Chapter 63: I’m Not Afraid of You!

Chapter 63: I’m Not Afraid of You!

“By the way, how are you two enjoying the festival party today? Feeling happy?”

Yin turned to ask the two about their feelings at the celebration party today.

“Um. I’m really happy! Please thank the City Lord for specifically keeping us here to enjoy this festival.”

“Yeah. So far, I’m enjoying this party too. The Cotton Candy and Apple Candy are delicious.”

It seemed that Yake and Aierjisi were quite satisfied with the celebration party. Yin felt relieved; she was worried those two might be unhappy with the City Lord’s festivities.

“But, Yin, do you have anything special you recommend among these refreshments? Aksel and I are still looking for something interesting. If you could show us around, we could save a lot of trouble.”

Aierjisi suddenly asked Yin to guide them to the interesting stuff in the celebration. With Yin, an old acquaintance, guiding them, they could avoid a lot of detours.

“Sorry, I can’t do that because I still have work to finish.”

Yin shook her head, declining Aierjisi’s request.

Like the two of them, Yin was also here on a mission today. Her task was to catch the perpetrator wanting to disrupt the party before they made any moves. However, the culprit was well-hidden, and Yin had yet to find them.

“I see. Well, if it’s work-related, there’s nothing we can do. Carry on with your hard work, and Aksel and I will just continue wandering around the city. Bye!”

After saying goodbye to Yin, Aierjisi took Yake’s hand and led him away.

On the other side, looking at the jubilant atmosphere around the city, A Jie felt more nauseous than ever.

Seriously, how miserable would he have to feel before he could give up? These guys!

“Hey dude, are you feeling okay? You’ve been covering your mouth more lately.”

Seeing A Jie kneeling down again, covering his mouth and wanting to vomit, a Bird landed on his shoulder, expressing concern.

“I’m fine. I don’t need you to worry about me. I’ve been making sure you guys are well-fed lately, just for today’s showdown. Are you confident?”

A Jie turned to look at the Giant and Leopard waiting behind him. During this time, he’d provided plenty for these three. Alive, alive, alive.

“Don’t worry, we’ve eaten enough of your food, and we’ll definitely work hard. Today’s mission is just to cause a massive uproar at this party, right?”

“Exactly. Just cause chaos today and leave that party in total ruins. The more mayhem, the better. Let’s make those disgusting guys scream in agony!”

Just thinking about making those smug and smiling idiots scream in despair made A Jie feel thrilled to the point of getting goosebumps.

“Okay, okay. Rest assured, the three of us are professionals and will definitely follow your orders to wreak havoc. So, when do we strike?”

The Bird understood the mission now; it was just waiting for the right moment to act.

“I’m not sure when we can strike because I’m waiting for that damn City Lord to come out of the City Lord’s Mansion.”

A Jie glared at the City Lord’s Mansion in the distance.

His main target today was that damn City Lord. If it weren’t for their insistence on clearing out the Old District, his boss and companions wouldn’t have been burned to death by that wretched woman.

There was no way A Jie would forgive this City Lord. No matter how today went, he had to find a way to take him down and make him pay the price he deserved.

“Uh… speaking of which, there sure are some delicious smells wafting around the city today. Is today some special day?”

The Bird sniffed the aroma coming from the city. It was the scent of food, hot food. Just smelling it made the Bird’s mouth water uncontrollably.

“Yes, today is the anniversary of the City Lord’s appointment. There’s a celebration happening in the city.”

“Oh wow, that’s why there are so many delicious foods today! How about we grab some hot food before all the fun begins?”

“Not happening.”

“Why not?”

The Bird tilted its head at A Jie, puzzled by his refusal.

“Because those foods still cost money even today, and I… don’t have any.”

Come on, if A Jie had any money, would he have been digging through trash cans behind bakeries like before? There’s no way a petty thief like him would have any cash.

“I see, so food needs to be exchanged for money. Is that one of the social rules created by humans?”

The Bird finally understood why A Jie said it was impossible.

“So, are we just going to sit here waiting before we start? Just standing here smelling the delicious food isn’t pleasant for me either; look, even the Leopard is drooling!”

The Bird pointed at the Leopard standing by. It was clear the poor thing couldn’t hold back its drool.

“Hey. There’s nothing I can do; I’m just broke. A little patience, alright? Once you create a big enough ruckus, we should be able to sneak in and grab something. So please wait a bit longer.”

A Jie knew that smelling the food was tormenting, but there was no choice. For today’s operation and the ultimate victory, this kind of patience was necessary—just consider it part of the trial.

“Fine. Since you’ve put it that way, we’ll just wait here.”

With no other choice, the Bird joined A Jie in waiting for the right moment to act.

“City Lord, are you sure you want to go out today? You know there’s a thief out there wanting to take your life.”

Yin looked at the City Lord. Today was significant for him; he’d want to leave the City Lord’s Mansion to look around. There was nothing wrong with wanting to mingle with the citizens, but this time was different—if he went out, the City Lord might not make it back alive.

“Relax, Yin. I appreciate your concern, but I haven’t encountered a situation requiring your help yet. Besides, didn’t I tell you before? I have secret weapons; how could I fear a mere common thief?”

The City Lord said with a smile, patting Yin on the back. As the City Lord, he had to go out on this anniversary. Not just to let all the citizens bask in the festival’s frenzy but also to show that hidden thief what he was made of—he wasn’t afraid!
