Chapter 548: You Are Free Now
With a series of violent explosions, the prison door burst open, leaving the criminals utterly confused.
“What happened?”
“Not sure, a prison guard just blew the door open.”
“Is it a trick?”
“Definitely a trick! This explosion—are they here to execute us?”
The criminals were puzzled, wondering why a guard would blow the door open out of the blue, fearing it might be their execution.
And they were too restricted to move, with shackles weighing them down.
As the explosion filled the air with thick black smoke, a figure darted through the haze.
One by one, he approached the criminals.
The criminals gritted their teeth, glaring at the young prison guard with hatred, as if he were their nemesis.
After all, they thought he was there to carry out the execution, and they were ready to fight back, bracing for a last stand.
But to their surprise, he merely channeled his inner energy and shattered the chains binding their hands and feet.
Confusion set in:
“What do you want?”
“Let’s go. You’re free now.”
The young man said nonchalantly, as if it was no big deal.
“Why? Aren’t you worried we might resist?”
Logic dictated that with their shackles broken and the chaotic, smoke-filled environment, they had the numbers to fight back.
Yet they hesitated, still uncertain.
“Not worried.”
Lin Nuo waved his hand dismissively, carelessly saying,
“Because you guys aren’t my match at all.”
In just a few words, it was a blatant provocation that ignited their anger.
How could a mere guard be so arrogant, declaring them no match for him?
They were notorious criminals, fierce tigers before prison; did this guard really have the guts to challenge so many?
But upon reflection, this young man had come alone, blown open the prison door, and quickly shattered their chains, showing impressive capability.
“Who are you?”
“You don’t need to know. Just know that your enemies are those soldiers, and I’m here to save you. Go on, resist! Otherwise, you’ll all perish here.”
Having said this, Lin Nuo left, leaving behind the freed criminals.
Among these criminals were both fierce villains and wrongfully accused figures, like the diligent former warden Zhang Ping, the great general Huang Heng who once suppressed a rebellion, the legendary archer Wu Shi, and the strategist Han Zheng, all imprisoned unjustly by absurd charges. The Liu family had come to Huan Tian City but couldn’t rescue them; Zhou Cheng had leveled accusations against them, and it was still a challenge for the Liu family to clear their names.
Now, the shackles were shattered, granting them a fleeting taste of freedom.
“General Huang, what now?”
“Since the shackles are off, we can’t just sit still. Even if we are empty-handed, we must fight our way out!”
Huang Heng commanded his fellow inmates, instilling in them the spirit of defiance despite being prisoners.
Kill, break out!
Soon, the criminals rescued by Lin Nuo were like oppressed people rising against tyranny, ready to retaliate against their captors.
The guards, the soldiers, the city lord—those were the ones who had detained them and were now considering public executions. They had to fight back.
Chaos ensued in the prison, filled with thick smoke and the rebels’ resistance. A fine mess of explosions created a chaotic battlefield, with screams echoing through the facility.
The criminals charged out, seizing the guards’ and soldiers’ weapons, even grabbing their keys. More and more inmates escaped their cells, slipping out of control.
Outside the prison, Liu Shuqin and her companions were engaged in battle against General Li Yun’s troops, the scene a total disarray—houses were damaged, and civilians ran away in fright.
Now, Luo Xiaoxue took the lead, her three spirit beasts darting around and attacking. Liu Shuqin and Liu Feng followed suit, showing their strength as the war was about to erupt.
“Fire arrows!”
Li Yun ordered the release of poisoned arrows to strike at Liu Shuqin and her team. However, fearlessly, Luo Xiaoxue faced the incoming arrows, unleashing a surge of brilliant golden light.
Boom!
A surge of power erupted, deflecting the arrows back.
They tried to capture the spirit beasts with spiritual nets, only to be undone by the little white fox, Ruo’er.
Though outnumbered, they had their tasks well assigned, with shields, support, and charges, and the three spirit beasts posed an acute threat.
Realizing something was amiss, General Li Yun saw that Liu Shuqin and her comrades outside were already struggling. Now, the inmates were streaming out, forming a pincer movement against them.
“What is happening? Why are the inmates coming out!”
“Someone broke in and blew the prison door! They’ve freed the criminals, and now they’re pouring out to resist.”
“Damn it, we fell for their trick. They’re attacking from the outside to distract us while rescuing the prisoners, creating chaos!”
Li Yun realized too late, and by the time he noticed, it was already in ruins. His once-organized troops were now thrown into disarray and could hardly respond.
They had lost, and it happened in an instant.
“General, what should we do now?”
“Fallback! Return to the City Lord’s Mansion!”
Seeing the situation turn, Li Yun decided against continuing the fight, hastily retreating to preserve their strength.
This assault on the prison had been quite successful; it was a two-pronged approach, with criminals swarming out to clash with the city soldiers, and although the scene was gruesome, they ultimately forced the enemy back.
“Dad, that’s our Liu family army!”
Liu Shuqin excitedly spotted her troops emerging, thrilled that this was their resistance; they had succeeded.
“Dad, look! Isn’t that General Huang? And former warden Zhang Ping has been rescued too!”
To Liu Shuqin’s astonishment, in addition to the Liu family army, there were familiar faces, brave generals like Huang Heng now freed along with other righteous figures.
“Ah, General Liu, Miss Liu.”
The sturdy Huang Heng emerged with his men, thrilled to see the fellow general, Liu Feng, and quickly joined him.
“It’s General Huang! It’s truly wonderful to see him escape from prison!”
Liu Feng embraced Huang Heng, rejoicing at the reunion of fallen heroes, eager to celebrate over wine until intoxication.
“So it turns out all of this was orchestrated by General Liu.”
“No, no, not at all! I was also a victim. This was the work of a young, talented brother who planned everything.”
“A young brother? Could it be the guard I saw in prison? He destroyed the prison and said we were free and needed to resist.”
“Yes, it’s him! I didn’t know he was aware of your plight and came to rescue you!”
Liu Feng chuckled, thinking to himself how incredible it was that the young man his daughter fancied had such high strategy and skill. Should he become part of the Liu family, he would surely help the Liu lineage soar to great heights.
