The Student Council President had impulsively decided to head to a meat restaurant.
Even during the journey, she had contemplated the significant decision that, should Erica and Kim Ha-neul already have formed a deep bond or if Erica were to desire Kim Ha-neul, she might need to abandon her feelings. However, she hadn’t imagined that she would hear crucial news, such as learning they planned to launch a terror attack during the school math trip.
It wasn’t an era like the chaotic times of the Warring States where daily battles were fought, nor an age without law and order—especially in modern times where strict prohibitions ensure that Supernatural Ability Users don’t resort to m*rder. And yet, the news suggested that a terror-driven m*rder was imminent.
Even though Student Council President Lee Seo-ra had mentally prepared herself for a weighty decision related to romance before leaving the student council room, the news of the impending terror attack was something she had difficult believing, let alone wanting to believe.
Had it not been Kim Ha-neul and Erica delivering the news, she would have dismissed the information about the terror attack altogether.
Because, frankly, even though their words were compelling, there wasn’t sufficient evidence to support their claims.
“…There’s just not enough evidence.”
Erica claimed her decision stemmed from an intuition, while Kim Ha-neul said it was based on information received from someone they trusted.
Neither provided any convincing proof that persuaded others.
Had these claims come from anyone else, even if both simultaneously insisted on it, she might have been inclined to cautiously contact the psychiatric hospital instead. However, for Erica and Kim Ha-neul, they held a different significance in the Student Council President’s eyes.
Could it be the grace bestowed by “Supernatural Abilities” that Erica possessed, which gave her heightened sixth senses unlike anyone else? Or was it Kim Ha-neul, with the knowledge they acquired through their “Wisdom,” which even she couldn’t discern the origin of, and used it to resolve incidents?
Because of the time they had spent together, the insight granted by her wisdom, though it strengthened as information accumulated, was only effective to a certain extent on them. She couldn’t fully comprehend them.
It was as if they harbored some important secrets that they couldn’t reveal to her. Even though they were busy, the insights from her “Wisdom” didn’t reveal everything. Perhaps they had some secrets she wasn’t privy to.
People often have secrets. Even close friends and acquaintances can have things they keep hidden. Thus, just because they had secrets didn’t mean she should feel disheartened.
Instead, she felt grateful to them that, despite hiding their secrets, when problems arose, they still shared vital information that they had uncovered to help her as the Student Council President.
Hence, when the Student Council President said there wasn’t enough evidence, it did not mean that she doubted their credibility. Neither was she disregarding their words about the impending terror attack.
“In this state, it would be hard to persuade others. At best, acting within my discretion, I can only adjust the movements of the strong people within the school during the train ride to Busan. And I can’t alter the groups already arranged.”
This was her way of saying it would be hard to seek help from others. Specifically, bringing in the support they expected to secure the safety of the students wouldn’t be easy.
While the Student Council President kept thinking of the word “them,” aware that one more syllable should be added, she deliberately avoided saying it out loud, focusing instead on the word itself.
—Because to honor the trust of Kim Ha-neul who was willing to share information while revealing fragments of some secrets, it was better to suppress her thoughts in front of Erica.
“Should I really open all my senses… It’ll make me too sensitive.”
“Too sensitive, you say? …That sounds a bit risqué. When will they open then?”
“When I’m with you, it could be a good thing, but what I mean is different. I can perceive the feelings, actions, and even thoughts others direct at me, not just from the ones I want, but from everyone around me.”
“That sounds like some Supernatural Ability.”
“It’s not like Supernatural Ability—it is Supernatural Ability. But it’s not something I was born with—it was given to me by a woman I dislike. Therefore, even the benevolent feelings I sense from this sixth sense can make me uncomfortable, constantly reminding me of who gave me this ability.”
Fragments of their conversations during their time as a couple. Erica’s power allowed her to read the thoughts of others—a celestial ability.
Because of this ability, Erica stopped interacting with others. Of course, it wasn’t a perfect ability.
“Then, is there no one your sixth sense doesn’t apply to?”
