Chapter 675 “Beg for Subscriptions” Entering the Abyss
Even though Dark had released all his goodwill, Spike Leon was still unwilling to respond.
But in his mind, the matter was exposed.
In fact, as soon as Dark asked about it, he could no longer keep the secret.
Spike Leon’s case wasn’t exactly new.
— A demon resided in his heart.
In contemporary times, when all demons were supposedly wiped out — this was what was publicly announced.
However, even a hundred-legged worm can die but remain unbroken; demons certainly didn’t disappear completely.
Moreover, countless issues remained from the war, and even standing on moral grounds, humans couldn’t truly exterminate those mixed-bloods who weren’t born out of their own will.
Spike Leon was one such mixed-blood.
But his mixed blood wasn’t physical.
His mother was attacked by a “Mind Demon” before giving birth to him, implanting a demonic seed in her soul.
Then, during childbirth, that demonic seed strangely transferred to Spike Leon’s soul.
When that demonic seed took root, a demon would spawn in Spike Leon’s mind, transforming him into a “Mind Demon!”
Thus, physically, Spike Leon belonged to the pure beast race, but spiritually, he was already eroded by demons.
He was an extremely rare “Soul Mixed-Blood!”
Fortunately, Spike Leon was merely the thirty-eighth prince, with only the most basic privileges.
But unless the first thirty-seven princes died, rendering his inheritance useless, he would be declared dead once the demonic seed was discovered.
Even so, he suffered discrimination and endured bullying from those who knew his secret.
Yet, because he was just the thirty-eighth prince, no one wanted to spend great effort to remove the demonic seed from his soul.
His mother could only manage to freeze half of his soul and send him to Saint Maryann Academy, historically known for its tolerance toward mixed-bloods.
Being a demon and being a demon among magic golems are two different concepts.
Spike Leon rarely enjoyed the peace of academy life and did not want to destroy it.
…
“Leave for now.”
After sending Spike back to his cubicle, Professor Kazel calmly recounted what he had seen.
“Half of his soul is a ‘Mind Demon’?”
Professor Shylph frowned and asked, “Kazel, do you have any solutions?”
Kazel shook his head, saying, “If it happened right after he was born, I might have been able to remove the demonic seed, but it’s too late now. His mind has already been half corrupted by the demonic seed, turning him into a ‘Mind Demon.’
Freezing his mind is only a temporary measure; the ‘Mind Demon’ will eventually break free. If we forcibly cut it out, he’ll become a vegetable.”
Shylph’s frown deepened further, “So, Spike Leon might be the best breeding ground for demons?”
“Perhaps.” Kazel was noncommittal.
He had another thought in his mind but did not express it.
“If the ‘Mind Demon’ spreading the demonic seeds happens to be one of the Demon King’s rebirth containers, could those seeds also serve as a container for the Demon King’s rebirth?”
Dark broke the silence.
Kazel sighed, “Though we don’t fully understand the mechanism of the Demon King’s resurrection, theoretically, it’s possible. There have been cases where the Demon King revived through the descendants of containers. This indicates the trait is inheritable.”
“That’s quite troublesome,” Dark remarked.
The Demon King hadn’t died.
Everyone present knew this fact.
However, they were relatively optimistic about the Demon King’s resurrection.
After all, compared to the threat of the gods’ resurgence, a mere Demon King was trivial.
But for the person chosen as a container, this wasn’t a topic for amusement.
Spike Leon seemed like someone随时可能被选为容器的那种人。
“Kazel,” Professor Shylph asked, “Can we confirm if he’s been chosen?”
If the Demon King was sane, he wouldn’t choose a half-frozen beast prince.
But theoretically, the Demon King’s mind was already compromised, and the probability of random selection was high.
Therefore, even if the Demon King resurrected in a fool, it wasn’t impossible.
Shylph, despite knowing the low probability, asked for assurance.
However, Professor Kazel shook his head again, “That requires lifting his mental seal.”
Dark agreed, “At least, we can rule out the possibility that he’s a ‘Breeder,’ right?”
“True,” Kazel smiled helplessly, “after all, he is sealed.”
Professor Shylph frowned and said, “Let’s discuss Spike Leon’s situation later. Next one.”
…
When Julie Zephyria was summoned, she kept her head down, fitting her slender figure, making her seem fragile and vulnerable.
To sum up, regardless of other things, her acting skills were impeccable.
Dark had taught the first year for quite some time but never saw through her true nature.
“Julie Zephyria, sit down first.”
Julie Zephyria sat down cautiously.
Unaware that she had been seen through, she continued to perform wholeheartedly.
As professors, whether it was Kazel or Dark, neither found it particularly interesting to expose her directly.
Julie Zephyria had neatly combed bangs, long chestnut hair, and hairbands on both sides of her face, making her cheeks round but quite cute.
After further observation, Professor Kazel suddenly asked, “Zephyria, who is your teacher?”
Julie Zephyria’s eyelashes trembled slightly, her fists clenched due to nervousness. Then she softly reported the names of the first-year professors.
Professor Kazel tapped the table lightly, interrupting her, “You should know what I mean.”
Julie Zephyria secretly glanced up at Dark Demon, then finally said, “If you’re referring to校外老师, I am a student of the ‘Hidden Hand.'”
“The Hidden Hand? His student? No wonder…” Professor Kazel withdrew his gaze.
Professor Shylph asked, “Do you have any proof?”
Julie Zephyria had to perform a “disappearing act” in front of all the professors.
