Chapter 418: Transmission of Dreams
On the northern shore of Conquer Sea, at Navaha.
In the southern part of Navaha, in the port area, the twisted monsters that were just attacking recklessly in the night sky suddenly vanished without a trace. The warriors of the Knight Order who had just seen their attacks take effect found themselves empty-handed as they launched their follow-up assaults. They gazed up at the dark night sky, their expressions filled with bewilderment.
“Gone… such a large creature… disappeared like that?” The captain stood on the roof of a warehouse, frowning as he looked around, trying to find where the twisted monster had gone. But no matter how hard he searched, he could not find any sign of it.
“That monster might have escaped. Our combined attack caused substantial damage to it, so it probably thought it couldn’t win and fled,” Santos, holding the Holy Mother’s holy radiance below, speculated.
Standing on another small building, Jorde responded, “No, it might not be fleeing. This creature is a ‘Shadow’ monster. It may have hidden itself using some method. It could be right around us now. We all need to be more cautious.”
Jorde said this seriously, while Santos looked somewhat incredulous.
“Hidden itself? Is that even possible? Such a large creature can hide?”
“Don’t underestimate it. To continuously create such a wide range of hypnotic effects, that fiend is already above the White Chalk tier. It wouldn’t be surprising if it could use large-scale hiding abilities. We cannot let our guard down…”
Next to Santos, the old monk Vier spoke earnestly, and Jorde nodded in agreement with his words.
“Vier is right. We cannot let our guard down. I suggest we all activate our detection abilities to find that thing!”
Jorde suggested to the three teammates in front of him, and they all nodded in agreement. Then, the four White Chalk ‘Lamp’ Extraordinary Beings began to activate their built-in detection abilities, consuming their ‘Lamp’ spirituality to scan a wide area around them for spiritual traces and extraordinary activities. Hearing about their plan, Dorothy quickly withdrew her control over the small zombie puppets nearby, allowing the puppets to return to being ordinary corpses.
As the glow in their eyes flared, their investigation of the surrounding space officially began. However, after detecting for a while, they did not sense any trace of the pseudo-moth. Finally, they all stopped their detection due to the depletion of their spirituality.
“Not sensing that creature’s trace… Is it because there are too many of its ‘Shadow’ spirits? Or has it already left?” Jorde muttered, frowning at the empty darkness around them. In reality, both scenarios were true.
At this moment, the pseudo-moth was no longer in the real dimension, but the creatures it controlled were secretly approaching the light of the four Lamps near the port.
In the darkness untouched by the light of the four Lamps, countless decayed sleepers, drained of their dream cocoons and walking like zombies, were moving through the dark alleys. They gathered from all parts of the city, heading toward the port, closing in on the four Lamps in secret.
These decayed sleepers, turned into puppets by the pseudo-moth, were connected to it in dreams. The pseudo-moth provided them with abundant ‘Shadow’ spirituality to help them hide. With the amount of spirituality they possessed, the four Lamps combined didn’t come close to matching the pseudo-moth’s reserves. Therefore, they failed to detect the stealthy approach of the decayed sleepers.
Unbeknownst to them, the decayed sleepers had already surrounded the four Lamps in the darkness. Taking advantage of the four Lamps’ spiritual detection, they approached under the protection of the pseudo-moth. From the alleys and buildings, countless decayed sleepers moved closer to Jorde and his team. Some even slowly climbed onto the roofs of warehouses, sneaking up behind the captain. Despite the knights’ acute senses, even without relying on their abilities, they noticed something amiss behind them. The captain immediately turned around, brandishing his burning sword at the approaching decayed sleepers.
Facing the sudden attack from behind, the captain hesitated not and launched an attack. The flames from his sword instantly engulfed the decayed sleepers, turning the walking corpses into charred remains with agonized screams. These frail puppets were difficult enough to defeat even for ordinary people, let alone Extraordinary Beings of the White Chalk tier.
However, as the captain burned the attacking decayed sleepers, one of those engulfed in flames suddenly underwent a transformation. This was a decayed sleeper who, until then, had not been scorched by the flames.
As the flames consumed his comrades ahead and were about to reach him, silver light suddenly erupted from his eyes. Amidst a heart-wrenching scream, his skull suddenly cracked with silver fissures. Silver light burst forth from these cracks, and then, under an invisible internal force, his entire head exploded. At the instant his skull burst open, the silver light within intensified, and a massive semi-transparent body shot out at incredible speed, rushing towards the captain, who was mere meters away. It was none other than the pseudo-moth that had previously disappeared!
Unexpectedly, the pseudo-moth emerged from the light within the exploding skull of the decayed sleeper. Its ten-meter-long form reappeared in the scene, and at such close proximity, it lunged at the captain who was still spraying flames. Forced to stop his extreme reaction to dodge, the captain failed due to the short distance. As the pseudo-moth flew overhead, a semi-transparent tentacle successfully touched him. After piercing his body, the captain’s eyes widened.
“Mm…”
Under the intense mental confusion, the captain dropped his burning sword, clutched his head, and fell to his knees on the roof of the warehouse. He swayed unsteadily, this confusion lasting only a moment before subsiding. His wide-eyed gaze sank to the ground, as strong drowsiness urged him to sleep, but the power of the Commandments forced him to stay awake, resulting in a chaotic state of mind.
“Wyde!!”
Seeing his comrade attacked, Jorde couldn’t help but shout loudly. At this moment, he was both shocked and angry. He was furious at his comrade’s fall and amazed at how the monster suddenly appeared.
But there was no time for Jorde to dwell on these thoughts. Facing the pseudo-moth that had suddenly reappeared, he had to act immediately. After intensifying the flames on his blade, Jorde leaped into the air, aiming to strike the bizarre entity that had returned. Meanwhile, Santos below prepared his “Blessing of Flesh.”
Just then, the giant pseudo-moth’s form suddenly became transparent and thin again, vanishing once more in an instant. Jorde and Santos’ attacks missed, and Jorde, back on the rooftop, looked around in confusion.
“Where did that thing go?”
“Be careful! That fiend might have the ability to traverse dimensions, moving between some inner realm and the real world! It might be dodging our attacks by entering the inner realm!”
While Jorde was bewildered, the old monk Vier on the ground seemed to notice something and shouted a warning. Upon hearing Vier’s words, Jorde looked startled.
“What… traverse dimensions?”
Just as Jorde was stunned, inside a room along the road below, a decayed sleeper hiding within emitted a painful cry. Soon after, his eyes overflowed with silver light, and his head exploded. From the bursting light, the massive pseudo-moth emerged again, its ethereal body piercing through physical barriers and walls, rushing toward Santos and Vier on the ground. Both were caught off guard and tried to dodge, but due to the short distance, Vier did not have time to avoid and was touched by one of the pseudo-moth’s tentacles.
