
“What was that thing? I accidentally touched it, and then that super fast shadow popped out and knocked my arm off.”
“Ah, that’s the memory’s defense system. To protect the memories inside those cubes, there’s usually a defense mechanism in place. If an outsider like you touches the memories, it triggers the defense system to attack you like just now. Got it? If I hadn’t arrived in time, you would have been reduced to a pulp by the defense system.”
Aierjisi explained the true nature of that shadow to Yake.
“Well then… I’ll be more careful next time when collecting fragments.”
“By the way, how many have you collected? Let me see.”
“Here.”
Yake showcased the memory fragments he collected in his palms to the Little Princess.
“Wow, you’ve collected this many? Not bad! You truly are a capable human, just as I thought.”
Seeing the number of memory fragments Yake had gathered, Aierjisi was genuinely surprised. She never expected he could collect so many; she didn’t get that many in her own endeavors.
“Of course! Who do you think I am? I’m Yake, your servant! Choosing me is a win-win.”
“Alright then, keep up the good work! I’m going to piece these fragments together. If I succeed, as a reward for your help, I’ll let you watch this memory! Be grateful; this is my memory, and not everyone gets a chance to see it!”
“Well, that’s something to be grateful for. I’ll continue collecting other fragments.”
Yake went on to gather fragments in the consciousness space to hand over to Aierjisi, so she could piece them together.
With their teamwork, the fragmented memories were rapidly restored at a visible pace.
“How’s it going? Has this memory been restored yet?”
Yake handed over his collected fragments to the Little Princess, casually inquiring about the progress.
“Don’t rush! Let me piece together what you’ve collected first.”
Aierjisi put the last few fragments together, and as she placed the final fragment, the cube emitted a radiant light, merging the fragments into a normal golden cube.
“Is this considered fully restored?”
Yake stared at the restored cube and asked Aierjisi.
“Yes, it should be fine now. So, according to our earlier agreement, I’ll show you this memory, be grateful—this is my memory, not just anyone gets to see it!”
Aierjisi touched the cube. Confirming this girl was her master, the cube emitted an even brighter light, engulfing both Aierjisi and Yake.
“Where is this?”
When Aierjisi opened her eyes, she and Yake were standing in an open area. Not far away, a group of people in matching uniforms was running in formation around the space.
“Aier, what exactly is this place?”
Yake looked at the surroundings; the architecture was completely different from what he was familiar with, as if he had entered another world.
“This is the scenery reappearing from my memory. I think…”
Aierjisi gazed at the strange architectural style, unsure if this was truly her memory.
“Oh no!”
The sound of a small boy falling caught their attention. Yake instinctively wanted to rush over to help him, but Aierjisi held him back.
“Don’t! This is just a re-creation of the memory. We can’t intervene in what happens here. Let’s just watch.”
“Fine.”
Yake had to give up on his impulse and, together with Aierjisi, watched what was happening in this memory.
“Guanyu, are you okay? It looks like your leg is injured; don’t kick the ball for now. Come, let’s rest over there.”
Soon, a man roughly Yake’s size rushed to the little boy’s side, helping him to a nearby chair.