After she left, Dark asked curiously, “Who is the ‘Hidden Hand?'”
Professor Kazel explained, “A very famous thief during the war. His stealth techniques are unparalleled among humans, and no one has seen through his tricks. It’s surprising that a thief’s student would be assigned to the Knight Academy.”
“A thief needs both courage and meticulousness,” Professor Shylph added.
Professor Kazel smiled but did not continue.
In fact, Julie Zephyria deliberately narrowed her thoughts when answering questions.
She might have more secrets hidden.
…
After a while, the third key figure, second-year Wit Gold, finally came forward from the cubicle.
The expressions of Professor Kazel and Professor Shylph became solemn.
Wit Gold was a highly significant individual.
Not only was he the son of a hero, but he also possessed genuine “Demon King’s blood!”
Ophelia Brad, the “Blood Princess,” was initially embraced by the Demon King, her body infused with his blood, making her own bloodline impure.
Children born from such unions naturally inherited this impurity.
Following this logic, Ophelia Brad, upon being embraced by the Demon King, became one of his containers.
Her child, naturally, would also become a container.
Dark listed Wit Gold as a key figure based on these considerations.
Additionally, according to the original work of “Harry Potter,” the protagonist Harry Potter was both an opponent and a horcrux of the dark lord.
This made the deduction fit.
Therefore, even if Wit Gold suddenly woke up and declared himself the Demon King, Dark would not be surprised.
Of course, the likelihood of this happening was very low.
If the Demon King were rational, he wouldn’t choose the body of a hero’s child as a container.
Because in this world, the hero’s bloodline truly restrains the Demon King.
Unless the Demon King’s mind was compromised.
…
Wit Gold sat down, looking ahead.
Unlike before, when only Dark was seated, the presence of Professor Kazel and Professor Shylph made him feel immense pressure.
The fact that he entered the second round of re-examination also indicated that he had issues.
He felt uneasy, experiencing a slight sense of tension.
“Wit Gold.”
Professor Kazel, sitting in the middle, slowly said after calling his name, “Do you know why you were called here?”
Wit Gold’s neck stiffened, shaking his head slowly, “No.”
Professor Kazel’s eyes glinted with golden light, akin to the “Goddess of Heartful Eyes,” seeing the mist enveloping Wit Gold’s mind.
But that thin mist couldn’t shield his sight.
He spoke slightly sternly, “You really have no clue?”
Wit Gold had to shake his head again, hard.
He genuinely had no idea why he was selected for the second round, feeling bewildered.
“It seems you really don’t know.” Professor Kazel took a deep breath and said, “You can go back.”
Thus, Wit Gold came in confused and left equally confused, taking away nothing but confusion.
…
Frankly speaking, Dark was also somewhat puzzled.
Once Wit Gold left, Dark whispered, “Professor Kazel, did you notice anything?”
Professor Kazel turned to Professor Shylph and nodded slightly.
Professor Shylph immediately understood, her fingers gently moving, creating a stronger barrier within the cubicle.
Professor Lily, who was drowsy, suddenly snapped awake, “Lily smells melon fields!”
Professor Shylph glared at her, “Kazel, you can speak now.”
Professor Kazel then said solemnly, “Regarding what Dark mentioned earlier, the mist covering Wit Gold’s mind is merely a disguise.”
“Hmm?” The “Goddess of Heartful Eyes” turned abruptly, showing displeasure.
Professor Kazel continued, “Underneath that mist, Wit Gold’s mind… has been penetrated by darkness.”
Dark immediately said, “Is it the Demon King?”
Professor Kazel replied in a low voice, “It could be, but it could also be something of a higher level.”
Dark’s pupils contracted slightly, feeling surprised.
Professor Kazel said, “What puzzles me is that his mind isn’t dominated. It’s as if a pure dark attribute force awakened within him. Although it affects his consciousness, it hasn’t reached the point of demonic transformation.”
Professor Shylph frowned, “So, is it good or bad?”
“It’s a mix,” Professor Kazel said, “We might need to consult Ophelia Brad about this.”
Hearing this, Dark was filled with doubts.
If he were told directly that the Demon King was reborn in Wit Gold, he wouldn’t be this curious.
But now, he couldn’t control his desire to dig into the mystery.
“So, does Wit’s basic understanding of the ‘Brain Fluid Demon’ come from the influence of that dark attribute force?
Since there is no domination and no invasion, he only knows surface-level information?”
…
This investigation had led them to notice many things they hadn’t before, but they hadn’t yet achieved their initial goal.
After questioning several spies, they finally reached the fourth-year student, Cameron Macefield.
Cameron Macefield possessed extremely advanced mental magic, and his mental fluctuations were intense when Professor Kazel mentioned that Fern Morse might turn into a fool due to the “Brain Fluid Demon.”
Thus, he was likely involved.
After he was summoned, Professor Kazel questioned him further.
Dark listened carefully and noticed that Cameron Macefield was unfamiliar with Fern Morse.
The reason he felt excited about Fern Morse potentially becoming a fool was because he knew about the “Brain Fluid Demon” and how it came to be!
Under Professor Kazel’s relentless questioning, Cameron Macefield finally couldn’t bear the mental torture and confessed his mistake.
“I picked up a book at the beginning of September,” he said regretfully.
“The book contained numerous special methods for cultivating demons, including the cultivation method for the ‘Brain Fluid Demon.'”
“To study the directed formulation of those special demons and create corresponding Mana Spirit Cards, I began attempting to cultivate them.”
