I had a feeling that I had just committed something monumental.
I merely acted on instinct, but it summoned dark clouds and brought down lightning.
What is this?
It’s utterly absurd. At this point, isn’t this just walking natural disaster?
Is that mutant over there… actually dead?
I approached the Minotaur and placed my hand under his nose.
Thankfully, he was still alive.
His skin had been scorched black by the lightning, yet I could see it regenerating before my eyes.
Remarkable resilience. I inspected him more thoroughly to ensure that he wouldn’t rise again, but it was clear he was unconscious. It would take quite some time for him to regain consciousness.
But still… how should I deal with this situation? I did get the National Intelligence Service agent’s contact the last time, but if I call and ask them to clean it up, will they actually do it?
Anyway, let me first disperse these storm clouds before thinking further.
I waved my hand. Instantly, the dark clouds that had covered the sky disappeared.
…It felt like I truly had become some kind of deity.
I absentmindedly touched my head. It seemed my hat had flown away due to the strong winds that surrounded me when I summoned the lightning.
Glancing around, I saw my hat lying in front of Lee Si-hyun.
Now that the situation had mostly settled, I picked up the hat from in front of her and dusted it off, then said:
“The situation has ended. You can go now.”
“A, yes, thank you very much.”
“Well, I should head out too. My younger sibling is waiting for me.”
“Um… I would like to offer my gratitude…”
“There’s no need for gratitude. I’m fine.”
“But still…”
“I’m alright, really. Didn’t I say that? I’m doing this to change perceptions of mutants a little. Wouldn’t accepting compensation sort of undermine the meaning?”
“Hmm, then… could I at least know your name?”
“It’s… Seo-hyun. Yoon Seo-hyun.”
After stating my name, Seo-hyun vanished on the spot, like a mirage.
She must have disappeared to avoid drawing attention. She didn’t want to become a spectacle for the onlookers.
That was the only conclusion Si-hyun could reach. Most of the people who had fled earlier were staring this way with wide eyes.
Si-hyun felt like she had just experienced a dream while observing the scene.
“Wow…”
What escaped her lips next was a gasp of amazement.
The mutant, who resembled something out of a hero movie, left her eyes brimming with emotion.
Though she had nearly died and been saved, that hardly mattered now.
After all, she was still alive.
She thought to herself.
“If I can meet her again. Wait. Yoon Seo-hyun…? I feel like I’ve heard that name somewhere…”
Though she muttered these words filled with vague hope, she didn’t realize at the time.
She would meet Seo-hyun much sooner than she expected.
Before contacting my younger sibling, I pulled out my smartphone and called the Number of the National Intelligence Service that I had on hand.
“Yes. This is Choi Jeong-ho speaking.”
“Hello. Agent. This is mutant Yoon Seo-hyun.”
“Hello, Seo-hyun. What is the matter? I have a bit of an urgent situation, so please forgive me if I keep this call brief.”
“I have subdued the Minotaur-type mutant, so I’m contacting you. It seems like your urgent situation might be due to this person.”
“…Excuse me?”
“If you go straight from Exit 2 of Hangungdaehak Entrance Station, you’ll find Hanbit Café by the busy district. You should find him knocked out in front of that café.”
“Hold on. Did you subdue a Minotaur-type mutant?”
“Yes. I’ve moved away from the area, but he likely won’t be able to move for a while. He was struck directly by lightning, is definitely unconscious, so you can simply go and restrain him.”
“Lightning? What do you mean by ‘lightning’?”
“Uh, you see… it’s my ability.”
“Hmm. Understood. We’ll head there quickly.”
After the call ended, not long after, my smartphone rang again. As expected, it was Agent Choi Jeong-ho. He must have been closer than I had anticipated.
“I’ve confirmed. Why did you personally get involved in a potentially dangerous situation?”
“Because if mutants like that run wild, people will surely panic whenever they see one in the future. It seemed like people wouldn’t be able to walk streets in peace…”
“So, I decided to do something.”
“Thank you for your help. You’ve done a great service.”
“Um, could you tell me…”
“Yes? Is there anything you require?”
“Not exactly, but… when I took care of that person, the asphalt was slightly damaged. Would I not be liable for any repairs?”
“Haha! Don’t worry about that. Repairs? You’ll be receiving a reward instead. That person had an active arrest warrant on them.”
“Ah.”
“We’ll send the payment to the account you provide. Since this person was quite troublesome, the reward is rather substantial.”
“Isn’t there usually more complicated procedures involved?”
“As someone overseeing mutants’ matters, I can bypass most of the procedures.”
“Ah…”
“Anyway, thank you once again. That person was in an extremely frenzied state, and thanks to you, we prevented significant harm to either agents or civilians.”
“Ah, yes.”
Looks like I hit the jackpot.
As people say, it’s always good to do the right thing.
After exchanging some pleasantries, I ended the call and dialed my younger sibling.
“It’s over.”
“Hey! Are you hurt!?”
