Seventh Squad
In the night of Wokan Town, a circle of policemen surrounded the police station’s entrance. They all looked at the body lying on the ground with unease, while the scared sentry who had been on duty was vividly recounting the horrifying scene to his companions, spreading a faint sense of panic among them.
At a street corner quite a distance from the police station, Dorothy was watching the situation at the police station entrance and quietly turned to leave.
Everything had been arranged, and now they just needed to wait for each side to act according to their plans.
From the letter obtained from Edric, Dorothy learned about the contact information of the mysterious organization that dispatched personnel in Wokan. According to their agreement in the letter, after Edric succeeded, he only needed to put Dorothy’s photo in the mailbox at No. 24 North Street in Wokan. Then the dispatched agent of the mysterious organization in Wokan would meet Edric in the western woods of Wokan the next night as per the arrangement.
At that time, they would exchange goods and people; the mysterious organization would get Dorothy, and Edric would receive the reward said to allow him to enter the so-called “extraordinary realm.”
Now, Edric was already dead, but this news was known only by Dorothy. Even the locals in Wokan hadn’t yet discovered the d*ath of their local boss, let alone the outsiders dispatched by the mysterious organization.
Leveraging this point, Dorothy, originally the target of kidnapping, took a photo of herself and sent it to the designated location, confirming no one knew she was in trouble.
To ensure the photography studio wasn’t a base for those dispatched agents, Dorothy specifically investigated when the studio opened in Wokan. From the letter, it was clear that the mysterious organization had little influence in Wokan before contacting Edric, so a photography studio operating for nearly ten years couldn’t possibly be related to that organization.
Even when sending the letter, Dorothy took extra precautions by having someone else deliver it.
So far, Dorothy had been very cautious in every step.
After obtaining the photo from the mailbox, the organization members hiding in Wokan would be lured out and go to the “transaction site” in the western woods of Wokan the next night.
Of course, this didn’t mean Dorothy wanted a direct confrontation with the other party. The number of people on the other side was unknown, and they might have extraordinary abilities. It was too dangerous for a thirteen-year-old girl to face them alone, even if she brought two zombie puppets to set traps.
Thus, Dorothy’s strategy was that professional matters should be handled by professionals.
She thought of the two organizations mentioned in the letters between Edric and the mysterious organization—the Hidden Security Bureau and the Church…
From the content of the letters, it was evident that the mysterious organization clearly feared the Hidden Security Bureau and the Church, or perhaps were directly in an adversarial relationship!
The enemy of my enemy is my ally. Since the mysterious organization feared the Hidden Security Bureau and the Church, Dorothy could try leaking key intelligence to them, driving a wolf to eat another wolf…
Between choosing the Church and the Hidden Security Bureau, she chose the Hidden Security Bureau because the guys in the letters had mentioned that there were search teams of the An Yin Bureau around Wokan…
The next challenge was how to contact this so-called An Yin Bureau. In Dorothy’s original memory, she had never heard of such an organization, let alone its contact details.
Dorothy judged that the An Yin Bureau seemed to be a government department, likely a specialized agency under national power to handle extraordinary events. As long as it was a government institution, it would be easier to deal with.
If Dorothy couldn’t contact the An Yin Bureau, then other government departments should have corresponding channels.
Therefore, Dorothy forged a reply letter from the mysterious organization to Edric, including all key information, and had a zombie puppet deliver it directly to the police station entrance.
Then, Dorothy just needed to wait for the Wokan police to notify the An Yin Bureau, and for the search team to find the letter on the zombie puppet…
“Now, we just need to wait until tomorrow night…”
Walking down the deserted street, Dorothy looked up at the bright moon in the sky and muttered to herself.
“So, there are still some preparations needed…”
Quickening her pace, Dorothy disappeared into the darkness. She didn’t want to be just a passive observer for tomorrow’s show.
…
As the night deepened, the lights on the streets of Wokan gradually diminished. Gradually, except for the sparse street lamps, there were almost no flickering lights left, and the dense night covered the streets of Wokan.
In the police station of Wokan, the lights were still flickering, but unlike before, there was no policeman at the entrance.
A lifeless corpse lay cold on the ground, with a grotesque smile frozen on its face. Beside the corpse stood two figures, neither of whom were policemen.
In the cold wind of the night, the uniformed figures stood tall in front of the police station. They all wore black double-breasted suit-like tuxedos, with tight upper bodies, collars raised, and coats reaching to their knees. Each wore gloves, and a black derby hat covered their heads, with their faces hidden behind lifeless, expressionless iron masks.
These all-black-clad people circled the body, carefully examining it.
Meanwhile, inside the police station, all the policemen had vanished. In the chief’s office, a figure sat in the chief’s chair.
This figure wore the same outfit as the black-clad figures outside, with feet propped up on the chief’s desk, the mask discarded on top of a cabinet, and the hat covering the face, giving the impression of taking a short rest.
On the other side of the chief’s office, another figure stood in front of a map of Wokan, also wearing the same black uniform. The fitted upper body revealed clear curves at the chest and waist, indicating this was a woman.
The female black-clad figure scanned the police station’s map, occasionally flipping through files, seemingly searching and pondering. Suddenly, she seemed to have made a discovery and turned to look at her colleague sitting in the chief’s seat.
“Hey, Gregor, there’s…”
When she saw the man in the chief’s seat, the female black-clad figure was startled and suddenly raised her voice sternly.
“Captain Gregor! This is working hours!”
Startled by the raised voice of the female black-clad figure, the man who was resting suddenly woke up, his whole body trembling, and his hat fell to the ground.
“Mm… I said, Elena, lower your voice, we’re investigating…”
The man quickly put his feet down from the desk and immediately picked up the hat from the ground, placing it back on his head.
Sitting in the chief’s seat, the man named Gregor was a young man with chestnut hair, brown eyes, a high nose, and deep-set features. His handsome appearance was slightly marred by a lingering sense of weariness, but this couldn’t hide the determination emanating from his brow.
“You still remember you’re working? You seem like you’re about to fall asleep. This state isn’t good, Captain…”
Standing in front of the desk, still masked, the woman named Elena said sharply, while Gregor scratched his head helplessly.
“Aah… There’s no other way… Originally, I was supposed to return to Igewent tomorrow, but suddenly got this case that requires overtime. Now, I’m a bit frustrated, and I have important things to do after I get back…”
Gregor complained, and upon hearing his grievances, Elena paused slightly before saying.
“Yeah… Almost forgot, Captain Gregor’s sister is on her way. She’ll be arriving in Igewent soon. If you’re not there to pick her up, no one else will…”
