Chapter 60

1.

Bang!

The sound of a desk being violently slammed echoed through the room.

However, no one commented on Serika’s outburst. Everyone just maintained a serious expression.

“Is this… real?”

Serika broke the silence with a muttered question. Her eyes were fixed on the documents on the conference table.

The data we obtained from raiding the Dark Bank contained shockingly significant information – from the traces of Kaiser Corporation hiring delinquent students to their ownership of most of the land in the Abidos district.

This was the moment everyone realized our enemy was the large corporation, Kaiser Corporation.

They had been slowly devouring Abidos over a long period of time, little by little.

Even our teacher, who was with us, looked surprised at their cunning and meticulousness.

“What is Kaiser Corporation after…? Slowly buying up Abidos land while pressuring Abidos High School. They’re probably planning to swallow the district with money. These bastards.”

Though my voice remained calm, Serika’s response was filled with anger. But more than anger, there was an overwhelming sense of fear in her expression.

Nonomi, Shiroko, and Hifumi also reacted.

“I don’t understand! What could be the reason for these actions? Is receiving money alone not enough for them?”

“This isn’t something a single bank could’ve orchestrated. There’s no doubt the main office’s intentions were involved…”

“…Yes. That’s the logical conclusion.”

It was overwhelming. And it was frustrating.

The emotion capturing the Abidos Countermeasures Committee right now was exactly that – the realization that we were up against an enemy too massive for us to resist.

Everyone looked gloomily at the documents on the table, secretly hoping they were false.

“Hmm…”

In the committee room, only one person reacted differently.

While others showed despair or anger, one girl with mismatched eyes seemed to be deep in thought, contemplating how to solve this situation.

I looked away from her, silently praying she would make the right decision.

“Thank you all very much.”

That afternoon, Hifumi announced her intention to return to her alma mater, Trinity Academy, as scheduled. We all saw her off. During this time, Hifumi reported what she learned to Trinity’s Student Council, “Tiffany,” and declared their intention to help Abidos…

“No, it’s not necessary.”

Hoshino declined the offer. The reasons were similar to those in the original story.

The involvement of large academies like Trinity or Gehenna would cause more confusion for Abidos. At this point, Abidos didn’t have the means to control the actions of such large academies.

Upon hearing this, Hifumi gave a bitter smile, showing her disappointment.

“… Politics sure is complicated.”

“Hoshino-senpai, aren’t you thinking too pessimistically? They really could help, like Hiiro did.”

Nonomi expressed her concern about Hoshino’s pessimistic judgment, citing previous precedent that things could turn out differently this time.

Originally, Hoshino would have responded that she had become someone who couldn’t trust others’ goodwill, but she remained silent due to my presence. So I decided to clarify the situation myself.

Since I also didn’t prefer the involvement of other academies, especially considering what was about to happen soon.

“I also agree with Hoshino-senpai’s opinion. I had my own reasons to want to get close to everyone, but that’s not necessarily true for others. Individuals and groups have different judgment values.”

“Uhe~ Hiiro really understands me!”

“Ah… What a shame…”

In the end, we parted with regret.

“Ahaha… See you all again sometime!”

“Hey, Faust-sama. Thanks for everything.”

“President of the Swimsuit Masked Group! See you again next time!”

“Please… don’t call me that!”

2.

The die has been cast.

A famous phrase representing Julius Caesar’s declaration after making an important decision. The situation right now parallels that expression.

I’ve already rolled the dice through countless events, and now all I can do is hope things turn out as planned. More specifically, I hope others make the right decisions.

“Turning point, huh.”

When I was outlining the main story and planning, I called these critical moments “turning points.” Points where important choices would determine the future.

The moment where I or someone else needs to make a crucial decision.

This is exactly that moment.

Will Hoshino accept the Black Suit’s proposal?

Will Gehenna’s leadership invade Abidos?

And will Kaiser Corporation proceed with their ambitions despite my interference?

Many choices intersect, leading to the future.

It took considerable time to reach this point. I’ve been mostly satisfied with how things have developed, though there have been moments of dissatisfaction as well.

However, nothing compares to this moment.

The decision made at this point will significantly impact the future story. It’s the most critical decision, thus I’m pondering deeply.

What would be the most optimal choice?

“Teacher, do you have a moment?”

“Hm? Hiiro?”

Maybe hearing someone else’s advice would be beneficial.

