Chapter 78: Relic of the Gods
“Ah, right! There’s one more thing I want to ask you about. Do you have any information regarding this pendant?”
Aierjisi held the pendant that Misty had entrusted to her before being sealed away.
This pendant concealed an extremely powerful force, that much was certain. She had once used the power within it to drive away Gilbaris. Unfortunately, it seemed she had lost consciousness at that moment and had no idea how she defeated him.
“This pendant, huh? Well… I actually thought you wouldn’t ask about it.”
Gabriel hadn’t anticipated Aierjisi would inquire about the pendant. He assumed this little princess was only interested in matters of daily life.
“Of course! After all, the power within this pendant is no ordinary thing. If I could master it, finishing this game would be a piece of cake!”
“I see. So players like you prioritize clearing the game over enjoying life in it. Since you sincerely asked, let me share the secret of that pendant.”
Gabriel paused dramatically before continuing.
“About that pendant, there’s really not much to say. It is not from this world but a relic dropped by a god from our celestial realm.”
“A relic dropped by a god from the celestial realm? I see. If the former owner of this pendant was a god, it makes sense for it to have powerful abilities.”
After listening to Gabriel’s explanation, Aierjisi understood the secret of the pendant.
“As for mastering the power within that pendant, that’s impossible.”
“Why not?”
“The force contained within can only be wielded by a god. Even an archangel like me cannot stabilize it, let alone you who are of a lower rank.”
“Tch. So that’s how it is. I thought I had gotten my hands on something amazing. After all, Misty told me this was my only chance to turn the tables.”
Recalling Misty’s words, Aierjisi couldn’t help but feel disappointed.
This pendant contained immense power, yet she couldn’t use it. That feeling truly upset her.
“Don’t lose heart so quickly. I said you can’t stabilize it, not that you can’t use that power.”
“Then how can we use this power? I remember I inadvertently activated it once and successfully scared off that Adrian person.”
“The answer is simple. The gods’ power responds to the wishes of the user. At that moment, you must have been wishing for something that made the divine power within the pendant reply to you.”
“Wishing? Now that you mention it, I do remember…”
Aierjisi recalled that she was thinking about how to save Teacher Aisi. If Gabriel wasn’t lying, it was indeed her heartfelt wish that elicited the divine power from the pendant.
“When your innermost wish reaches its peak, the power of the gods will respond, temporarily bestowing god-like strength upon you. But since you’re not gods, you can only use that power for a fleeting moment. Moreover, wielding such power will have severe side effects on both your mind and body. So, while this power can help you escape danger, you mustn’t become overly reliant on it.”
Gabriel continued explaining the strength of this power and the side effects for lowly beings like them.
“Well, isn’t that just lovely… Misty made it sound like I had a golden opportunity. A power that can only be used for a moment, and has side effects? How on earth am I supposed to turn the tables with that?”
Aierjisi looked at the pendant in her hand. She used to think it was an incredible item, but now it seemed it wasn’t as handy as she imagined. It could only boost her power to that of a god for an instant, and afterward, cause such a burden on her body and mind. If she wanted to use it in the future, she needed to be extremely cautious.
“Do you have any other questions? If you have something to ask, better do it quickly! The connection between the celestial realm and this world is very weak right now; it could cut off at any moment.”
Gabriel pressed Aierjisi, realizing their communication time was limited. If she had questions, now was the time to ask.
“Just one last question. Ailin has already been kidnapped by those Adrian people. Who else can we count on to fight against them?”
Aierjisi asked her final, most pressing question.
The Adrian people were formidable foes. Relying solely on the pendant’s power to battle them was a surefire way to lose. Hence, having reliable companions was essential.
“Well… good question. The only ally you could have had, Ailin, has now fallen into their hands. This situation is definitely dire for you. It’s only natural to want dependable companions.”
“Alright, enough with the chit-chat! Just tell me already! Don’t those angels always love to keep people in suspense?”
Aierjisi was really tired of talking in circles with this angel.
“Okay, okay. If you manage to team up with the king to rescue Ailin, then Ailin and the king will both join your side to fight those Adrian folks. Also… that Phoenix you mentioned to the City Lord will also become your ally. That’s about it.”
Hiss…
Hearing Gabriel’s words, Aierjisi gasped.
Things were looking absolutely dire. She had originally hoped to find the other five players to fight alongside her. But this angel just told her that the only allies available were the Ice Dragon and the Phoenix.
This meant the remaining three players had likely run into some trouble… leaving just herself and the other two. And who knows what was happening with Ailin?
Was this what they called a hellishly difficult start?
