Chapter 686: Are You Taking a Wife?
Qin Shili, an ice-cold beauty, was hard to approach, but she showed no restraint in front of Lin Nuo; if she wanted to get closer, she would, and if she wanted to kiss, she would do that too.
Before Lin Nuo could finish his sentence, she leaned in and pressed her lips against his, silencing him completely.
Caught off guard, he had no defenses.
Qin Shili’s alluring lips were icy; Lin Nuo felt like he could barely handle it. With those lips so cold, he worried he might turn into an ice sculpture.
He instinctively pulled back, putting some distance between them, while gently touching his now cold lips.
“What’s wrong? You seem to be resisting. It’s been a while since we last met; do you hate me now?”
Qin Shili’s cold words mixed with complaints, reminiscent of a couple that hadn’t seen each other for ages. The wife, eager to rekindle their romance, is dashed to find her husband so indifferent, and understandably feels a bit miffed.
“Sis, you don’t realize your beautiful lips are freezing! I can’t handle it okay?”
“You’re just making excuses. With your abilities, how could you possibly fear the cold? If you want to say it, go right ahead; I won’t force you. You can just let me fend for myself.”
“You could just warm it up a bit! At least make it bearable. I’m here thanks to my fire talismans; you’re trying to freeze me right here!”
Lin Nuo complained, noting that her stunning face and captivating lips were just a tad too cold for comfort, making him feel like he’d freeze up altogether.
They say a rose has thorns; with you, it’s more like a knife—one touch and it’s game over!
“Alright, I’ll give it a try.”
Qin Shili adjusted her spiritual technique, attempting to raise her body temperature, which was something she could manage.
Soon, her body warmth increased, and her lips were no longer icy.
“Is it better now? So why are you still sitting so far away? You really do want to keep your distance from me, huh?”
“Sis, if I wanted to keep my distance, I wouldn’t have come over in the first place; it’s just one step away.”
Lin Nuo retorted, having only moved a step back from her previously. She was now complaining again, clearly wanting to make a point.
Oh well, time to move back.
Lin Nuo shook himself and shifted back next to Qin Shili.
I must admit, being closer to Qin Shili did feel a bit warmer; it was certainly better than the icy experience earlier.
Why didn’t we just do this from the start?
Qin Shili lightly tossed aside her silver hair and leaned closer to Lin Nuo, descending to kiss him again.
Her gentle lips felt slightly cool, akin to savoring a refreshing drink, delightful.
Qin Shili began to embrace Lin Nuo, a subtle fragrance of plum blossoms wafting through the chilly air. Lin Nuo felt no resistance; he even returned the embrace.
Her body felt warmer now, relieving the strain on his fire talismans, reducing their energy consumption.
Of course, as a man, it wasn’t unreasonable to embrace a beautiful girl who was throwing herself at him. After all, he once longed for her, and he still held a fondness for her.
After they shared a tender moment, Lin Nuo finally pulled away from her lips, but Qin Shili seemed unsatisfied and pulled him in for another kiss, which lasted for over ten minutes.
“Alright, enough already.”
Lin Nuo leaned back a bit, raising a hand to stop her. A refreshing drink is great, but moderation is key; drowning in it could spell trouble!
“Now tell me what’s going on with you. I’ll try to brainstorm a way to help you.”
“Alright.”
Qin Shili nodded, hesitating for a moment before continuing:
“I’ve been diligently following your advice to cultivate my Demon Power. But just as you mentioned, my original cultivation was suppressing my ability with Demon Power, making progress painfully slow. We’re talking about basic Demon Power; you can’t even begin to imagine the middle-tier stuff. I’ve been cultivating in secret, but one day, I ran into a witch.”
“A witch?”
Upon hearing this, Lin Nuo began to piece things together.
Witches were typically anti-human beings, often bursting with creativity and coming up with badly twisted spirit techniques. Ancient witchcraft was notorious for its terrifying power.
“He used witchcraft on you?”
“Yes. But before that, it seemed he knew my thoughts as he asked if I desired to elevate my Demon Power.”
“So you said yes?”
“I didn’t answer him; he only smiled and said something about how it was fate and how the future belonged to the Demon Path, that there’s no shame in having desire for it. Then he used his witchcraft. I could tell he wasn’t just any witch but also a Demon Practitioner, and that witchcraft was infused with Demon Qi. I knew it was sinister, but at that moment, I couldn’t escape.”
“Quickly, you couldn’t avoid it?” Lin Nuo asked.
“Not really. It felt like he was grasping my inner thoughts. When the witchcraft appeared, it seemed to call out to my innermost desires, stirring my pursuit of Demon Power. At that moment, I nearly forgot I was a practitioner and felt more like a Demon Practitioner instead. Thus, I fell under the witchcraft’s influence.”
Qin Shili explained, while Lin Nuo stroked his chin, pondering how crafty this witch was. It reminded him of a cult leader; you can’t avoid getting roped in.
But the idea of the future being ruled by the Demon Path—was that overconfidence or did he have some method to predict it?
Mixing Demon Power and witchcraft to create chaos? He recalled a specific individual who was expelled from the Refining Demon Sect.
“So your Demon Power was activated, and that’s how you ended up like this?”
“Yes, I thought if I could suppress it, I’d find a way in Ziyuan Mountain. I attempted to control it, but it spiraled further out of control. I couldn’t contain it, power overflowed, and ice surged forth. As you can see, the entire Ziyuan Mountain has turned into an ice mountain, attracting cultivators from all over.”
Qin Shili clarified, and Lin Nuo had a clearer idea now—it was external forces at work.
He asked, “What about your cousin Qin Dao?”
“Why the sudden interest in him? Do you know something?”
Qin Shili was stunned; she hadn’t even mentioned her cousin yet, and Lin Nuo seemed to have brought it up out of the blue.
“Just spill it; don’t mind my business.” Lin Nuo replied.
“He knows about my situation and talked to me, claiming to understand and could assist me in suppressing the hidden Demon Qi, but I’d have to ally with him; join forces. I refused him. I know his true nature—he was originally a martial practitioner but is the weakest among our peers. Yet in recent years, he’s been using cunning tactics to build up power; he’s no paragon of virtue, and I find him repulsive.”
“Honestly, I’m no paragon myself.”
“Oh really? You’re quite virtuous. Everything you do is lauded and praised by everyone; you’re a role model and an example of righteousness.”
Lin Nuo: “…”
Goodness, can you just insult someone so smoothly? I shouldn’t have brought myself up.
Clearing his throat, Lin Nuo continued, “Qin Dao really isn’t any paragon of virtue. To be honest, your Qin family still has its own hidden agendas, not much better than the Lin family. I’ve stepped back from that cursed Lin family.”
“You retreat and can stand on your own. I can’t. But if you take me in, I can step back. I can take the surname Lin; it doesn’t matter.”
“Forget it; I’m not taking any little sisters or big sisters.” Lin Nuo shrugged.
“Then how about a wife?”
“If you marry in, you don’t even change your surname.”
“Then I won’t change it; suit yourself,” Qin Shili responded indifferently.
