Chapter 92

Chapter 92: The Investigation Corps.

The Team Leader rubbed his face, maintaining an optimistic mood and expression as he rummaged through supplies to feed some to his Commander.

After confirming the Commander’s vital signs, the Team Leader took the remaining supplies from him and began aiding the others.

“Hack, hack, hack! Thank heavens I’m not dead!”

The Master Swordsman pushed aside the mast broken into several sections that pinned him down, dragging himself out of a pile of shattered wooden planks and climbing back onto the wrecked deck via hanging ropes.

“Do you need help?”

The Team Leader waved the medicine in his hand.

“Give it to those who need it more. I’ve got some on me.”

The Master Swordsman hauled up his Great Sword, leaning on it as he opened a small bottle of Spiny Dragon toxin.

Looks like I’ll have to use this myself. That breath weapon earlier must’ve been from the Tea-Spiny Dragon.

It was clear they weren’t out of danger yet; a large monster at the top of the food chain was still lurking nearby.

Some of the Spiny Dragon’s poison was diluted into a recovery potion in another flask.

He chugged it all down, and instantly his senses became much sharper. Wiping the rainwater off his faceplate, he could see clearly again.

The Team Leader was still rescuing the other investigators, and it was his duty to protect them.

With his strength restored, the Master Swordsman stood up, moving to the highest point of the stricken ship to keep watch while gazing into the storm.

It had been quite some time since they’d awakened. The two figures in the storm and the violent thunder and lightning were gone.

Was the fight over? Or had it moved elsewhere?

But the storm hadn’t dispersed, continuing its path toward the shore with seawater in tow.

The Team Leader and the relatively uninjured investigators were retreating with the critically wounded, using the ship as cover against the storm.

The tall blond man waved at him, signaling for him to come down.

The Master Swordsman remained as steady as a mountain in the wind with his Great Sword, only rejoining the soaked companions afterward.

“How’s it going? Thank goodness everyone’s vital signs are stable despite varying injuries!”

The Team Leader’s golden hair, which lay flat under the rain, flared up again with his head shake.

“At least we don’t see any Ancient Dragons around here, and there doesn’t seem to be any immediate threats nearby.”

“Catching colds, new continent pathogens, water-soil intolerance… Those are our main worries now. Supplies will definitely be consumed heavily in the coming days. This guy will wake up heartbroken for sure.”

The Team Leader shook the still unconscious Commander.

“I’ll go find some hot drinks.”

“The Shān Máo has already gone.”

“Good.”

The conversation cooled down for a bit until one Compiler woke up muttering nightmare-like nonsense.

“Ancient Dragons, two Ancient Dragons!”

“Calm down, it’s all over.”

“I understand, but—”

The Compiler tried to climb aboard the ship but was pulled down by the quiet male Dragon Person:

“They’re gone. Curiosity surpassing fear isn’t a good thing.”

“Hmm, looks like even the Team Leader doesn’t—”

A green figure flew up from the cliffside, interrupting the investigators’ conversation.

Everyone stared at the monster capable of flying in such harsh weather as it landed on the peak.

A Spiny Dragon, a rare creature in the Old Continent.

The Master Swordsman was about to leap forward but stopped upon hearing another female Compiler speak.

“The Spiny Dragon isn’t very aggressive, don’t provoke it.”

At that moment, the Spiny Dragon stretched its neck almost to his face.

This thing was huge, incredibly so. He wasn’t even as tall as its horn.

Even a fully enclosed helmet couldn’t block his perception. He prepared to dodge if the Spiny Dragon suddenly attacked.

Everyone held their breath, staring at this massive creature unafraid of the Ancient Dragons’ pressure.

The Compiler observing the Spiny Dragon from its side wondered if he saw wrong—there seemed to be emotions in the Spiny Dragon’s eyes.

The stagnant air dissipated as Jié Jié moved his head away.

He had no idea why he made eye contact with the Master Swordsman when he flew up; he was a little confused.

His gaze swept over everyone present, comparing their faces with future acquaintances in his memory.

That tall blond man is the young Grand Team Leader, and the thin man next to him should be the future Supreme Commander.

The Master Swordsman goes without saying, but the weapon hidden behind him wasn’t the familiar Female Fire Dragon Katana but a Male Fire Dragon Great Sword.

Trying to hide a Great Sword behind your back for a sneak attack? How stupid.

And the one who called out to stop the Master Swordsman—

He slightly turned his head to look at the refined woman.

She looked familiar. Is she the Field Master? Grandma was cool when she was young.

Unfortunately, he realized he couldn’t understand what they were saying—they were speaking English!

Damn, all he remembered from university was high school-level English. He passed CET-4 but still can’t understand them.

“Meow!”

The sharp, cautious sound made Jié Jié look up, seeing a burly Ailu Cat also carrying a Great Sword standing proudly on the ship.

“Partner, come back!”

That line Jié Jié understood. The Team Leader was calling his Ailu Cat partner back.

The Ailu Cat leapt down, landing beside the Master Swordsman.

The Team Leader’s call broke the silence, but soon an even deeper silence returned.

The future Chief Cook, perhaps?

The current Chief Cook wasn’t the Chief Cook yet, didn’t have an eyepatch covering one eye, and the Great Sword he carried wasn’t broken.

I’ve seen enough. Realizing he wasn’t welcome here, Jié Jié flapped his wings, blowing wind pressure that swept the rainwater toward everyone.

They would set up a base here, and he’d come back later to investigate.

For now, he needed to confirm the outcome of the battle between the Ancient Dragons and whether he could gain anything from it.

“Ah-oh~”

Everyone silently wiped the rain from their faces, watching the green figure fly over their heads.

“That guy must’ve crashed into our ship, huh? I thought we were about to fight.”

The Team Leader let out a sigh, leaning back against the ship while prodding the barnacles at the bottom.

“It’s best that we didn’t fight. We know so little about Spiny Dragons from the past, let alone the ones from the New Continent.”

“At least this powerful monster isn’t hostile towards us.”

Finally, the investigators spoke, discussing in the rain.

Among them were elite Hunters, but without information or preparation, they often had to retreat when facing powerful monsters outside their mission scope.

“Wow, that’s a giant tree!”

The Dragon Person with sharp vision was the first to spot the giant tree far away in the rain. Others noticed it too after he mentioned it.

The investigators were eager, but they all knew the most important task right now was to establish a stable base.

“Our ship has run aground anyway. Cangxing might never return to the ocean. Let’s dismantle it and build a base here.”

The Team Leader stood up, issuing the first order they needed to execute.

Inventory the supplies on the ship.
