Chapter 733: Subscription Appeal
Restraint Device
Professor Steven Harvey’s room was excessively clean, and this particular room used for experiments gave off a modern operating room feel, starkly contrasting with the outside environment.
Sister Carrian, under his instructions, moved Wit Gold’s body onto the pristine white experimental table. With a flick of her fingers, she condensed mana into a blade-like shape and carefully cut through the wind cocoon enveloping Wit Gold.
The wind threads snapped one by one, revealing Wit Gold’s body.
Professor Steven Harvey glanced at the three long needles pinning his magical meridians and then looked at the invisible nail piercing his soul, marveling, “Impressive technique.”
“Professor Harvey, should we untie him?” Sister Carrian asked.
Steven Harvey casually pulled out a magic card and silently summoned a magical glove, saying, “Wait until I’m ready.”
No sooner had he spoken than he entered a state of concentration. First, he lightly tapped Wit Gold’s face, causing Wit Gold’s slightly trembling body to suddenly freeze, as if lifeless.
Then, he took out various magical tools and set them up on the experimental bed in conjunction with the magic card.
When Sister Carrian removed the anti-magic needle and the invisible nail, the corresponding magic circle lit up on the experimental bed, replacing the functions of the anti-magic needle and the invisible nail.
Although Professor Steven Harvey spoke interestingly, Wit Gold’s soul state was actually quite troublesome.
If the restraints were loosened and the second consciousness—the Demon King’s soul—were allowed to overlap with Wit Gold’s soul again, even Professor Steven Harvey would find it difficult to separate them intact.
Fortunately, Dark and the others had successfully lured out the Demon King’s soul, saving them considerable trouble.
However, the detailed examination that followed remained very tedious.
After half an hour, Professor Steven Harvey finally raised his hand, sighing, “I’ve seen many things, but this…”
Dark watched Professor Steven Harvey’s operation from beginning to end. Although he didn’t understand it clearly, he still asked, “What’s going on?”
Ophelia Brad also said nervously, “Professor Harvey…”
Professor Steven Harvey shook his head, “Even I, a necromancer, have never seen such a case before.”
Among the three who entered, only Sister Carrian could understand part of it, so she couldn’t help frowning, “This demon…the second consciousness’s soul actually grew out of Wit Gold’s soul?”
Hearing this, Ophelia Brad immediately understood, her face turning pale, and she exclaimed in astonishment, “How is this possible?”
Dark Demon, not understanding, asked, “Wait, what’s going on?”
Professor Steven Harvey patiently explained, “At first, I thought it was another soul invading, parasitizing, or fusing, but the reality is different. You can imagine the second consciousness’s soul growing out of Wit Gold’s soul. Moreover, based on its growth trend, it should normally absorb Wit Gold’s soul power as nourishment, eventually drying it out and taking over. But it shouldn’t be like this. Though the form changes, the essence remains the same.”
Dark frowned slightly, finally sorting out his thoughts.
If we compare Wit Gold’s soul to a head, then the second consciousness’s soul is like a seed planted in the head. This seed absorbs the head’s power to take root and sprout, until it bursts out of the top, blooming flowers.
At that point, Wit Gold’s soul would be completely consumed, and the Demon King’s soul would “take over.”
Before that, they are intertwined with each other.
The difference is that under normal circumstances, the Demon King’s rebirth can only maintain one consciousness, whereas now it maintains two.
Additionally, even in the split Demon King’s soul, there is still part of Wit’s soul.
In short, the fusion between the Demon King’s soul and Wit’s soul is much stronger than Professor Steven Harvey initially felt!
If you cut away the part of the Demon King’s soul that has fused with Wit’s, you would also cut away a small portion of Wit’s soul.
Whatever happens to one will happen to the other!
…
“I can do it,” Professor Steven Harvey finally said after a while.
“But this level of soul cutting experiment requires not just skill, but time. It will be a very long process.”
Cutting, splitting, and bonding souls are fundamental skills for a necromancer.
Given enough time, even if the souls were fused into a paste, he could gradually separate them.
Though these bonded souls would become as fragile as glass when cut, if there was no other choice, that’s what had to be done.
“If…” Dark hesitated.
Professor Steven Harvey kindly said, “You can share your thoughts.”
Dark said, “Since the second consciousness’s soul can grow by consuming Wit’s soul, could we make Wit’s soul consume the second consciousness’s soul instead?”
Professor Steven Harvey nodded in approval, “That idea occurred to me too. But somehow, the second consciousness’s soul, which appeared later, seems to have a higher rank than Wit Gold’s soul. It’s hard to overcome it.”
Dark lowered his head in thought, “Is it really like this?”
But it did seem to be the only situation.
Compared to the Demon King, Wit Gold is essentially just a container. Despite various accidental factors leading to their current coexistence, it’s impossible for the container to reverse and consume the owner.
This might also explain why the Demon King’s soul seems to dominate Wit’s body more than Wit himself.
But this made it even harder!
“We need to discuss this,” Dark said.
…
They then left the room and discussed their conclusions with Professor Shylph and the others standing outside.
“As expected, it wasn’t smooth,” Professor Shylph glanced at Professor Metia, her eyes filled with reproach.
Professor Metia rolled her eyes and said, “Why are you looking at me? I only predicted.”
Professor Shylph turned to look at Ophelia Brad, saying, “If this situation is true, you may need to prepare yourself for the Demon King’s soul and Wit’s soul existing together forever.”
Ophelia Brad’s expression darkened like a stormy sea.
Sister Carrian comforted her, “Actually, all we need to do is seal away the Demon King’s part of the consciousness, right?”
