The warm sunlight shone down. The cold breeze still carried the last remnants of winter. The green buds were sprouting on the branches.
It was all evidence of spring.
Spring. The new semester had just begun, and at this point, the usually peaceful Han-yul Military Academy was about to face danger.
Specifically, a Break was occurring.
It wasn’t just some simulation exercise; an actual monster had appeared.
There wasn’t much to fear though. The opponent was merely a C-class monster. Unless it were in a civilian area, this place was a hero-training school surrounded by monsters. It wasn’t much of a threat.
However, one issue did arise: this was a mutated monster. Rushing into it without a plan could lead to a major defeat.
The special ability possessed by this mutated monster put anyone who came within range to sleep through its song.
You could roughly think of it as a siren.
So, we prepared a countermeasure. Earplugs obtained from the emergency room. These would protect against the monster’s sleep magic.
All that was left was to convince the others.
Would they easily trust me when I told them to wear earplugs?
Especially in the midst of battle?
“Hey. Stain-neck.”
“What, spoon.”
Inside the classroom, Moon Shin-chung, who was sitting at the back, was called out. As always, he was playing on his phone.
“I’ll only confess this to you: I can see the future.”
“What kind of crazy talk is this in the morning? Are you saying you can see the future?”
“Exactly. A Break will soon happen around this school. For reference, the monster uses sleep magic and…”
“Wow, you’re acting all high-and-mighty about this. If you can see the future, why don’t you teach me the lottery numbers instead? Huh?”
Of course, telling someone about an event that hasn’t happened yet proved difficult. Moon Shin-chung didn’t believe me, as expected.
Likely, others would react similarly. They’d think it was nonsense.
─Arna! Good morning!
─Yes, good morning.
Not everyone had to be convinced. Persuading key individuals would suffice.
Naturally, the target was Arna.
The hero who would stop this Break, the protagonist of <Tyr One>. At a time like this, Arna was truly the only one.
Let’s approach her right away.
“Arna, how about we go have a smoke together?”
“It’s been a while? I never smoke, to begin with!”
That’s strange. At work, everyone usually agrees to go out for a smoke…
Apparently, Arna was still feeling awkward around me.
I’ll need to create more rapport.
An S-rank awakener, one that arises once in a hundred years, Arna Kristin Dotir, had been frequently experiencing headaches recently.
“Huh, Arna…”
The cause was none other than Shin Yoon-seong, who belonged to the Combat Division. He had occasionally picked fights since last year, but recently, the frequency had increased.
“I’ve brought the pizza bread and picnic set you ordered. I’ve left 500 won, as promised.”
“But people will think I ordered it! I never did, so please take it back immediately!”
“Sorry, the pizza bread must have been too cold. Let me warm it up again. It should take around 20 seconds, right?”
“For the love of…”
…
It wasn’t over there. Shin Yoon-seong would also…
“Arna, this period is for mobility training. I’ve prepared the equipment here.”
“Why are you labeling me as the troublemaker from the start? Other people will misunderstand!”
“Sorry. I forgot to wipe it before using it. Could you forgive me one last time?”
“Will you listen to people talking for once…!”
…
…
And during lunchtime…
“Arna, let me treat you to lunch. Do you like hoe-ttang?”
…
…
And during the afternoon lecture…
“Arna, this is your seat. I heated it up for thirty minutes before the lecture started.”
…
…
Even after personal training was done…
“Arna, good job on today’s training. Are you taking a shower? Where should I place your underwear? I just brought it.”
“Kyaaaaa! This is the women’s changing room! How dare you walk in confidently like this!”
“Now you’re finally paying attention to me. I thought you might hate me since you didn’t say anything from halfway through.”
“I already hate you plenty! And, HOW do you even know what size underwear I wear?”
Shin Yoon-seong held up a bra and said,
“Arna, out of everyone, I know the most about you. Like your bra size…”
“Dieeeeee!”
“Excuse me, senpai, over there…”
While moving the medical waste bins outside, a junior pointed somewhere.
Choi Soo-eun, from the Medical Division, looked in the direction the junior pointed.
─Arna, you can take me. My body, my spoon, everything is yours.
─Kyaaaaaaa! Why are you taking your clothes off all of a sudden? Get out of here!
The blonde girl, Arna, was fleeing in a cold sweat, while Shin Yoon-seong chased after her.
Both were familiar faces.
