Page Forty-Three: The Farthest Distance in the World
With a bang, the door was closed, but the peephole on the door was opened, revealing a small hole.
“I apologize, I need to confirm her intentions personally. Please wait for a moment.”
“Eh? There’s no way you can make people wait at the door!”
Miss Marika showed obvious displeasure, but Brother Fengwu had already run back inside to find Xiao Cangyu.
“Weren’t you in contact over the phone before?” Brother Fengwu seemed unaware of our purpose.
“There wasn’t much detail over the phone because she refused to participate in the book signing event. We couldn’t continue the conversation. If it could be resolved over the phone, I wouldn’t have come here in person.”
The narrow corridor of this old-style residential area felt crowded with three people standing there. It was summer, so it was quite hot.
Brother Fengwu had been gone for several minutes, and during that time, Miss Marika couldn’t help but press the doorbell a few times, but there was no response.
Xiao Yedi wanted to peek through the opened peephole, but its height was about one point six meters, just above her head. She had to stand on tiptoe to barely reach it. She struggled to look inside for a while, but seeing nothing, she gave up.
After about five minutes, the door opened again.
This time, Brother Fengwu didn’t block the entrance. He let us in generously.
The Feng family’s house wasn’t large, with a layout of two bedrooms and one living room, roughly several dozen square meters. Passing by the kitchen, we could see a half-mixed potato salad.
Further inside was the living room. Although Brother Fengwu looked somewhat casual, the house was very tidy, and the silhouette stickers on the walls added a warm touch.
The TV in the living room was paused on a gaming console screen, with controllers scattered on the floor, but there was no sign of Xiao Cangyu. Presumably, she had rushed into her bedroom before we entered.
“Please sit down. I’ll make some tea for you. My sister is in her room. You can talk directly to her. She can hear you.”
We sat on the soft velvet sofa. Brother Fengwu turned around and went into the kitchen to make tea.
On the coffee table in front of the sofa, a laptop was open, running a chat software with voice call capabilities. It wasn’t hard to understand that Xiao Cangyu intended to communicate with Xiao Yedi through this device.
“No way? Is Teacher Gongyong Xiaojī’s social anxiety really that severe?”
Xiao Yedi was slightly disappointed that she still couldn’t meet the person in the house, her hair drooping.
She put on a gentle tone and spoke softly, trying to coax Xiao Cangyu out of her room.
“Teacher Gongyong Xiaojī, would you mind opening the door? I have something very important to discuss today.”
[Can’t]
[Discuss]
Xiao Cangyu’s messages kept popping up in the chat window.
Brother Fengwu sat down with a teapot and cups, pouring tea for us.
Though I couldn’t identify the type of tea, the aroma was strong, but I wasn’t particularly fond of it.
“Since you can’t attend tomorrow’s book signing event, many people online are starting to question the identity of the young female writer, Gongyong Xiaojī. Written statements from the publisher alone aren’t enough. This might affect the sales of ‘Dream Fragrance.'”
Perhaps due to nervousness, facing a younger girl, Xiao Yedi also used polite language.
[I understand]
[I will handle these matters online]
Miss Marika took a sip of tea and asked curiously, “How do you plan to handle these matters online?”
[Hack the database, delete the information. If the number is too large, take down the websites.]
It seemed that Xiao Cangyu also had another identity as a world-class hacker. Previously, she used this skill to help me forge a fake ID.
“Gongyong Xiaojī knows hacking skills?!”
It was normal for Xiao Yedi to be surprised. Frankly, I thought Xiao Cangyu was quite impressive too.
Being a live-streamer, writing novels, and mastering hacking skills—each task would be demanding enough for an ordinary person… At sixteen years old, Xiao Cangyu had too many identities and skills. While introverted children often produce geniuses… Are all junior high school girls like monsters nowadays?
[Slightly know] Xiao Cangyu replied modestly.
“But you can’t handle all the trolls, right? Why not just take a photo and send it to the publisher? Let them issue a statement.”
In my opinion, trolls were like weeds in the yard. Unless you uprooted the grass, they would keep coming back.
“You could open the door, and I could take a photo for you too.”
[But the trolls would continue to doubt the authenticity of the photo]
[Wait]
[Are you interested in my photos, Brother Kai?]
For someone as uncharming as Xiao Cangyu, this remark was quite witty. Indeed, people online and in real life can have different personalities.
“Of course, it’s a pity I didn’t get a photo back then.”
Clearly, I was joking, but Brother Fengwu suddenly looked up at me with suspicion… This sibling complex is scary. My comment didn’t seem to have any major issues.
“The best solution is to attend the book signing event tomorrow… Can Gongyong Xiaojī really not participate?”
Before Xiao Yedi finished speaking, a string of messages from Xiao Cangyu came in. Her typing speed was incredibly fast, even faster than most people’s speech, which earned her the nickname “Flashing Finger Master.”
[Can’t]
[Why don’t you find someone else to replace me]
[The readers don’t know what Gongyong Xiaojī looks like anyway]
[It’s just signing]
Paused for about three seconds.
[Wait]
[I have a plan!]
“What plan?” Xiao Yedi urgently asked.
[Hmm hmm]
[Gongyong Xiaojī will definitely attend the book signing event tomorrow]
[Xiao Yedi Teacher, you can go back now]
“Will the teacher attend? No, can the teacher in this state actually attend?”
[Yes, you can rest assured]
[But Brother Kai needs to stay and help!]
Miss Marika seemed to have guessed something, smiling slyly, “Are you thinking of having a boy dress up as you for the book signing event? That’s a good idea.”
“Huh?”
No way?
As soon as she said it, even Brother Fengwu looked enlightened, seemingly finding the plan feasible… This is terrifying. Why does everyone want to put me in a dress?
[Not that]
[Anyway, Gongyong Xiaojī will definitely attend tomorrow]
[Please leave first]
“Can I see the teacher’s true appearance?”
[You’ll get to see plenty tomorrow, Brother Kai, please escort them out.]
Xiao Yedi was still uneasy, but after Xiao Cangyu repeatedly refused, Brother Fengwu apologized and escorted Miss Marika and Xiao Yedi to the door, leaving me sitting on the sofa in confusion.
“Then we’ll leave first. Will you be fine staying here alone, kid?” Miss Marika was somewhat concerned, perhaps feeling like she was abandoning me, looking somewhat apologetic.
“It’s fine, Brother Fengwu!”
She sighed, supporting her forehead, “I brought you out but didn’t bring you back. The commander will probably scold me.”
Xiao Yedi waved her fist in encouragement, “Although I don’t know what Teacher Gongyong Xiaojī plans to do, kid, you must cooperate well! My future depends on you!”
The door was closed again. For some reason, I felt a bit uneasy.
“What exactly is your sister planning?”
Brother Fengwu also seemed puzzled. He shook his head and asked, “Isn’t she asking you to dress up for the book signing event?”
From the room where the door had been tightly shut, a sea of green hair quietly appeared. She surveyed the living room, apparently confirming that Xiao Yedi and the others had really left.
When she met my gaze, Xiao Cangyu shrank back, closing the door again.
The laptop on the coffee table received a new message.
[Sorry for leaving you behind]
[I need to confirm a secret]
[Do you have the ability to turn men into women?]
