Chapter 69: Killing Time with a Quest
While Yake and Aierjisi were still enjoying their afternoon tea, a plump little dove suddenly flew down and landed on the table.
“Wow, this dove is so fat! How about we take it home and roast it?”
Seeing that the dove was quite meaty, Yake reached out his hand, ready to catch it.
“Yake, wait a minute! This isn’t just an ordinary dove.”
Aierjisi waved her hand to stop Yake and reached over to detach a letter tied to the bird’s leg.
“A carrier pigeon… Let’s see what it says.”
Aierjisi opened the letter she had just gotten and looked through its content.
“Hey, Aier, what does it say?”
Yake tightly clasped the fluffy dove, leaning in curiously to see the letter. Unfortunately… he couldn’t decipher the words at all. It seemed to use a script from another race. Judging by the little princess’s ability to understand it, it appeared to be the writing used by the Blood Clan.
“Not much written here. Just that Teacher Aisi says dinner is ready, and we can head back anytime for his feast.”
Aierjisi crumpled the letter into a ball and casually tossed it into a small flame. The message had been delivered, so the letter had outlived its purpose.
“So when are we going back?”
Since Aisi had already indicated they could return whenever, Yake naturally wanted to head back sooner.
“If you want to go back, you can. I still want to wander around the town a bit longer.”
Contrary to Yake’s desire to return, Aierjisi wasn’t ready to go home just yet. She wanted to continue having fun in this town that she hadn’t fully familiarized herself with.
“Uh… never mind then, I’ll stay and keep you company. There’s nothing to do at home anyway.”
Seeing the little princess didn’t want to go home yet, Yake couldn’t bring himself to say he wanted to leave. Besides… Xier had called him earlier, and if he wanted to increase his favorability, he needed to take good care of the little princess during their daily lives.
“Alright then. If you want to stay here, that’s fine. Though honestly, this place is pretty boring.”
Aierjisi kicked her legs up on the table, looking around with dissatisfaction. How to put it… While there were hamburgers, fried chicken, coffee shops, colas, and chips—similar to those in the real world—those were about the only things available. There weren’t any phones, computers, or tablets for entertainment. The only form of entertainment Aierjisi had were her books during that time.
【Ah, I really wanna go home and play games. Even though I’m technically in a game world right now.】
Aierjisi gazed up at the sky with boredom. Being forced into a plot mode and having to follow the story wasn’t particularly enjoyable.
“Yake. You’re familiar with this town, right?”
“Uh? I guess so. I did grow up here, so I know most places, except for a few I haven’t been to.”
“Then let me ask you, do you know of any fun places in this town? I’m feeling so bored right now. Shopping and eating can be skipped, I just want to find something entertaining, like an amusement park or something.”
Aierjisi leaned on the table. After all, Yake was her servant now; she might as well get some use out of him.
“An amusement park? What’s that? If you’re looking for fun or interesting places, I don’t think there are any. This is just a small town after all.”
Yake thought carefully. It seemed that there were no exciting or interesting places in this little town that would amuse the little princess. If they could go to Augustus nearby, the industrial city would definitely have many intriguing products that might interest her.
“Ugh, this town is really too lame.”
Aierjisi could only complain in frustration. Yake could only smile bitterly at that. It couldn’t be helped; this was just a small town located on the outskirts, not a capital or a bustling commercial city.
“Well, since we can’t find anything interesting, let’s just go home. Perfect timing, I could use a nap to help pass this boring time.”
Feeling lost in finding something enjoyable, Aierjisi thought maybe they should just head back.
“Alright then, let’s go home.”
“Wait…”
Just as Yake thought he and the little princess had come to a mutual decision to go home, she suddenly changed her mind.
“What is it, Aier?”
“Hold on a sec.”
Aierjisi started rummaging through her belongings. During this time, she seemed to have taken care of something called an Adventurer Qualification Certificate.
“Oh, here it is! I thought I lost it in subspace.”
After searching herself for a bit, Aierjisi finally found the small badge.
“Adventurer Qualification Certificate? Aier, you aren’t thinking…”
Seeing the little princess pull out the badge, Yake immediately understood what she had in mind.
“Bingo! As expected of my servant, you’re so clever! Now that we have nothing to do, let’s go pick up a quest!”
Aierjisi smiled. In games, once the main quest was completed, players could choose to take on side quests for experience points or rich rewards. Unable to advance the main story now, Aierjisi decided to pick up some quests to pass the boring afternoon time.
“No way, Aier. Have you forgotten your identity? Since we’re in town, they won’t attack us, but if we take a quest, we’d have to go outside and deal with monsters. Do you know what that means?”
Yake lowered his voice, quietly reminding the little princess not to forget her current identity. Those Adrian People were still watching her!
“Aw, I know that! But don’t worry, I won’t get overly excited this time. If we encounter them, we’ll retreat immediately. So, what do you say? Are you going or not? If you’re not, I’ll just go alone.”
“Sigh. Well, I suppose I have no choice but to follow you.”
Yake nodded helplessly. Now, as the little princess’s servant, he had to fight alongside her in whatever battles she took on.
