Chapter 54: Yake is Done For
The upcoming battle truly turned out to be as the Little Princess had predicted—not anything to behold, just a bunch of newbies pecking at each other.
At first, Aierjisi was worried that Yake would run into that Number 4 woman before the finals, but as it turned out, he didn’t face her until the final match. That could be considered a stroke of luck, right? The other contestants posed no threat to Yake at all. Following the combat techniques taught by the Little Princess, Yake breezed through each opponent all the way to the finals.
That woman had similarly dispatched the other contestants with ease, arriving at the final prepared to face Yake.
“Hello, big sister with the spear! I can’t believe I really made it to the finals to battle you! There were several moments when I thought I’d get knocked out early!”
Yake, keeping a bit of distance, wanted to greet her as amicably as possible.
“If you had been eliminated mid-way, then you wouldn’t have earned the right to stand in front of me. But since you made it to the finals, it means you’re a worthy opponent. Just don’t let me down like those previous guys did. I can feel you’re different from them.”
“Eh? Is that so? It’s my first time being praised like this; should I be happy?”
“Happy, my foot! Is this really the time to be happy? You should focus on the battle ahead—she’s not someone you can easily defeat. Give it your all, got it?!”
This time, the Little Princess didn’t use telepathy but instead shouted directly at Yake.
“Ah. Okay, okay! I’ll fight with all I have, but if I lose, don’t hit me, alright?”
After responding to the Little Princess, Yake turned and smiled apologetically at the woman.
“Sorry about that, my little princess can be a bit headstrong. Please excuse her.”
“No worries, she’s right. You must give it your all to fight me; that’s the only way to show your respect. And I’ll do my best to crush you.”
“Alright then. I won’t hold back, I’ll fight you with all I’ve got.”
Yake unsheathed the sword he always kept at his waist. During his previous fights, the Little Princess had never allowed him to use weapons, but this time she did.
This meant this woman was an opponent he needed to use his weapon against to defeat.
“Alright, viewers, thank you for your patience! I declare the battle begins!”
The moment the announcer signaled the start of the battle, the woman vanished from in front of Yake.
【Vanish? No way. This attack is!】
Noticing the murderous intent from behind, Yake hurriedly turned, ready to block with his sword.
*Clang!*
The blade and spear clashed, producing a sharp sound.
【As expected, this guy’s got some skill.】
The woman silently rated him highly for successfully blocking her first attack. Previous contestants would have already fallen at their first strike.
【Phew. This woman’s strength is quite tricky.】
Yake had watched the woman’s matches before, having some understanding of her abilities, but experiencing it firsthand made him realize just how shallow his previous knowledge was.
【This feels a bit unfair, but I have to use body enhancement magic.】
To compete with this woman, Yake decided to apply the magic taught by Aisi and Aierjisi to enhance his body, barely allowing his reflexes and speed to keep pace with her.
“What is this? I can’t even see either of them!”
The spectators, watching the silhouettes flashing at breakneck speeds, couldn’t help but exclaim. This ultra-high-speed battle was a first for them, and they couldn’t keep up with the action unfolding.
But Aierjisi was different from the rest; she had exceptional ninja-like eyesight. She watched the intense battle between Yake and the woman clearly.
“No way, Yake’s speed still falls short compared to that woman. Although he’s managing to keep up for now, it’s only a matter of time before he’s at a disadvantage as it goes on.”
“What kind of monster is that woman? Even with Yake enhancing his speed, he still can’t keep up. Is she even human?”
Aierjisi murmured to herself. This woman’s speed was simply too fast. Could a human really achieve such velocity without body enhancement? Had humanity already evolved to this level?
While Aierjisi pondered this in the spectator area, Yake was already on the brink of exhaustion. Using body enhancement magic, he felt he could barely put up a 50/50 fight against this woman. Despite this, he hadn’t even managed to land any real hits, instead suffering quite a few wounds from her spear.
“What’s wrong? Is your speed only at this level? I finally got excited!”
Seeing Yake’s speed declining, the woman appeared somewhat dissatisfied. She had finally found an opponent who could match her in this competition, and her warrior blood had boiled with excitement. But now, with him nearly out of steam, it was such a disappointment.
“I can’t help it; my speed just can’t keep up with you.”
With that remark, Yake decided to stop moving. If her speed far surpassed his, trying to compete in speed would only put him at a disadvantage. It was time to switch strategies.
Yake stood in position, maintaining his stance and waiting for her to strike first. If she had the upper hand in speed, then her strength should correspondingly weaken. Every blow she landed only caused minor damage, which meant all he had to do was wait for a chance to counterattack.
“This is it. Yake is done for.”
Watching Yake adopt a defensive posture while waiting for a counter, Aierjisi shook her head. Given the speed of his opponent, unless Yake could perform No Thought Shadow Kill and react before the mind processed it, the woman had ample time to evade before he could strike back.
And how could that guy possibly master something like that so easily? He knows what level he’s at, doesn’t he?
