The Great Cleanup

Chapter 93 ? The Great Cleanup #3

The lump of flesh wriggling on the floor, resembling mud, disintegrates into shards once more upon contact with Luna’s Silence Totem.

Kerchunk!

Graaaah!

At that d*ath-like scream, Cultist Sorceress Somnia trembled, the accessories on her body rattling audibly.

“What is this? What stops my sorcery midway? Who are you?”

“I am the Voodoo Priest of Ideope, Luna! I am Luna, Daughter of the Great Night!”

Luna held her rather thick Silence Totem high, declaring her presence boldly. Gazing upon her, imagery of a protective gear-clad warrior flashed in my mind.

She certainly cuts an intimidating figure.

Still, all Somnia did from beneath her mask was chuckle softly.

“Aha, so you’re from the Isle of Ideope. That makes you one of the brats from the Nox Child Tribe, doesn’t it? I couldn’t tell without your Plague Mask. That’s a fine Silence Totem you’ve got there.”

Despite the fierce confrontation only moments ago, Somnia’s demeanor softened considerably.

Could this be a pleasant reunion between fellow countryfolk?

Of course, it’s understandable. If I were to encounter another Korean in this bizarre world, I’d feel quite delighted myself.

From behind her mask, Somnia spoke again.

“I am Somnia, daughter of the Deep Abyss. Nice to meet you, fellow islander. So, tell me, would you turn a blind eye to this? I don’t want to stuff your corpse with cotton and turn you into a zombie.”

“T-T-That…”

“You know, someone without a Plague Mask can’t possibly stop me, a healer. Moreover, the Nox Child Tribe worships the same power of hell as we do, right? How about you join us?”

“What? You’re asking me to become a cultist?”

Startled, Luna shook her shoulders, bewildered by Pluto Cultist Somnia’s recruitment offer. Having experienced such scenes a few times already, I took it calmly, but it was clearly Luna’s first.

“Imagine it. The deep, scorching power of a shapeless world. We brought it to this surface, even catching a faint whiff of its mist from the cracked ground.”

Somnia tightened her fist while stretching it towards the air, trembling slightly.

“The Hell ascended to the earth. The collapsing boundary between d*ath and life. We Voodoo Priests wielding the power of the dead shall live like kings, no longer scorned for believing in superstitions.”

“W-W-What kind of king…”

This wasn’t good. Luna was being entranced by these hollow promises, her senses slipping away. I couldn’t help but wonder how a cult like this managed to maintain itself.

It seems they ensnare and exploit young, innocent children like Luna. This was getting dangerous—Luna might become a cultist like this!

“Luna, there’s no need to seriously listen to whatever the cultists have to say! It’s all rubbish!”

“I know. I was just hearing her out. Somnia, right? Here’s my answer!”

With that, Luna extended her middle finger while clenching her fist tightly.

“That’s the universal insult, isn’t it? Somnia’s accessories and mask rattled as she burst into laughter, clearly taken aback.

“Wow, I can’t believe this.”

After laughing for some time, her body suddenly stilled.

“That’s precisely why I hate kids from the Nox Child Tribe. The children from the rich Isle just don’t understand those who grew up on the barren and poor lands!”

With a swoosh, Somnia drew a dagger from her waist.

“Well, whatever. I’ll k*ll you and stuff your belly with cotton, turning you into one of our zombies. The sorcerers of the sisterhood resonate well.”

Honestly, it looked less like a dagger and more like a spike or a black horn. It had a conical shape with rough engravings, making it extremely ominous.

Without exaggeration, if someone got stabbed with that, they’d definitely contract tetanus and all sorts of diseases.

“And you, Ol-Dol-Gol, or Hassan of Samaria! You tricked us good last time! I’m going to shred you to pieces and throw you into the flames of hell, b*stard!”

I was genuinely startled when the arrow pointed towards me. I thought they’d forgotten about me since there was no mention of me!?

“Ah, but technically I too was a victim in my own way.”

“Shut up, you piece of Mar’s dog! It’s because of you we failed! Go eat your hellish voodoo!”

d*mn, they blame me for their own failures. Truly, there’s no greater arrogance. But this was the average morality of people in this world, so I shouldn’t be too surprised.

“Huh!”

Somnia swung her bizarre dagger forcefully, embedding it into the floor.

Crraaack.

Her crude dagger pierced through the bricks of the underground sewer wall and into the ground.

I wasn’t sure what she was about to do, but before I could react, grotesque bones and flesh started rising uncontrollably through the walls.

