Chapter 442 – Escape and Return
“Tell me in detail what happened to you, Barna. What abilities did they have, and how did they subdue you?”
Bengochiel slowly said to Barna, who then straightforwardly recounted his and his companion’s encounter in detail, including how they were ambushed, what abilities their opponents possessed, and how he managed to escape in the end. After thoroughly listening to Barna’s account, Bengochiel’s expression became even more serious.
“High-speed regeneration, immense physical strength, sudden sharp pain in the body… These are almost all manifestations of the power of ‘Cup.’ I never thought they bought so many ‘Stone’ transmissions, and that they would be a ‘Stone,’ but it turns out they are ‘Cup’?”
Bengochiel muttered with a frown, pondering over the recent “Cup” society he might have offended. He couldn’t figure out who could have done this, so he shifted his thoughts to another direction and continued looking at Barna.
“You just mentioned that you escaped when they weren’t paying attention. If those guys could subdue both of you so easily, wouldn’t they let you escape just like that?”
With a hint of doubt, Bengochiel said to Barna. After hearing this, Barna answered directly.
“Yes, sir. They mainly subdued us due to the ambush. If we had fought them head-on, we wouldn’t necessarily have lost. Although they ambushed us, they didn’t fully understand our abilities. They restrained me by tying me up with ropes, which gave me the chance to escape. Because they were unaware, they made mistakes during the ambush. I could have escaped earlier if not for rescuing Rock.”
Barna said with certainty to Bengochiel. After hearing this, Bengochiel’s doubt did not dissipate; instead, he asked Barna with a guarded tone.
“Barna… Do you remember when you started working under me?”
“Of course, sir. It was four years ago in March. I was in Yaz…”
Barna answered Bengochiel’s question. After hearing the correct answer, Bengochiel’s doubt did not completely disappear. He continued to ask Barna about more details, and Barna answered all questions correctly.
After hearing Barna’s responses and confirming that he was indeed the person himself and in good mental state, Bengochiel turned to look at the servant standing beside him and said:
“Alaurio, go fetch the Radiance Lamp and shine it on Barna. Make sure to use one with higher efficiency.”
“Yes, sir.” Alaurio responded and left. During this time, Bengochiel continued speaking to Barna.
“When you are being illuminated, do not consume ‘Shadow’ to resist.”
“Yes, sir…”
Barna replied. At this moment, the young servant Dorothy, who had just left, returned to the room with an unusual kerosene lamp in hand.
The young servant held the Radiance Lamp in front of Barna and activated it. The orange-yellow light illuminated the surroundings and shone on Barna, who did not resist and allowed the lamp to shine on him.
Finally, after a considerable amount of time and several “Lamp” storage items were used, the Radiance Lamp revealed no abnormal traces of extraordinary power on Barna. Seeing this, Bengochiel nodded and continued:
“Alright, stop now. Go back and rest, Barna. But don’t sleep. We need to prepare everything tonight and leave Trua early tomorrow morning.”
“Leave tomorrow… I understand, sir. I’ll go prepare right away.”
As Barna withdrew, another middle-aged man standing next to Bengochiel, who appeared worried, asked Bengochiel:
“Sir, isn’t leaving early tomorrow too hasty? There are still many resources in Trua that haven’t been gathered. That ‘Cup’ society that ambushed Barna and others couldn’t even keep watch properly, so they shouldn’t be too strong. We don’t need to fear them…”
“Fear is unnecessary, but the key is that we know too little about them. Unknowns often bring uncertain dangers. We are only staying temporarily in this city and don’t have the time to investigate them thoroughly.
“No matter who they are, since they noticed the anomaly in the Trua Artisan Guild, it poses a risk to us. Our mission is to eliminate the Trua Artisan Guild and gather as much extraordinary resources as possible from Trua. We don’t need to expend energy and face unknown societies in a deadly struggle. Since the last of the Trua artisans has been eliminated and our main objectives are largely achieved, there’s no need to stay any longer and take risks. We can return and report first, and deal with this matter later.
“We will prepare everything tonight and leave early tomorrow morning by train. Falor, go down and prepare. There’s no need to stay here and prolong the night.”
Bengochiel said. Facing the attack from an unknown society, his cautious attitude led him to choose evacuation over confrontation. After hearing his words, Falor nodded and withdrew. Bengochiel stood up from his seat and began preparing for evacuation.
…
Under the night sky, on the rooftop of a house not far from Bengochiel’s manor, a small black figure was gazing at a distant courtyard.
“Aah… Preparing tonight, leaving early tomorrow morning. As Beverly said, these people are very cautious…”
Dressed in a black cloak and wearing a black hood, Dorothy murmured while gazing at the distant manor.
“But… preparing overnight and not sleeping at all, this is somewhat troublesome for me. Fortunately, I have a solution…”
As she spoke, Dorothy sat on the ground and lowered her head, using a method to induce sleep, allowing herself to fall asleep and activate her thoughts in the dream.
In the dream, Dorothy used her spiritual thread to manipulate her body, making it stand up again. Then, she took out a small iron bottle from her cloak.
This small bottle was a trophy obtained from Barna and his companions. After appraisal, Dorothy confirmed that it contained a hypnotic gas of the “Shadow” nature, capable of putting anyone who inhales it into a deep sleep. The gas was produced by a sigil wrapped around the bottle, known as the Deep Sleep Sigil. When the sigil was activated, it burned and turned into hypnotic smoke. If collected in the bottle and used, it could better control the dosage and target others.
Holding the newly seized small bottle, Dorothy opened the lid and brought it close to her nose, inhaling the gas to deepen her already sleeping state.
Then, in the dream, Dorothy manipulated the spiritual thread, transmitting the deep sleep effect caused by the Deep Sleep Sigil to Barna, who was marked with the General Language Puppet Mark inside the manor.
Inside the manor, Barna, who was preparing to evacuate, suddenly felt an irresistible drowsiness and fell asleep. Immediately afterward, Dorothy used the Puppet Mark to manipulate the sleeping Barna.
Awakening in the dream, Barna checked to ensure no one was around, then walked to a nearby room window. After opening the window, he saw a large eagle standing on the windowsill, with a cloth bag beside it.
Barna opened the bag and found it contained yellowish-brown explosives.