“I’m fine, don’t worry. I’m stronger than I imagined.”
“Hmm… understood.”
“Where are you?”
“I’m waiting where we last parted.”
“I’ll come over soon. I’m hungry because I exerted myself. Let’s go home and eat something.”
“…Then, I’ll just order ahead.”
“Good. That works for me.”
It feels like my sibling seems confused… Probably just a misunderstanding.
[What the heck! Insane stuff seen today.]
Remember the Minotaur-type mutant captured while causing trouble a while ago?
Today, that guy escaped and was rampaging at the busy district around Hangungdaehak Entrance Station,
When all of a sudden, some woman appeared and knocked him out instantly.
But it didn’t end there.
Though the Minotaur had some resilience and rose again, thick storm clouds suddenly gathered, and a lightning bolt struck him down precisely.
The guy became instant barbecue.
Anyway, from afar, I could see that the woman seemed to have something resembling horns on her. The lightning originated from there.
Do you remember the rumors posted recently on the community site claiming to be a High Elf, who insisted they were associated with Dragon-type mutants?
It seems those rumors might be true.
That woman who cooked the Minotaur must be a Dragon-type mutant.
– Do not spread false information.
-No… This is real! A lot of people saw it; it’ll be on the news soon.
-What? Is this real?
-Damn… Dragon-type mutants are real?
-Don’t you have any video? Even photos?
-Hey, when a Minotaur is rampaging, where do you find crazy people to record videos? Also, there was a temporary power outage after the lightning.
-Wow…
-What about it?
-I couldn’t see clearly from far away… the entire scene was shrouded in blackness.
“…I didn’t expect it would come to this.”
“What? What is it?”
While eating pizza with my younger sibling, I was scrolling through my smartphone when I saw my name pop up in the breaking news section.
Generally, it reported that a Minotaur-type mutant had wreaked havoc at Hangungdaehak Entrance Station, and a mutant had subdue
d it. The article mentioned that the mutant had artificially summoned lightning to accomplish this.
“Am I in the media now?”
“What!?”
“Check it out. There’s a breaking news report.”
“Wait a minute. What is this? Artificially summoned lightning? Is this real!?”
“Yes. I’ve also heard that storm clouds can be summoned.”
“Wow… Are you some kind of deity?”
“I’m a dragon, remember? It must be a racial trait of dragons… I did mention that I’m the last mutant to develop globally.”
“No, even so… It’s still hard to believe.”
“As I did it, I felt strange too.”
“You do seem like a real mutant.”
I can understand my sibling’s reaction.
If it were me and my sibling suddenly became a dragon and started throwing lightning, I’d be shocked too.
However, as long as I don’t do anything strange, everything will be fine.
Even though I’ve become a dragon, the human instincts of Yoon Seo-hyun remain unchanged.
Our family’s sense of estrangement will fade with time.
…Ever since waking up after the transformation, I’ve noticed that my thinking process has become a little more daring. Originally, I would have been sleepless with worry over things like this.
Even though I might appear composed, my nature is careful and cautious.
If I had kept my original thinking pattern, I probably wouldn’t have taken such direct action despite concerns about people’s perceptions of mutants.
But the fact that I directly went to deal with a Minotaur shows that my actions are now brimming with confidence, which can only be attributed to the effects of the mutation.
Anyway… Since the mutation, it seems not only my body but also my mind has become stronger.
Let’s take it as a positive change.
*
Current time: 9:00 AM.
I snapped awake.
The officetel where I live with my younger sibling was surprisingly comfortable.
What we casually refer to as a dormitory is, in reality, more appropriately called a home.
…It seems our parents have pushed themselves quite hard.
It’s understandable though, since both my sibling and I have confidence in our dedication to study.
Korea University is, unsurprisingly, one of the most prestigious universities in Korea, with the exception of dental and medical schools, of course.
Anyway, I had nothing to do.
Work? Who in their right mind would hire a mutant for a job?
Study? I’ve already mastered all the necessary overviews. Being in the third year isn’t just about show, you know.
Meaning, I don’t have any issues keeping up with classes.
Therefore… there’s really nothing for me to do.
Only wasting time remains.
Scratching my belly and getting up, I prepared to wash rice. My sibling would undoubtedly be sprawled out asleep, so I’ll just have to make breakfast.
Roughly 4 portions, enough to last until dinner for both my sibling and me, will be fine.
After washing the rice, I took out the eggs.
With kimchi, eggs, and bacon, the most luxurious feast can be served.
After finishing the meal, I headed to the bathroom.
As a dragon, I could maintain physical cleanliness without necessarily bathing, but the feeling of washing up is important too, right?
Although it’s a hassle to dry my hair, the refreshing sensation after washing up is absolutely worth enduring that inconvenience.
“Haaahm… Have you bathed?”
“Yup. Breakfast is ready, so just heat it up in the microwave.”
“Ah… thanks.”
After nearly finishing my shower and drying my hair, my sibling popped out of the room, yawning.
