Chapter 696: It’s All a Lie
Things were getting worse; Qin Shili just couldn’t pick her moments to drop a bombshell.
If this went on, we might as well be discussing children, and I’d suddenly become a stepdad.
Everyone’s eyes turned to Lin Nuo—this mess was all his to clean up.
As Su Lingjiang, Su Kexin’s father, was already furious, this son-in-law had been an absolute scoundrel, cheating on his wife with other girls. It was simply beastly.
It was infuriating; I felt the urge to take a swing at him, especially for my daughter’s sake.
“Son-in-law, you better explain today. A real man stands up for what he does,” Su Lingjiang roared.
Lin Nuo crossed his arms and frowned, appearing as steady as a rock on the surface.
He took a moment to cough, building up his tone and emotion before raising his voice:
“Have you all finished? What nonsense, it’s all a lie, every word of it!”
“A lie? What do you mean—it’s a lie, Junior Martial Brother?” Liu Shuqin quickly asked, after all, Su Kexin and Qin Shili had some unusual events with Lin Nuo, while she had none.
Well, the only thing slightly too much was in her dreams, but it wasn’t like it turned into a done deal like with Qin Shili and Su Kexin. She certainly hoped it was fake.
“What they just said—one’s married, one’s sullied—none of that is true.”
Truth and lies, lies and truth; there was no marriage, and as for the ‘sullied’ part—that was saving someone! Can you even call it sullied? Besides, Qin Shili was more aggressive; who was sullied by whom?
“What? No? A lie? Is that right!” Liu Shuqin secretly delighted—wow, so it was false after all!
“Ah, Senior Brother, no, my husband! You’re joking again, right? It’s obviously true; how can you say it’s a lie? Haha, you really can crack jokes!”
“Enough already. Let’s not keep this under wraps; if you do, your father might just want to chop my head off.”
Lin Nuo replied nonchalantly. This had to be cleared up today, or word would spread back to Xuanyun Sect, and that wouldn’t be good. Everyone would know.
Su Kexin wanted to cover Lin Nuo’s mouth to stop him from speaking, but he pushed her aside with one hand.
“Just to comfort the elderly in Su Family Village and pretend to be a couple with Su Kexin. Su Lingjiang, since you’re here, I’ll clear it up for you, so don’t bother me anymore.”
“Fake couple? Kexin, is this true?” Su Lingjiang found it hard to believe; before this incident, he thought Lin Nuo was an excellent son-in-law.
Hearing it was fake was a sudden shock.
“Umm… well…” Su Kexin hesitated, clearly reluctant to admit it.
Ugh, it was all their fault for causing chaos; otherwise, Senior Brother wouldn’t have to admit to anything!
“Sort of, I guess…”
“Then…”
Su Lingjiang fell silent. If he wasn’t a son-in-law and had just condemned him, it was quite embarrassing.
Awkward, utterly mortifying.
“Kexin, you should have told me sooner. Let’s be honest, making a fuss about this business… it’s not good for your son-in-law… uh, I mean, little brother.”
“Umm… I was planning to tell you later. If someday I do end up as Senior Brother’s wife, then I won’t need to say anything! Ah, right now it’s fake, but who knows about the future? Maybe it will become real!”
Su Kexin cheekily stuck out her tongue. If they were to become a couple, she wouldn’t need to say anything.
“Oh, so it’s a lie? I see. Well, to be fair, you guys do lack the vibe of a married couple; I didn’t believe it either,” Qin Shili said coldly.
Lin Nuo shot her a glance. Didn’t you just act like you didn’t believe it? You almost seemed ready to explode with anger!
“The sullied thing that Second Martial Sister mentioned is a lie; please don’t spout nonsense.”
“The sullied part is indeed fake; it’s not sullied—it’s mutual affection. After all, we…”
“Alright, alright, just stop talking!”
Lin Nuo hurriedly interrupted her. This “Harmony Technique” shouldn’t be thrown around carelessly; the Xuanyun Sect monks shouldn’t mess with it, and let’s not even get started on the demonic practices. It was a straight ticket to the blacklist.
You think this is just about enjoying life? That’s a stretch; it was obviously about cultivation, not just casual fun—gotta be strict about these things!
“Ha.”
Qin Shili scoffed, not pushing further.
Indeed, you shouldn’t talk carelessly about the Harmony Technique, and the same goes for demonic cultivation. It wasn’t good for either of them.
With Su Lingjiang looking all righteous and similar to his daughter, Su Kexin, he couldn’t tolerate demons among them; if word gets out to Xuanyun Sect, that would be bad!
Fine, as long as he knows Su Kexin and Lin Nuo are a fake couple, then she had already won—totally and utterly. They couldn’t compete with her.
What really gnawed at her was that Lin Nuo’s first time went to his maid, while hers was still untouched. Losing to a maid was somewhat hard to accept.
That maid didn’t have a name or status; she only needed to fight for a title.
“Turns out it was all a misunderstanding! Hey, everyone, just forget it ever happened. I just caught prey and was about to roast it. Uncle, Kexin, why don’t you join me?” Liu Shuqin quickly shifted the topic to break the tension.
“Sorry, I can’t stay. Little brother, I have something to discuss with you privately; is that convenient?”
“Sure.”
Lin Nuo didn’t reject the invitation and walked aside with the one named Su.
Leaving behind the three girls, glaring at each other—while they were all fellow disciples, they were also rivals, bringing some tension into the air.
“Second Martial Sister, please stop talking carelessly; it could lead to misunderstandings. You’re sullying Senior Brother’s reputation!” Su Kexin scolded Qin Shili.
“You’re his nominal wife and sullying his reputation even more, aren’t you?”
“How am I sullying him? I’m sharing the Phoenix Twin Swords with him; if we became a couple, it wouldn’t be strange; it’s weird if we don’t!”
“You’ve got a bit too much confidence there; why do you assume you’re sharing the Phoenix Twin Swords? It’s likely because you’re close in cultivation level and similar in constitution. You’re just assisting him in training.”
Qin Shili shot back. She often quarreled with Su Kexin; their elemental roots were incompatible, and because of Lin Nuo, it was getting even fiercer.
“Even so, I can assist him, but you can’t.”
“Ha, just fooling yourself.”
“Shili, Kexin, please let’s just tone it down. We’re all fellow disciples and should live in harmony. Kexin, do you… like Junior Martial Brother?”
“What?!”
Su Kexin covered her slightly flushed face, feeling a bit shy, murmuring:
“Senior Sister, you can’t be asking that for real… It’s definitely true!”
“Uh-huh…”
Though Liu Shuqin had noticed before, hearing Su Kexin affirm it still tugged at her heart.
Of the four in their sect, three liked Lin Nuo—this relationship had become too tense.
“Alright, another one has spoken up,” Qin Shili said coldly.
“Another? Who else?”
“Ha.”
Qin Shili didn’t reply but shot Su Kexin a knowing glance, urging her to figure it out.
Su Kexin was slow on the uptake, looking around as if trying to understand.
“Could it be Senior Sister, you…”
“Kexin, no matter what, we’re all fellow sisters; we should get along. Junior Martial Brother wouldn’t want to see us turn against each other.”
Liu Shuqin smiled.