Ophelia Brad slowly shook her head, “I know better than anyone how terrifying the Demon King is. It’s like a parasite. Sealing it isn’t enough; it must be completely removed.”
Professor Shylph frowned and said, “Then we’ll wait for Kazel.”
…
A moment later, Dark and the others re-entered the room. Professor Steven Harvey continued his thorough examination of Wit.
Without looking up, he asked, “Did you come to a conclusion?”
Dark said, “Professor, can we make a switch—a device to switch between the two consciousnesses at any time?”
Professor Steven Harvey replied, “It’s not difficult.”
Dark sighed in relief, “That’s good. Finally, when switching back to Wit’s consciousness, the second consciousness’s soul can be put to sleep.”
Professor Steven Harvey nodded, “Small problem.”
But then he looked up and said, “I have a request.”
Dark responded, “Sure, go ahead.”
Professor Steven Harvey’s smile grew wider, “Can I join in?”
…
This was a request to join in.
Professor Steven Harvey was extremely interested in Wit’s soul state and wanted to learn more about it.
Dark smiled, “I’ll ask Professor Shylph.”
Professor Steven Harvey said, “Good.”
Then Dark turned and left the room, returning after half a minute to say, “Professor Shylph said it’s okay.”
Professor Steven Harvey said smugly, “Of course. My reputation is always good. So, now can you tell me what this second consciousness is?”
Dark slowly nodded and said seriously, “It’s the Demon King.”
Professor Steven Harvey: “What?”
Dark repeated, “It’s the Demon King!”
“Oh.” Professor Steven Harvey’s hands trembled violently, almost dislocating Wit’s arm.
Of course, it was excitement, not fear.
He immediately exclaimed joyfully, “You mean this boy became a Demon King’s vessel? I knew it, I knew it…”
Then he turned sharply, excitedly asking, “So what about the Demon King’s soul? Is it related to the Easter incident?”
Dark glanced at Ophelia Brad and then recounted the details of the incident.
Professor Steven Harvey’s eyes sparkled as he rubbed his hands together, asking immediately, “There’s a Demon King here, and another one in the West?”
Dark replied, “It seems so.”
Professor Steven Harvey: “Then the Demon King in the West… I mean, its soul, surely we can take drastic measures, right?”
Dark chuckled, “It depends on the situation. After all, we’re just guessing its existence.”
“Don’t say anymore!” Professor Steven Harvey immediately said, “Remember to call me when we’re ready to leave! I haven’t moved my old bones for years, they’re getting rusty!”
As if to show his value, he added, “Just give me a Demon King’s soul to study, and I might figure out how to perfectly separate Wit’s soul from this Demon King’s soul.”
As he spoke, he couldn’t stop laughing, like a man who had been dry for years finding a toy to play with.
His expression was somewhat lecherous.
Dark looked at Wit, who seemed like a fish on a chopping block, and couldn’t help but worry for him.
Child, life might be tough after this, but you must stay strong.
You are the child of a hero, you can do it!
…
Professor Steven Harvey’s joining was undoubtedly a significant reinforcement.
And with this, the class composition after Christmas would be even more complete.
With such a formidable team, dealing with a mere Demon King shouldn’t be a problem, right?
Dark worriedly thought, then stepped out of the room.
At the same time, he regretfully thought, “Originally, I planned to visit the secret path after Christmas…”
This matter of searching for a new temple in the secret path kept being postponed, and now it had to be delayed further.
But plans often don’t keep up with changes. Hurrying into the secret path wouldn’t yield any results.
“The West is the territory of the demons, and the direction of Free City… Should I bring Aurora?”
“I wonder if there’s a chance to drop by the Temple of Sun and Moon in Free City…”
Thinking about it, Dark found himself becoming excited, so he quickly interrupted his thoughts to maintain his composure.
Outside the door, he continued talking with Professor Shylph and the others.
Inside the room, Professor Steven Harvey began making the “switch” under the assistance of Sister Carrian and the watchful eye of Ophelia.
…
Before dawn, Sister Carrian opened the door and invited everyone inside.
The crowd rushed in and sat down in the living room.
Dark walked into the lab and noticed that two small black metal boxes were attached to both sides of Wit Gold’s head. Black metal rings were tightly affixed to his neck and limbs, and there was also a metal box over his heart.
Wit Gold probably wouldn’t be able to sleep on his stomach for a while…
Professor Steven Harvey waved his hand at him, took off his gloves, and walked out of the lab. Then he magically produced three black metal boxes.
Each metal box had red and green buttons.
“Three switches, two spares. Red is for the Demon King, green is for Wit. Don’t mix them up.”
Professor Steven Harvey placed two switches on the table and kept the last one for himself.
“This one stays with me. Pressing the red button will switch the Demon King’s soul to the surface, and the restraint ring will activate, cutting off its mana flow. Injecting mana into the switch allows control over its limbs. At this point, Wit’s soul won’t be asleep.”
“And pressing the green button will switch to Wit’s soul, putting the Demon King’s soul to sleep, and the restraint ring won’t be effective.”
“Hmm, this is the request of the bloodline lady.”
Ophelia showed him a grateful expression.
Professor Shylph handed one of the remaining switches to her, saying, “This one is yours.”
Ophelia took the switch, sincerely saying, “Thank you!”
Professor Lily blinked her eyes and suddenly asked, “Shouldn’t we test it first?”
“Of course, we should test it,” Professor Shylph smiled and pressed the red button.
The Demon King, now awake, walked stiffly out of bed from the lab.
…
