Chapter 94: Hesitation leads to defeat, decisiveness leads to freebies (Second update of the day! Subscription plea!)
The power of the falling star was indeed massive, but many monsters that were born at the last moment, on the edge of the magic range, merely got caught in the aftermath and survived by sheer luck.
The trio approached to finish them off one by one.
Finishing blows are a good habit. Countless tragedies from our predecessors have taught us that delivering finishing blows is an essential part of combat!
Hesitate, and you will be defeated!
“Mr. Izay… you just said what you really think.”
Beside him, Refia, who was helping to collect the monsters’ magic stones, after much deliberation, couldn’t help but comment.
“Eh? Did I say it out loud?”
Izay, who was busy sending the monsters to their doom with his weapon, turned back in surprise.
“Yes, you just said ‘hesitate, and you will be defeated.'”
“Decisive actions lead to freebies, right?”
Refia replied as Raul chimed in.
Having run through so many dungeons with Izay, he had long grown accustomed to Izay’s occasional mutterings.
He had also picked up a line or two.
Then the spiky-haired dude shook his head.
“I don’t know where you get all these strange phrases.”
But let’s not say that, they do sound somewhat reasonable.
Did you hear that, Refia?
Hesitate, and you will be defeated!
So please, when we cast spells, don’t hesitate, alright?
This girl always gets interrupted when facing powerful monsters, it’s a daily occurrence, and even Raul feels anxious for her.
Dungeon Twenty-Second Layer.
It’s this familiar floor again. Last time, Izay seemed to encounter some big shots here, but not this time.
If we met them every time, that would be strange.
After all, they’ve been hiding for at least a decade without being discovered, why should they expose themselves just because of us?
Last time, if it weren’t for the skills, Izay wouldn’t have been able to find them either.
Still relying on the tree bark maze and countless plants trying to confuse adventurers’ directions, it resembles the inside of a giant tree.
The dreamlike blue moss grows luxuriantly in the maze without any order, emitting light that faintly illuminates the ceiling and walls, making the adventurers’ shadows flicker in the dimness.
Along the way, one can see leaves with peculiar shapes and colors, giant fungi, and flower petals dripping with silver droplets, among other rich plants not found on the surface.
Each cavern visited has different scenery, and there are even beautiful gardens.
“Let’s gather more herbs. After all, they’re money, don’t leave free stuff behind~”
The “Great Tree Maze” area of this floor has another feature: abundant and rare medicinal herb resources.
Adventurers often receive commissions to specifically collect herbs and items from here.
Research has shown that many of these herbs can be eaten directly for quick recovery of stamina or detoxification effects, highly valued by pharmacists who make spiritual medicines and other items.
Even the dazzling moss forming the labyrinth’s light source can fetch a lot of money when taken to the surface.
“Alright, my backpack is big enough anyway!”
Facing Izay’s suggestion, Raul agreed without hesitation.
These two would never complain about having too much money.
One has a classic rabbit mindset, understanding that more personal savings are always better.
The other constantly remembers that he still owes a mountain of debt.
Refia looked at the two with a complicated expression as they skillfully gathered herbs, unsure where to start her critique.
Then, new monsters appeared.
“Rooohhh!!”
“Ohh! Ohhhhh!!”
A group of strong lizard warriors, like they encountered their sworn enemies, charged at the three with large floral weapons.
The appearance of the lizardmen is the typical type of the western fantasy world, red scales covering their bodies, standing on two legs, and attacking with their forelimbs.
And the floral weapons are one kind of natural weapons from the “Maze’s Armory.”
The steel-colored flowers blooming on the wall, once the flower stem is broken, the half-meter diameter flowers can be used as shields, and the petals plucked from the flowers can be used as short swords with wider blades, known as petal steel blades.
With shields, swords, walking upright, and using both hands to attack…
Every time fighting these monsters, Izay always has the illusion of engaging in “human combat.”
Lizardmen skilled in using swords and shields are like beast warriors.
Of course, they have almost no intelligence, relying entirely on the instincts given to them by the dungeon during battle.
Gripping the silver-gray spear tightly, Izay deflected the incoming blade with the spear tip.
The slash delivered with brute force was avoided by Izay, causing the charging lizardman to lose balance and stumble backward.
Suddenly, a silver flash passed by.
The sharp and scorching spear slashed across the lizardman’s neck, separating its head from its body.
“Guhhhh—!?”
Accompanied by a seemingly bewildered low moan, the lifeless monster quickly turned into black ash and dissipated.
Apparently reacting to the death of their comrade, the remaining lizardmen began raising their flower shields while charging forward.
Although in front of Izay’s enchanted weapon, such quality shields seemed useless.
Perhaps it gives them some peace of mind.
“Kyaahh!!!”
Just as Izay’s fight with the lizardmen was one-sided, new unwelcome guests arrived from the sky.
A flock of firebirds flapping their wings flew toward this direction.
Izay noticed the sharp cries of these firebirds and instinctively sped up his fight with the lizardmen.
Quickly defeating the lizardmen, then slowly shooting down the birds with “Starfall.”
After all, if entangled with the lizardmen, those firebirds would have the chance to set fires freely.
However, the very next moment after this thought crossed his mind, a melodious chant arose.
“[Proud warriors, shooters of the forest.]”
“[Approaching looters ahead, take your bows. Answer the call of your comrades, string your arrows.]”
The magic circle expanding widely from beneath the elven girl’s feet exuded a strong presence.
Multiple emerald rings radiated with brilliance, rising particles and beams of light from her feet gathering an awe-inspiring magical power.
“[Ignite the flames, lights of the forest. Command you to release arrows, fire arrows of the elves]!”
“[Pour down like rain, burn the barbarians]!”
The elven girl’s incantation made Izay abandon his thoughts of a quick victory, a slight smile appearing on his lips.
Looks like shooting the birds is unnecessary for him.
With a powerful swing of the spear, solving the problem of the surrounding lizardmen, Izay witnessed the most spectacular scene.
Facing the airborne firebirds attempting to form flames for an attack, Refia unleashed a bombardment.
“[Fire Spear Volley]!!”
———!!
A storm of flame arrows was released.
Countless crimson magic projectiles surged forth from the magic circle expanded in front of Refia, transforming into lethal arrows raining down upon the flock of firebirds.
Countless fiery arrows covered the entire flock of firebirds, exploding in a burst of flames in the sky above the forest.
The fire arrows hit their marks, piercing through the wings, carrying mournful screams as they brought down the monsters.
But it didn’t last long.
Refia’s magic only lasted a brief moment.
After wiping out all the firebirds, she ceased the release of magic.
In fact, the scale of this magic could be larger, but there was no need.
Expanding the scale would simply waste mana.
In the dungeon, maintaining one’s condition is the key point for adventurers’ survival.
Waiting until your mana, physical strength, and spirit are depleted before thinking of replenishing is too late.
Monsters won’t give you that chance, nor will the dungeon.