Kerchunk, Grrrrr, Kerchunk.

“Appear, entrance to the Deep Abyss. Where the realms of the living and the dead blur in the dim dawn…”

Kerchunk. Kerchunk.

The lumps of flesh began to s*ck up mud and water, inflating in size.

Gulp, Grumble.

They quickly coalesced into shapes roughly half the size of Luna, forming grotesque forms resembling people and beasts. If you were to patch together a mud-covered goblin, it might look exactly like this.

They didn’t seem particularly strong, but their numbers were considerable. Ten? Twenty? They kept increasing! d*mn, isn’t this cheating? Just how powerful are voodoo priests? Did Luna make a wrong choice with her skill build?

“H-Hassan, let’s run first!”

At that moment, Luna grabbed my arm and began to swiftly move away. Likewise, I made the decision to run with her.

Somewhere behind us came Somnia’s loud voice.

“One cannot escape from d*ath! You bastards!”

We were literally running as fast as we could without looking back, completely avoiding the overwhelming hoard of zombie goblins chasing after us.

Of course, if there were only zombie goblins, we might’ve been able to deal with them somehow. But given that the powerful cultist Somnia isn’t a fool, she wouldn’t just stand by quietly.

Taking on both goblins and Somnia simultaneously would be absolutely insane, so our priority was to get away from her somehow.

Kaang, Kaaah!

“Argh, dammit!”

Suddenly, something clamped down on my ankle with a crunch.

Pain sliced through my skin, shocking me. Turning my head, I saw a four-legged creature made of interweaving flesh and skin holding onto my ankle, stretching it in all directions.

Arur, Karrr!

And it barked incessantly, as if advertising our location to the others.

“Shut up, you brat!”

I was furious at being attacked like this and swung my club with all my might, striking its head.

Crack!

Kiyyy!

The creature let out a painful cry, dissolving back into chunks of flesh and muddy decay, slumping to the ground.

“H-Hell, Luna! What do we do in this mess?”

Since Luna is from the same Isle of Ideope and also a voodooist, perhaps she knows some effective countermeasures against this. But shaking her head, she indicated that she too was at a loss except for running.

“The Tatari Tribe makes the best idols and zombies on Ideope. Handling so many creatures at once like this is unimaginable…we can’t win!”

“Hell d*mn, looks like we have no option but to run!”

“Still… they’re weak against fire, so setting them on fire works…”

Luna clicked her tongue in irritation as she looked around at the dense foliage and gases in the vicinity. If we were to start a fire here, who knows what kind of chaos would ensue? It’s obvious from her reaction that she’s aware of the potential disaster.

In other words, this place might as well be Somnia’s home ground. Apparently, cultists are pretty crafty when it comes to underhanded tricks.

So, we did our best to escape, searching desperately for a ladder leading to the exit of the underground canal. However, all the ladders leading upwards were already destroyed.

“Somnia must have smashed them!”

“d*mn! We’re screwed!”

In the end, trapped by no other choice, we found ourselves enclosed in this dank, horrifying sewer.

Kroh!

At that moment, a zombie goblin came lunging at me with its jagged maw wide open. In its hand was a sharp bone shard, probably from some beast, held like a dagger.

Though crude, if I got stabbed with that, it would undoubtedly transfer diseases.

“Ah, d*mn dirty b*stard!”

So, I swung my paddle with all my might, striking its skull.

Whoosh, Crack!

That alone splattered the creature into pieces, scattering them around. It was quite satisfying to look at even in the grim situation. If my weapon were an ordinary sword, I’d probably have dulled its edge trying to slash through the thick, oily skin.

Kreeaaaack!

“D-You d*e, d*mn it!”

Crack!

Thus, I swung my club repeatedly at the zombie little devils coming towards me.

Strangely, with every swing, I began to feel like the weight of my club was getting lighter.

Boom, Boom.

It wasn’t because I’d forgotten the weight amidst the excitement—it actually felt like the club itself was getting slightly lighter, making it much easier to wield.

No idea why this was happening, but it’s incredibly fascinating!

“d*mn bastards, all of you d*e!”

So, with one hand, I swung my club wildly around, smashing the skulls of all the zombie beasts trying to k*ll us. The weight was lighter but the power remained the same, leaving the zombies in an absolute mess.

Giiiiiik!

“Hey Luna, they’re not much of a challenge, huh?”

“T-That’s right! What is this? Without the Silence Spell, it’s usually not easy to turn them back into dirt!”

“Am I getting stronger or what?”

