Chapter 940: The Key to Opening the Door (4k)
Gavin North spoke bluntly, “Count Longfellow, you might have read too many adventure novels. Curiosity is the greatest factor leading adventurers to their deaths.”
Stanley Longfellow responded, “But what if I say that the existence of that divine object will affect our purpose?”
Gavin North frowned and asked, “What do you mean?”
Count Stanley Longfellow, seeing everyone looking at him, said with a hint of pride, “Count North, I just realized something. The court prophet said that the divine blood is the key to opening the door. We must possess the divine blood to pass through a certain door and achieve our desires.”
Gavin North was puzzled as to why Stanley Longfellow would reveal this prophecy in front of so many people, saying somewhat discontentedly, “So what? Aren’t we already preparing the divine blood?”
“No, no, no,” Stanley Longfellow continued, “I just thought of another story.”
Impatient, Gavin North urged, “Just say it outright. Don’t beat around the bush.” Stanley Longfellow smiled and said, “I heard that the Mountain of Gods wasn’t originally called that. It became the Mountain of Gods because the twelve celestial gods dwelled there, transforming it into a paradise for the gods. They poured their divine blood to give birth to all things, creating the legendary Eden-like Mountain of Gods. Everything growing on this mountain is imbued with divine power, and the intelligent beings living here are the children of the gods… Of course, that was a long time ago. Nowadays… Could the lost divine blood possibly be rekindled? Why would a divine object appear in the now desolate Mountain of Gods?”
Gavin North frowned, “Do you mean that the golem’s divine aura comes from the divine object containing the divine blood?”
This conclusion was enough to make everyone reconsider.
Stanley Longfellow added, “Not only that. I believe that the divine object mentioned by the court prophet is not the divine blood itself but a special divine object born from the divine blood. Perhaps, the divine object you wish to bypass is the key to opening the door? Of course, this is just a possibility, a small chance. You don’t need to take my words seriously. Continue discussing.”
Even though Stanley Longfellow seemed like a clown, his words could not be ignored.
The court prophet’s prophecy, regardless of cost, was trustworthy. Any error would likely lie in the interpretation of the prophecy.
Both the academy and the church knew that Stanley Longfellow’s revelation was not false. The royal family also had some knowledge about it.
Bishop Sabrina Melville, from initial disdain to deep contemplation, must have gone through intense thinking.
All three factions present possessed the divine blood.
The royal family carrying the divine blood was, as prophesied, to open a certain door.
The church carried the divine blood to receive corresponding divine power. The academy carried the divine blood because they had it.
Moreover, besides Hermes’ blood, the academy actually possessed other forms of divine blood.
Leaving aside the academy’s intentions, the church initially did not know that the divine blood could open a certain door.
Similarly, the royal family did not know that divine power required divine blood.
Therefore, the divine blood they carried might not point to the same celestial god.
Finding the precise divine blood of the twelve celestial gods was not easy.
Regardless, the current situation was that if Stanley Longfellow’s reinterpretation of the prophecy was correct, both the academy and the church might fail to reach their goals due to the lack of a “key.”
Even if they went through great efforts to enter the Heavenly Court, it would be futile. At that point, all sacrifices made during the process would be for naught. This matter was also significant for the academy.
The key question was, what “door” exactly were they referring to? A narrow or broad interpretation?
Was Principal Altair trapped behind a certain door?
The academy considered it less likely and could not discuss such matters openly.
However, the church and the northern faction had to give serious thought to it.
Bishop Sabrina Melville and Gavin North returned to their teams to discuss.
But Count Stanley Longfellow remained.
He sat in place, smiling at Dark, and suddenly said, “I heard that saints cannot casually absorb the divine power of other pantheons, or it will cause chaos in the divine system and collapse of the bloodline.”
Dark looked at him indifferently and said, “So what?” “Nothing. I was just making a casual remark.” Stanley Longfellow chuckled and then turned to Professor Shylph, saying, “The elf’s bloodline is special, so you must be careful.”
Professor Shylph showed no emotion, not even sparing a glance.
Stanley Longfellow then turned to Professor Metia, saying, “This is Lady Metia Bartholomew, the witch of the Silver Moon, the seer with the Starry Eye. I haven’t had the chance to greet you until now. Do you have any prophecies about this mission? Will we succeed?”
Professor Metia looked at him and suddenly smiled, “If you show me the full text of the court prophecy, I might be able to interpret it for you.”
“That’s alright, I was just talking casually,” Stanley Longfellow rubbed his hands and said, “Why didn’t you bring the hero’s child this time? That boy might inherit the legacy of the war god Ares.”
Ophelia slightly frowned.
Dark suddenly exclaimed, “The legacy of the war god Ares? How can one obtain it? What conditions are needed?”
Stanley Longfellow chuckled, “Isn’t it obvious? At least, one needs the qualities of a hero. I heard your golem can use the holy sword, which is unfortunate since it’s not you personally. Otherwise, you could try it out.”
Curiously, Dark asked, “Is that all? Is the legacy of the war god really that easy to obtain?”
“Well…” Stanley Longfellow scratched his head, “I’m not sure. I guess it’s not an easy thing, right? What do you think?”
In his heart, Dark sneered, “Maybe.”
The terms “receiving” and “inheriting” had slight differences.
However, it was certain that Stanley Longfellow was just spouting nonsense. If obtaining the legacy of the war god only required the qualities of a hero, why hadn’t the church brought Saint Son Evan Pearson?
This was clearly unreasonable.
Unless one of the Twin Sacred Knights also had the qualities of a hero and won against Saint Son.
But these details were irrelevant.
The important thing was, what was Stanley Longfellow’s true motive?
Helping Gavin North gain divine power was surely not his real goal!