It wasn’t that Erica could always read someone’s thoughts completely;
“I guess… The one I like. Like, uhh… the one right beside me now?”
“Person?”
“Yes, dummy.”
Even this was not a universal ability. Unlike “Protection,” though powerful, it had many flaws and thus ways to defend against it were relatively easy—Erica herself had explained everything to her.
When she used to blush and mutter “I like you” instead of “I love you,”
When she hesitated even to say “the person beside me now,”
These were sweet memories of their days together.
Memories passed on to Seo-ra entirely revealed what she must do. To honor the trust of a person Erica disliked and not learn Kim Ha-neul’s secrets through Erica, she must restrain even the most natural of her thoughts.
It might seem contradictory, as if the Student Council President was using information from their shared memories with someone she loved in order to sever ties with an unknown person. However, sometimes ignorance was preferable.
To Seo-ra, it was best if Erica never learned Kim Ha-neul’s secrets.
“Why do you look so troubled?”
“It wasn’t a request for you to resolve anything, so don’t worry too much.”
Misinterpreting her troubled look as concern about her words, the girl gently pulled at Seo-ra’s right sleeve to draw her attention and quickly began to clarify the misunderstanding.
Of course, it wasn’t entirely misunderstanding. She had always held the Student Council President, likely the main heroine of the world, in high regard.
The Student Council President was wise—whether it was by the power of her abilities or simply because she was chosen to have them was irrelevant. If no one else in the world possessed that wisdom, then the holder of “Wisdom” would indeed be the wisest.
Thus, even though Erica had only a hunch and Kim Ha-neul’s assurance, she expected the Student Council President to say something profound.
However, without regard to Erica’s unjustified expectations or her transparent disappointment, irrespective of the Student Council President’s efforts to find solutions,
Their steps reached the end. Unbeknownst to Erica, upon nearing the Student Council President’s house, the boy stopped, turned around, slightly tilted his head and asked silently—whether he should go home or continue to stay together. Kim Ha-neul didn’t know what Erica might say next, and he wanted to stay by Erica’s side.
“Well then, I’ll be off. I’ll have some good thoughts by Monday.”
Despite several thoughts crossing her mind, the woman shook her dark hair gently as a farewell gesture.
After stepping in abruptly between Erica and Kim Ha-neul, this woman had played her role as a lubricant well, and now that she had left, an awkwardness hung in the air.
It was an awkward hour for hanging out together, and they had already passed that point in their relationship. Sensing the atmosphere, the boy spoke up first to save Erica the trouble of hesitating.
“So, I guess we part here? You didn’t really have anything specific to ask me anyway.”
It wasn’t a wrong statement; by simply being there, Kim Ha-neul had accomplished what Erica needed, and that was done already.
Instead of waiting for Erica’s reply, the boy turned his back and placed his foot towards the direction where there were no lampposts.
The boy, who showed up during the busy weekend upon being asked yet remained without complaints and who now intended to quietly disappear after their task was completed, could indeed be called kind.
“Hey, don’t mess with Inna.”
This kindness somehow swayed Erica’s heart, who hadn’t previously considered mentioning the matter about Inna.
Naturally, due to the “System,” she had come to know that the boy was targeting Inna. She wouldn’t reveal how she knew, even if he asked.
If he believed he was the only active player, that was his mistake. With possible other protagonists at play, and knowing things beyond her reach like Inna’s situation, suggesting Kim Ha-neul mess around was indeed risky, meaning it would primarily bring suspicion.
However, this was predicated on her words not being heeded. If consideration was extended and they were, why wouldn’t she give a warning to leave Inna alone?
From Kim Ha-neul’s perspective, it was an unexpected statement. Just before disappearing into the shadows, the boy briefly turned towards Erica and said:
“That’s a request I can’t comply with. Have a good weekend, see you on Monday.”
After stating he couldn’t listen to that, his expression became momentarily blank, followed by a warm smile before he dissolved into the shadows completely.
Would the boy still linger beyond the darkness or was he already gone? Erica, not caring to find out, shifted her steps towards the familiar path to her home.
The Saturday was over.
