Chapter 79

After leaving the C School Building, Joan and I made our way up the hill toward the dormitories and arrived at the split between the Boys’ Dormitory and the Girls’ Dormitory.

“Tsukasa, could you do me a favor and go get Andy? I went to the Boys’ Dormitory earlier, but I shouldn’t really be going there.”

That’s right…

I’ve never seen any girls around here beyond this point.

“Understood. I’ll go get him.”

With that, I nodded and headed up the hill toward the Boys’ Dormitory.

Once I reached the second floor, I stopped.

“Which room is Andy’s…?”

Hmmm…where was it again?

Scratching my head, I decided to head to Cedric’s room instead.

“Cedric, are you in there?”

After knocking, Cedric’s face appeared after a moment.

“Hmm? Tsukasa? What’s up?”

“Sorry to bother you, but do you know which room Andy’s in?”

“Ah, Andy? It’s the first room on the right on the third floor.”

Oh, Cedric is as reliable as ever—knowing everything.

“Thanks!”

“You’re welcome, but… uh, Joan was looking for you earlier, by the way?”

Ah, so Cedric handled it for me.

“I met up with her. It’s about Andy—he’s working a cleaning job with her.”

“Ah, I see. Good luck, then.”

“Yeah, thanks. See you tomorrow!”

“Got it!”

With that, Cedric closed the door, and I made my way down the stairs to the third floor.

Once there, I knocked on the first room to the right.

“An-dy senpai? Are you in?”

“Hmm? Who’s there?”

Looks like he’s in.

“I’m Tsukasa Nagase from first year. I’m here regarding a cleaning job with Mr. Wallace.”

“Ah, one sec, please!”

“Sure.”

After a short wait, Andy opened the door.

“Sorry sorry, I was in the bathroom.”

You didn’t have to tell me that…

“Senpai, are you aware about the cleaning job?”

“Yeah, Joan asked me about it. Good side gig, really.”

“Just now, I was asked to help with it too. Apparently, it’s because of the monster-summoning device I made before—they said it’s as a show of gratitude.”

“Hmm… Well, I hear researchers value inspiration a lot, so I guess they’re pretty thankful, even if I can’t quite follow that.”

Yeah… Sharl’s kind of the same way.

“Anyway, so it’s the three of us. We’re trying to figure out the schedule—Joan is waiting downstairs and asked me to get you.”

“Ah, I see. Well then, let’s go. It’s at that fork, right?”

“Yes, let’s head that way.”

We made our way down the stairs, out of the dormitory, down the hill, and eventually arrived at the fork where Joan was waiting.

“Joan-senpai, I’ve brought him.”

“Good job, thank you. Andy, sorry to bother you.”

“Nah, I was free anyway. So, when are we doing this?”

Andy immediately got to the point.

“Hmm… Tsukasa, what’s your availability?”

“Uh, I’m booked solid except for afternoons on Monday and not available Saturdays.”

“Hmm… You’re taking your classes pretty seriously, aren’t you?”

“To be honest, I’m still figuring out what I want to focus on…”

Of course, I’m interested in Curse Studies, but that’s because of my arm—it’s still uncertain where my future lies. For now, I’m still considering.

“Understood. I think it’s a good thing. Even though I recommend alchemy…”

Sorry…

“Seems like I might not be able to keep up with that… so, maybe not for me.”

“Hmm, well if you’re that good at martial arts, that path might suit you better. What about you, Andy? When are you free?”

Joan turned her attention to Andy.

“Wednesday and Friday afternoons are good for me.”

“I’m available Tuesday and Thursday.”

Wow…

Perfectly mismatched.

“Well… what do you suggest?”

“Hmm… After school is probably fine. We’re just checking things out first.”

“Checking things out?”

“Right, we’re cleaning an old lab in the basement. So, we’ll check it out first, then clean it up on Sunday. We can try to do the check-up sometime this week, right?”

Ah, I see. If it’s just checking, it shouldn’t take much time.

“Sure, any time works for me. I’m a half-boarder, so even though my classes end at 5, it’s only 2 PM in Japan, so I can adjust to match your schedules.”

Since I’m the junior, I should accommodate them.

“Anytime works for you, Andy?”

“Yeah, this schedule’s fine with me too. Sunday’s free as well.”

“In that case, let’s go with Sunday then. And the check-up… Can we make it Thursday? It might take me a bit longer to prepare.”

Joan has that whole “girl thing” going on…

“That’s fine with me.”

“And me too. Let’s make it Thursday then.”

“Sure. Sorry about that. We’ll meet up by the bulletin board in front of D School Building after our classes end on Thursday.”

Thursday at 5 PM by the bulletin board…

I should make sure I don’t forget that.

“Understood.”

“Got it.”

Both Andy and I nodded.

“Well, that’s settled… Oh, Tsukasa, why aren’t you available on Saturdays?”

Joan asked with a slightly teasing tone.

“I’ve got an appointment.”

“Hmm… A date?”

She definitely has Sharl in mind…

She’s actually right though.

“I’m pretty bad at studying, so I’m getting tutored.”

“Hoooho! Studying, huh? That’s quite the story of youth!”

“What are you talking about?”

Andy tilted his head in confusion.

“Nothing much. Just feeling like I’m watching a famous play.”

“Hmm? I don’t get it…”

Neither do I.

Nagase Tsukasa, born into a prestigious family of modern-day wizards, had immense magic power from birth but could only use magic to strengthen his physical abilities. Resigned to the fact that he couldn’t become a proper wizard, Tsukasa decided to live an ordinary life as a regular person. However, Tsukasa wasn’t particularly bright. When applying for high school he aimed low and took the entrance exam for a backup school, but he slacked off and played around too much, resulting in him failing the exam and becoming a NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training). As Tsukasa awkwardly navigated his way through the new school year, he accidentally ended up wearing a cursed bracelet that would kill him if left alone. The curse was so powerful that even his mother, a skilled curse breaker, couldn’t lift it. To remove the bracelet he had two options; cut off his arm, or use his immense magic power to break the curse. Thus Tsukasa enrolled in a modern magic academy in a parallel world to learn the curse-breaking magic he needed. And so began Tsukasa’s carefree school life, where his only talents were his magic power and martial arts skills.