Could it be the confidence from battling against the Great Swordsman Schizo? Or maybe my new club has a bonus damage specifically against undead and dead beings. It’s a well-known rule to use blunt weapons against the undead class.

Guuurr.

Grr.

Anyway, at the sight of my fierce attacks, the zombie bastards have stopped barreling recklessly at me and are cautiously looking around. They seem more intimidated than the skeletons I faced before from the Necromancer.

“Hey. I guess there’s meaning in being scarred by the Nox, huh? You’re wielding a mysterious club now, and it works like a Silence Totem on its own?”

And just then, Somnia emerged from the shadows of the sewer, pushing through the underwater vegetation.

Compared to the crude zombies, she was projecting an entirely different kind of tension, making cold sweat drip down my back.

“I didn’t want to use this method since it might leave no remains.”

Somnia then pulled out a large amount of strange plant roots from the pouch tied around her waist.

Lifting part of her mask, she stuffed the plants into her mouth and began chewing vigorously.

Gruuuh, Krhhr, Uuuuaa…!

A bestial groan.

Crraaack, Crack, the sound of joints and bones cracking filled the underwater channel.

The lean clothed figure’s muscles and flesh began to swell, visibly reddening.

“Peasant-flying Sky-Tadpole!”

With a surreal cry of fury, Somnia swung her fists violently around.

Bam!

Her powerful punch immediately crushed the head of one of her own zombie goblins nearby.

Crrraaaaack!

Crunch, Somnia’s punch smashes through a zombie’s skull, bl**d splattering everywhere.

“d*mn. She’s doping herself or something, what the hell!?” exclaimed Hassan.

“She ate the raw Hesishy flower! Even an elephant would be out of it for a day with that amount!”

Keeeeek!

Seeing Somnia’s bloodied fists and the drooling saliva or tears leaking from beneath the mask, Hassan realized the dire situation.

“Yaalooong Burrung, Blind-one!”

Punch.

With enhanced strength, Somnia now targets Luna.

Luna’s eyes widened in fear, and she fell backward on her behind.

“Hiy!”

“Break—break it!”

Somnia’s crimson fist was raised high, aiming straight for the defenseless Luna’s head. A single hit from that and Luna’s head would surely detach from her body!

“d*mn! Luna, duck!”

With that, Hassan surged forward with a powerful kick, launching at Somnia.

Swinging his club forcefully at Somnia, Hassan managed to strike her stomach. There was a loud Bk, and a hard impact traveled up Hassan’s hands.

d*mn, it didn’t feel like hitting a person. It’s like I struck a power pole or something.

Why did it feel like hitting rock? It was as if her skin had turned to stone, impervious even to sword edges.

“GUUARRRR!”

Though not entirely ineffective, Somnia stumbled back several steps.

But the major issue now was that the full brunt of her attack was now targeted solely at Hassan.

“GUUUUAAAA!”

With a roar from beneath her mask, Somnia charged at Hassan.

Whoosh!

Raising her powerful leg high, Somnia slammed it into the ground, causing the crumbled brick flooring to shatter and fragments to scatter everywhere.

Cr-r-r-rack!

“d*mn, she’s terrifying!”

However, her broad motions and long gaps between attacks made it not too difficult to evade.

Whoosh, Crash!!

Still, one direct hit would certainly be fatal. Each movement felt like ultimate finishing moves!

“Glory to the Sun!”

『There exists a place untouched by the Light’s Authority.』

“sh*t! Lord Nox!”

『The Blessing of Night’s Cloak activates.』

『Consuming task points to adjust the detection probability of your stealth abilities.』

『Current Task Points: 214』

213.

212.

“Whoosh, Whoosh!!

Even though Hassan activated the Night’s Cloak, Somnia’s punch flew straight towards him.

It was because the blessing only reduced the noise of his movements for stealth acts, it didn’t make him physically invisible.

d*mn, all Hassan’s available options locked down.

Crack.

Somnia’s punch clenched so fiercely it made an exaggeratedly ferocious noise. Like a b*llet, it shot directly toward Hassan’s head.

“Fff—”

Hassan barely dodged by ducking at the last moment.

Whoosh, Crack—*

The punch, stretching in a straight line, finally pierced deep into the rock wall, Somnia struggling to pull her hand out.

“Grurrr…”

Seizing the small moment of pause, Hassan quickly asked Luna:

“Luna! Isn’t there any other way out?”

“Th-There is something!”

Luna rummaged through her pocket and threw something at Hassan.

It was a plant with its roots chopped off, with crimson petals.
