Outside the ancient battlefield.
Bai Qiulan and Sun Ruowei had already arrived.
They were all under a hundred years old, just barely eligible to enter the Genius Ancient Battlefield, right at the limit of being less than a century.
For instance, the sect master of the Grand Dao Sect had already surpassed one hundred and could no longer enter; it was just a matter of timing and fate.
“You, a cultivator at the Unity of Dao Realm, entering the Genius Ancient Battlefield? Isn’t that a bit unfair?” Sun Ruowei said, feeling a bit speechless.
Bai Qiulan, still dressed in white, stood gracefully, her striking figure caught in the breeze, making many unable to help but steal glances.
“True, I’m at the Unity of Dao, but the Eternal Genius Ranking considers various factors like aptitude, combat strength, and age. Perhaps my ranking might even be lower than yours on the Eternal Genius Ranking,” Bai Qiulan smiled lightly.
“Don’t put yourself down. I’m still light-years away from reaching Unity of Dao; we’re roughly the same age here.”
While they were chatting, a dashing young man approached.
“Junior Sister Bai, it’s been a while.”
The newcomer was an elder from the Mountain River Pagoda Sect, named Xu Mozhi, skilled in artifact forging.
“This is a jade hairpin I crafted recently; it can enhance beauty and calm the mind. I think it suits you perfectly. May I gift it to you?” Xu Mozhi said with an elegant smile.
In his hand was an exquisitely made jade hairpin, intricate with formation patterns, glowing with a powerful spiritual light, clearly consuming a great deal of Xu Mozhi’s effort.
Sun Ruowei couldn’t help but roll her eyes dramatically.
“Oh, I see, a couple of lovebirds here! I’m just a big ol’ person standing by, and he doesn’t even spare me a glance, let alone a word,” Sun Ruowei said, dripping with sarcasm.
Xu Mozhi felt a bit awkward; he was just too excited.
It had been over ten years since he last saw Bai Qiulan, and he couldn’t believe she hadn’t faded with time but instead looked even more radiant.
Who could handle that?
“My apologies, this Junior Sister Bai, I haven’t seen her in ages, and I got a little carried away.”
Sun Ruowei: ???
“Okay, okay, Xu Mozhi! What do you mean ‘this Junior Sister’? What’s that supposed to mean? Have you forgotten my name?”
Xu Mozhi…
Bai Qiulan remained calm, “Thank you, Daoist Xu, for your kindness, but we have no special bond. It’s truly inappropriate for me to accept your gift.”
“How can that be? We’ve fought side by side against monsters and demons before…”
“Please don’t insist, Daoist Xu. My heart is solely set on the Dao and nothing else. If you persist, you may only hurt yourself,” Bai Qiulan refused firmly.
Xu Mozhi’s expression dimmed.
“I don’t have any ulterior motives; this hairpin is something I poured my heart into crafting. I believe it’s a perfect match for you. Even if you feel no bond towards me, please accept it, at least for the hairpin to find the best owner.”
Bai Qiulan frowned.
“I don’t wish to speak coldly, but I must ask Daoist Xu to withdraw, to avoid compromising our friendship.”
Xu Mozhi…
“I think that hairpin would suit me quite well; how about gifting it to me?” Sun Ruowei grinned.
Xu Mozhi gave her a glance before sorrowfully walking away.
Sun Ruowei fumed, “What’s that supposed to mean? What’s with that look? He’s so… him…”
Bai Qiulan placed her hand gently on Sun Ruowei’s fluffy head.
“Behave!”
Caught off guard, Sun Ruowei jumped.
She suddenly turned around, eyes wide in disbelief, looking at Bai Qiulan.
Bai Qiulan was puzzled.
There was nothing behind her.
Unexpectedly, Sun Ruowei yanked Bai Qiulan’s hand down from her head, holding it firmly.
“Why is your hand so cold?” Sun Ruowei exclaimed.
“Cold?”
Bai Qiulan was a bit confused.
She reached out with her other hand to check, feeling nothing particularly cold.
Sun Ruowei grabbed Bai Qiulan’s other hand.
“This hand is freezing too! What’s going on? It’s practically as cold as ice. Don’t you feel it?”
“And your body? What about your body?”
Sun Ruowei’s expression turned anxious, her eyes reddening as she pulled back Bai Qiulan’s sleeves.
Bai Qiulan’s skin was exceptionally beautiful, smooth and radiant, like the finest silk.
But the more Sun Ruowei touched, the more alarmed she became.
Cold!
Chilling!
Bone-chilling cold!
Freezing to the core!
“What happened to you? Are you hiding something from me? A normal person, someone at the Unity of Dao, shouldn’t you know your body has turned this cold?”
Bai Qiulan knitted her brows.
She touched her own arms but still couldn’t feel any cold.
Is it because of the Chaos Yin Divine Body?
Though unsure of what was going on, Bai Qiulan smiled, “Don’t get so worked up; it’s just a special cultivation technique. I’ll be back to normal in no time.”
“Is that true? I’m telling you, Bai Qiulan, you can’t lie to me! We’re the best of sisters; if you mislead me, I’ll be very sad!” Sun Ruowei said.
“I’m not lying; how could I? It’s really just the effect of my cultivation technique. If I hadn’t practiced such a powerful technique, do you think I could have broken through to the Unity of Dao so quickly? It’s just a minor side effect; normalcy will return shortly.”
“Really?”
“Really!”
“But it’s still so cold! My hand feels like touching ancient ice; let me use my arm.”
Their arms touched.
Instantly, goosebumps erupted all over Sun Ruowei’s arm.
She quickly withdrew.
“The skin on your hands is thicker, so it’s bearable, but my arm is thin, and I can’t handle it.”
“Are you sure you’re fine?”
A soft smile formed on Bai Qiulan’s face.
“Really fine, don’t worry!”
“Alright, looks like I’ll need to check on you more often. If there’s a problem, we need to solve it right away!”
Bai Qiulan nodded lightly, “Rest assured!”
Her gaze turned towards the Genius Ancient Battlefield, filled with unknown emotions.
Cold…
As cold as ancient ice.
In that moment, a slight wavering feeling arose in her heart.
She had thought before, if during their yin-yang cultivation session, Lu Ye had never felt a hint of comfort.
Could he be the one taking advantage of her?
Every time, Lu Ye bore such an extreme chill…
Betraying her teacher and ancestors, could this matter even hold up?
Bai Qiulan was truly at a loss.