From the only adult in the city whom I respect and believe might offer wise counsel.

I briefly explained my dilemma to him.

I asked him for the best method to make the right decision among multiple choices in a critical situation.

After pondering for a moment, he gave me an unexpected response.

“Do you like Silk?”

“Excuse me?”

“Not in that way. It’s just that you’ve shown a deep interest in Silk for a while now.”

“Er… I do have some interest. Why are you bringing this up?”

‘You should take care of Silk since she belongs to you.’

I awkwardly responded while thinking this to myself.

“Silk is righteous. Always upright and makes the right choices. I too learn from her sometimes.”

“Teacher…”

“Yes? Isn’t she someone worthy of respect?”

“…”

This is the first time I’m hearing this.

I could only look at him in surprise.

The adult from Kiburatos whom I respect, the teacher who recognizes me, acknowledges me.

For some reason, just this fact made my heart race.

“When you find it difficult to choose, try putting yourself in someone else’s shoes and decide what they would do. Imagine ‘If I were someone else, what would I choose?'”

“…”

“When I look at you, Hiiro, I see a student with an honest nature. Following your own judgment would be best, but borrowing another’s perspective is also acceptable when it’s difficult.”

“Is… that so?”

In response to my question, the teacher nodded readily.

Then he asked me in turn.

“So, Hiiro, are you going to help the committee?”

His tone suggested he already had an idea of my decision.

Perhaps the teacher has realized I’m Silk?

I don’t know. But right now…

“Yes. They’re my friends.”

“Go ahead and do what you want. I’ll take responsibility.”

A familiar line. A sentence that explains why the students trust and believe in the teacher so much.

I smiled as I replied to the teacher.

“Heh. That sounds pretty good.”

“Does it?”

“Thank you. I feel a bit more at ease now.”

“That’s good to hear.”

We faced each other and smiled.

Now it was time for me to make my choice.

3.

Click

In the quiet early morning hours, a girl stood atop one of the few high-rise buildings in Abidos, tinkering with her mask as she looked down at the city.

A girl revered by many as a hero, now regarded as the hope and symbol of justice for the city.

A girl who experienced the mysterious event of waking up in someone else’s body after possession, defeated countless enemies, and pursued the truth about herself.

People called her “Silk.”

And someone else…

“Hiiro. I’m ready.”

Called her “Nanashi Hiiro.”

Receiving the signal from her supporting teammates, the hero stood up and looked out at the world through her blue mask.

A familiar scene – once experienced only through a screen.

Places and moments I could only enjoy through fan devotion, now transformed into a space I can actually step into and touch.

“Himari-senpai.”

“Yes?”

“What do you think a hero is?”

“…A hero, huh?”

Himari’s surprised voice suggested my question was unexpected. I continued without waiting for her response – since I wasn’t really asking for an answer.

“Someone who does what others cannot, sees what others do not, and smiles when others cannot.”

“…”

“Someone who makes the right choices better than others. That’s what I believe a hero is.”

This was a definition of heroism I could only articulate now, after some time had passed.

I looked down at the city and smiled warmly. The fear I once held about whether my choices were right no longer existed.

I simply trust.

I utilize everything I have and block everything that comes my way.

I move ahead everyone, pushing forward and overcoming.

Just as the teacher has unwavering faith in the students,

I place absolute trust in Silk’s decisions.

And based on that judgment,

I knew this was the moment to act.

I had judged and decided.

“Let’s begin.”

As a hero, taking the first steps to save the city,

I declared to Himari.

Whirr

The glove on my left hand emitted light.

A drone behind me came to life with noise.

My mask’s blue glow read information.

From my earpiece came the reliable voices of my teammates.

“Hehe. I’ve been waiting for those words.”

“Let’s go whenever you’re ready!”

“I’ll give you my best support, Silk.”

With the trust and backing of everyone,

I launched off the building railing.

“Huff.”

I exhaled,

closed my eyes momentarily,

and opened my senses.

In an instant, countless pieces of information filled my mind to aid my judgment.

Detecting, sensing, comprehending.

The enemies had begun their movements.

Now, it was my turn to twist the original story completely.

As Silk, and as Hiiro,

using everything I had,

“I’ll answer to your choices.”

This was the choice I made,

the only fighting method possible for me as a possessionist.

I raced toward the enemies’ future,

to make their future my past.