Arna was already the idol of Han-yul Military Academy, so practically no one didn’t know her. Shin Yoon-seong had recently visited the emergency room as well, making him known.
It was strange not to know either of them.
“Looks like their relationship isn’t good?”
Hmm. Did they really have a good relationship? It looked more like one-sided obsession on one end.
Of all people, Choi Soo-eun knew best. After all, she had repeatedly received impassioned proposals accompanied by difficult-to-deal-with flower bouquets.
─Seriously, how long are you planning to keep doing this? Surely you don’t intend to chase me into the restroom, do you?
─Arna, if that’s what you wish, I’d be happy to.
─I never wished for that! Seriouslyyyy!
But now that wouldn’t happen anymore. There had been an agreement recently with Shin Yoon-seong: to stop bringing bouquets.
“…”
When she thought about it, it was odd. He said he would give up something he had been doing for over a year, without regret. That was strange.
“Could it be…”
Was it because of the Arna running over there? Did he fall in love with her?
How ironic. Clearly, they had never gotten along. Shin Yoon-seong was always acting crazy over Arna, but she had always hated him.
Did they develop feelings for each other after all the fighting?
“Never mind… It’s none of my business now.”
Shin Yoon-seong wasn’t her concern anymore anyway. No reason to think about it.
Choi Soo-eun shook her head and decided to continue her work.
Arna had been harassed all day by Shin Yoon-seong. No matter how much she ran or tried to escape, Shin Yoon-seong was always there. He even followed her to the entrance of the women’s restroom.
It was terrifying.
Eventually, Arna gave up on everything and pleaded with Shin Yoon-seong.
“I lost… I give up… So please, stop these antics now…”
“What antics are you talking about? Everything I’ve been doing is for you, Arna.”
“I-I-I-What is for me! It looks like nothing but bad behavior to anyone watching!”
While normally she could have retaliated his provocations, this baffling goodwill had her stumped. It was completely different.
In some sense, it was even worse.
“Then why are you treating me like this? What do you want from me?”
“Something I want from you.”
Shin Yoon-seong paused, contemplating for a moment before revealing what he had kept hidden.
“There’s one thing I want from you, Arna.”
“Alright, so what is it?”
Whatever it was, he had to say it quickly and get it over with. This insane obsession had to end before tomorrow. If it stretched on, she might lose her mind.
“Just once, trust me.”
“What? Trust me, you say?”
Shin Yoon-seong nodded.
“Nothing more, just this one instance. I’d like you to follow my words for that moment. That’s all.”
“Is this like a wish request or something?”
“More or less.”
She had never followed his words without something odd happening. She always ended up mixed up in trouble, leading to arguments.
It was natural to be suspicious.
“Are you playing another trick on me?”
“No. This time, I’m serious.”
Kerchunk.
Shin Yoon-seong suddenly knelt down in the middle of the road.
Arna frantically shook her hands.
“Why are doing this? Why kneel all of a sudden? Stand up, quick!”
“I won’t move an inch until Arna agrees.”
During the 23 evaluation battles between the two over the past year, Arna had realized something.
He was not the type to kneel easily.
If he lay down flat on the ground, sure. But he had never bowed to his own limits during any of those battles.
Shin Yoon-seong never gave up. When he fell, he’d return the next day and challenge her again, acting like a zombie.
That was the Shin Yoon-seong she knew.
But now…
“Alright! I’ll hear you out, so please stand up! People are watching! Do you want to frame me as a delinquent or what!”
Shin Yoon-seong got up at last.
What could it be that necessitated him to kneel all the way down on the ground?
Does it indicate how urgent the situation was?
“So what do you want me to listen to?”
“That’s…”
Weeeeeeeeeng─
Just as Shin Yoon-seong was about to speak, sirens blared across the schoolyard.
An alert signal.
─This is Central Command reporting. At 20:17 hours, an unidentified Break has been detected approximately 2km southwest of the west gate.
─Students and staff are advised to evacuate to nearby underground facilities or rooms. Emergency response teams are requested to swiftly assemble in front of S1 Command Room.
─This is a repeat announcement.
The announcement continued.
There was a monster attacking outside the school.
“Monster… we should head to the situation room first.”
We could continue the conversation later. Arna swiftly moved her body.
However, Shin Yoon-seong looked toward the dormitory, not the situation room.
“Go ahead first. I’ll briefly stop by my room.”
