Chapter 65: The City Lord Throws Coins

Chapter 65: The City Lord Throws Coins

“Is this called Takoyaki, right?”

“Yeah. By the way, wasn’t this what you wanted to eat? How come you didn’t even know its name?”

Yake looked at Aierjisi with a subtle expression.

Just three minutes ago, while they were aimlessly wandering around the city attending this party, Aierjisi had suddenly pointed at a stall selling balls and said she wanted to eat that. Yake had rushed over to buy her a portion.

“I’ve just seen similar balls before. I didn’t expect the name would be the same!”

Aierjisi explained to Yake as she picked one up and popped it into her mouth.

“But Aier, you should be careful. The shopkeeper just told me that one of these is super spicy.”

“…”

“Aier?”

Seeing Aierjisi at her side, silent and clutching her mouth, Yake immediately felt uneasy. Could it be that the super spicy version had already been eaten by the Little Princess?!

“Ura!!!”

The Little Princess started to cry and let out an unintelligible shout.

“Wait a moment! I’ll get you a bottle of water right away!”

Yake dashed to the nearest shop, grabbed a bottle of orange juice, and poured it into Aierjisi’s mouth.

“Ah… I feel a bit better now. But Yake! You should’ve told me about this sooner! Don’t wait until I’m in trouble to say something!”

Aierjisi jumped up in anger and delivered a solid punch to Yake’s head, making a thumping sound.

“Ouch! I promise to warn you next time!”

Honestly, this wasn’t entirely Yake’s fault for being late; Aierjisi had just eaten so quickly that he hadn’t managed to explain before she swallowed the ball.

“Oh! The City Lord is coming out!”

“Really? The City Lord is coming out? This is exciting! Let’s go collect some coins!”

Upon hearing that the City Lord had come out of the City Lord’s Mansion, the nearby vendors abandoned their stalls and rushed toward where he was. After all, the City Lord was known for throwing gold coins, and leaving that opportunity behind would be foolish!

“The City Lord is coming out! It’s impressive that he still dares to show up knowing there are those who want to take him down.”

Hearing about the City Lord, Aierjisi clapped her hands, admiring his bravery today.

“Let’s hurry over. Who knows if the City Lord and Yin can handle the enemy’s attack!”

Yake suggested they rush over since the City Lord had emerged. With both him and Aierjisi by his side, the City Lord’s safety level could only increase.

“Don’t panic. Let’s finish eating these Takoyaki first, then we’ll go. The City Lord and Yin aren’t as weak as you think.”

In contrast to the anxious Yake, Aierjisi leisurely found a bench and started munching on her Takoyaki.

“But we should consider unexpected events, right? What if the City Lord gets overwhelmed by the enemy’s sudden onslaught?!”

“I said don’t panic. The City Lord has a secret weapon, and you’ve seen how powerful Yin is, haven’t you? In an instant, he can almost wipe out all the thieves in the Old District. If it weren’t for the Adrian People stepping in, they would have held their ground. So really, don’t worry, Yake. In situations like this, the more anxious you are, the worse it becomes.”

Seeing Aierjisi so calm, Yake felt he indeed might have been overly anxious. How could he doubt the strength of Yin and the City Lord? That was just silly!

“How about now? Feeling a bit more composed? Come on, eat a couple of Takoyaki. We’ll need to replenish our energy for the fight soon.”

Aierjisi offered Yake the remaining Takoyaki, urging him to eat and regain his strength.

“Oh. But will just these few Takoyaki be enough?”

“That’s plenty. After all, the City Lord prepared breakfast for us, and you ate quite a bit. Besides, we don’t know when the enemy will attack.”

The City Lord was in the open while the enemy lurked in shadows. When the attack would come depended entirely on the enemy; in the best-case scenario, they might even run away in fear upon seeing the City Lord appear. Regardless of the circumstances, Aierjisi wouldn’t be afraid of the enemy.

Yake didn’t say anything more and gobbled down the remaining balls in a couple of bites.

“Done eating? Now can we go?”

“Wow, you eat so fast! Is that how you always do it?”

“I’m used to it. As an Adventurer, you have to eat quickly; you never know when the enemy might strike! In fact, I’m a bit slow compared to other Adventurers.”

Reflecting on when he grouped up with Karito and the others to hunt monsters, he remembered their speed; they could clear out the main dish and sides in less than three minutes!

“Alright, let’s go check on the City Lord and see what the situation is over there. We should be heading that way, right?”

Aierjisi pointed left, where the vendors had all rushed off when they heard the City Lord had come out.

“Yeah, it must be that way. Let’s go, Aier. I’ll carry you so we can move faster!”

“No need for that. I have my own way of getting there. Black Magic Whirlwind!”

The moment she finished speaking, a small whirlwind surrounded Aierjisi and Yake, lifting them up and moving them toward that direction.

“Whoa, this feels just like being in a horse-drawn carriage! But it seems even faster.”

Yake was experiencing the speed of magic-based movement for the first time. What a convenient ability!

“Of course! Magic exists to make life easier. If I could, I would’ve done an Aierjisi Airlines! But that’d be too attention-grabbing, and I doubt you could handle it, so never mind.”

Aierjisi held her skirt down, trying to prevent the wind from blowing it up. Thanks to the Wind Magic’s swift movement, they arrived near the City Lord’s location in less than a minute.

“Oh, there are really a lot of people here. It’s so crowded!”

Looking at the citizens gathered along the road, Yake couldn’t help but sigh. The City Lord must hold quite a reputation among the people.

“Not really. The citizens are only here for the gold. Don’t forget, the City Lord will be throwing his hoarded gold coins today.”

No matter the world, humans are always greedy for wealth. Aierjisi had figured this out well.
