Chapter 844: For the Tribe, For Freedom
Lin Nuo decided to stop pretending; there was no point in it. The City Lord would be here soon, bringing a group of people, and escaping would be even harder then.
It was better to lay everything on the table now because hiding would only lead to being discovered—better to die early than delay the inevitable.
Tsk, let’s break out early and kick some serious butt.
Chaos reigned as thick white mist enveloped the area; a smoke bomb had shattered everyone’s visibility.
“Emergency! There’s an assassin!” someone yelled, throwing the prison into turmoil. The guards and soldiers drew their weapons, but between the mist and the commotion, everyone was colliding into each other.
Xu Ku stayed calm and collected, utterly unperturbed. How could mere fog affect him?
He concentrated, thinking it was an assassin trying to exploit the confusion to take him out; he could sense movements based on their aura.
But, the truth mattered little to him.
Lin Nuo’s target was the group of Fox People; who cared about Dong Wei?
“Disperse the fog!” Xu Ku quickly commanded. He gathered his spiritual energy, channeling it through his hands and sending out a massive wave of force that blew the mist away. The area rapidly returned to visibility.
However, by the time the fog cleared, Lin Nuo and Luo Xiaoxue had vanished without a trace, fleeing at lightning speed.
Were they getting away?
Even so, there was no need to panic; they couldn’t escape too far. The place was crawling with guards and traps. Exiting would be a challenge.
“Activate the traps! They haven’t escaped yet. Follow me, we’ll find them!”
Xu Ku barked orders, his determination fierce, leading team after team to search. The Fox People hiding in the cells were startled, cowering in fear.
What’s happening? Who’s coming in?
They didn’t know, didn’t dare to ask, had no choice but to stay silent.
Soon enough, Lin Nuo smashed through the iron bars imprisoning the Fox People. The sturdy bars bent easily under his strength, and he lunged into the cells.
The Fox People were taken aback; from their attire, it was clear he was a guard!
What does he want? Please, don’t come here!
Lin Nuo extended his right hand, palm open; a brilliant light erupted, transforming into a mighty, sharp longsword.
This had the Fox People stunned. Was he going to… kill them?
No, was he going to kill Foxes?
With a swift motion, the sword descended, quick as a flash.
They thought they would die, instinctively shutting their eyes.
But nothing happened.
When they opened their eyes again, they found the shackles on their hands and feet shattered—cut clean through by the descending blade.
What the…?
Unsure of what had just transpired, at least the chains were broken, freeing them from their uncomfortable bonds.
“You’re free now! Rush out while you still can! Otherwise, you’ll all die!”
Lin Nuo shouted this then dashed to the next cell, breaking the iron bars again, his sword slashing down to free more prisoners.
These shackles had been enchanted; after all, Fox People weren’t ordinary prisoners; they possessed varying levels of spiritual power. If they got riled up, they could easily rip someone apart with one hand.
Destroying the shackles could lead to an explosion, but Lin Nuo’s sword possessed the ability to negate such effects.
With shackles gone and constraints lifted, even the normally docile Fox People were now filled with defiance.
Lin Nuo methodically worked his way through the cells, efficiently breaking each one open.
However, the guards were arriving, blocking the entrance with their sharp weapons and spiritual tools.
Most notably, this group understood how to deal with Fox People; they possessed electric rods and similar spiritual devices. A single touch would leave the Fox People paralyzed and without the will to resist.
A well-equipped squad for catching monsters.
The guards, led by Xu Ku, moved in closer, taking their time, steadily closing in to catch Lin Nuo and the Fox People in a trap.
“I thought something felt familiar. Looks like you’re pretty gutsy, trying to take these Fox People away. Well, you’re in for it now; there’s no escape!”
Xu Ku accelerated his pace, now closing in. The Fox People, seeing the rods in their hands, trembled in fear and refused to charge forward.
Time to find another way.
Lin Nuo gathered his energy and slammed his palm against the wall. The force was tremendous, smashing straight through it.
Bang!
A wall crumbled, creating a large hole that shook the entire prison, almost ready to collapse.
Alright, one path opened; let’s create another!
With another powerful strike, he destroyed the opposite wall, making enough space for several Fox People to escape.
“Now go with them!” Lin Nuo urged Luo Xiaoxue, then shouted back to the Fox People,
“You all need to run! If you don’t, you’ll just wait for death. Follow her!”
Lin Nuo turned to the startled Foxes and commanded them. Luo Xiaoxue paused but quickly started running, and the Fox People followed suit.
They had to escape; survival was paramount!
For the tribe, for freedom, charge!
The Fox People surged forward, desperately fleeing, and with the guards scrambling at the entrance, now two exits had opened.
In addition to the Fox People, there were some terrifying prisoners within the prison—repeat offenders, who were to be executed publicly but were also now released alongside the Foxes.
It was chaos, pure chaos.
“Hurry, catch them! If you can’t, just kill them!”
Xu Ku was panicking now. This was an audacious prison break, a blatant insult to him.
And if word got out about this, he’d be held accountable for failing his duty.
Kill them!
The guards rushed in, not pausing for a moment, needing to act before all the Foxes escaped.
But Lin Nuo wouldn’t let them through.
He stood like a brick wall, blocking their path alone.
Demon Soul Power surged through his body, and in an instant, he unleashed a wave of chaotic demonic energy toward the guards.
“Demon Practitioner?!”
Xu Ku sensed the gravity of the situation, hurriedly raising his Spirit Shield to counteract Lin Nuo’s overwhelming attack.
Boom!
A deafening blast rocked the area, sending troops sprawling, but Xu Ku managed to hold his ground.
“Damn it! A Demon Practitioner with decent power!”
Xu Ku gritted his teeth; the presence of a Demon Practitioner was serious trouble.
“Quickly, send someone for backup!”
Xu Ku knew he was in over his head; he needed reinforcements from the City Lord’s Mansion and to mobilize a large force to capture these prisoners.
But Lin Nuo wasn’t going to let that happen. He slammed his palm into the ground, summoning a dragon soul that burrowed underground, rapidly surging toward the crowd, targeting those about to call for help.
Whoosh!
The dragon soul erupted from the ground, its massive maw snapping shut on the unsuspecting, resulting in casualties aplenty.
Lin Nuo quickly retreated; he had to lead the demon kin to safety and couldn’t afford to linger.
This commotion attracted the attention of the entire Huang City; the military was being mobilized, and cultivators raced to the scene.
“The Fox Demons have escaped?”
Su Kexin was shocked and hurriedly rushed to the scene.
