Chapter 95: Dispatch
West Suburb of Igewent, St. Amanda School.
At noon, Dorothy, wearing her school uniform, was walking alone in the school’s garden. She looked at her wallet, which had shrunk significantly, with a troubled expression.
After a few inquiries, Dorothy spent a whopping £170 at Audric’s place. The £335 she had painstakingly saved was now reduced to just £165, a significant drop in one go.
“Ha… Although it was quite expensive, at least I got the critical information. To be honest, I didn’t expect to acquire so much information, so this was worth it.”
Dorothy thought to herself. Although she wasn’t in a hurry to deal with that Holy Communion mentor, she needed to do her preliminary intelligence work. While she had a bit of an adventurous spirit, she wouldn’t take risks without assurance; preparations had to be made before any adventure.
Now, although she had learned some information about the mentor, it was still far from enough. The opponent was a step above her and was not as easy to deal with as Buck and the others.
Currently, the activities of the Holy Communion in Igewent had completely ceased. Dorothy hadn’t immediately raided Colif’s home due to the depletion of spirituality. When she returned to White Pearl Street after a break, she found the bookstore completely empty. Dorothy now estimated that the remaining strength of the Holy Communion had concentrated on the mentor.
Overall, although Dorothy had already begun to gather intelligence about the mentor, it wasn’t yet time to take action, as more urgent matters lay before her.
“Pleasant transaction, Miss Meyshos. Although I know you’re busy researching the mysterious and don’t have time to attend classes, I still need to remind you that the end of term is approaching, and your social practice score is still absent. Even if you pass the exam, it will be difficult to achieve a high overall evaluation without a practice score.”
Recalling Audric’s words, Dorothy felt gloomy since she had enrolled mid-term and hadn’t realized how quickly the end of term had come.
“Well… my anti-cult efforts causing such a stir can’t be counted as social practice, really, I have to make time for this useless stuff.”
Thinking this, Dorothy placed her wallet back into her backpack and took out a form listing the recommended social practice projects at St. Amanda School. Most recommended students to internships at various organizations; this was something Dorothy had specifically asked Audric for before leaving.
“It seems I’ll have to pick one to get by after going home…”
Looking at the form in her hand, Dorothy scratched her head and continued walking.
…
In the afternoon, Cedar Shirt Building, basement.
Today, the An Yin Bureau in Igewent was still bustling with activity. James was in the bureau chief’s office reviewing documents when he heard a knock at the door.
“Come in.”
As James spoke, the office door opened to reveal the tall figure of Turner.
“Chief, the house on White Galaxy Shore has been thoroughly investigated.”
Approaching James’s desk, Turner reported. James nodded, adjusted his glasses, and asked, “Well, what are the specifics?”
“The owner of the house is Buck Stall, a member of the Iron Mud Shipping Company’s board of directors, originally from the Ellang Estate. His ancestors were knighted and became wealthy through selling ancestral properties, thus gaining some reputation in Igewent’s upper class.”
“Ha, a knighted ancestor… What about the dry corpse?” James continued to inquire, to which Turner immediately responded.
“The dry corpse found in the secret room has a sigil stamped on it by Gregor, so we can basically confirm that he was one of the Holy Communion leaders who clashed with us at the docks. The corpse is severely desiccated, close to being a mummy, and it’s likely very difficult to restore its appearance. From the identification by the captive, we only know his name is Colif, but nothing else because the surviving captives are all affiliated with Buck’s faction and are unaware of other faction leaders’ specific information.”
“Colif… that’s not a rare name. It’s hard to investigate with just that,” James said, furrowing his brow. Just then, Turner asked another question.
“By the way, Chief, I see the sealing library is upgrading its security and has been closed for a while. Was the last theft that serious?”
“Actually, it wasn’t that serious. Thanks to Ada, we only lost some storage items and one extraordinary item.”
“An extraordinary item flowing to the Holy Communion… Could that be dangerous?” Turner asked, somewhat worried, while James replied casually.
“Ha, you need not worry. The lost item can be played with, but it actually isn’t very useful. If that little brat Brandon knew its purpose, he probably wouldn’t have stolen it.”
“That thing would need some ‘enlightenment’ to be of any use, but if the bureau could apply for ‘enlightenment’, there wouldn’t be a need to feed it; we don’t have enough for so many cases to even use it for divination.”
James chuckled, placed the documents on the table, and continued, “But in any case, the bureau has suffered a loss. It’s a pity that if I hadn’t gone to church that morning, this situation wouldn’t have happened.” James lamented. Hearing his words, Turner complained.
“Hmph, those deity followers, it’s all just about buying some ‘lamps.’ Why do the procedures have to be so troublesome, and why did it have to be you who went?”
“Not just a matter of buying spirituality; there are some official matters to negotiate.”
“Official?” Upon hearing James’s words, Turner was taken aback. James then pushed a document on the desk toward Turner, who raised his eyebrows after reading it.
“A dispatch notification for the Saint Relic Recovery Team from the Tivyán Diocese to Igewent County?”
“Last month, the martyrdom site of the Radiant Church’s Archbishop, ‘Swift Light Sword’ Dikt, was discovered in Hongxi Town. The Tivyán Diocese dispatched the saint relic recovery team here to collect Dikt’s holy remains and relics. Hongxi Town is within Igewent County, so they must notify me in advance about this. The reason I went there that day was to discuss this matter with them.”
James said in a deep voice. Listening to his words, Turner pondered for a moment before speaking directly.
“Hongxi Town… So far? That’s at the border of our county! Are they asking us to help with the collection? We’re so busy lately, and it’s so far. We don’t have enough manpower at all!”
“Not asking for help, but it’s a routine notification along with a request for some intelligence support. After all, there have been signs of heretical activities from the Radiant Church in the southwest of the kingdom recently.”
“Radiant Church heretics…”
“According to intelligence, it should be the ‘Savior’s Incarnation Sect.’ While there are currently no signs in our county, there have been many reports in neighboring counties, so the church is taking this seriously…” While saying this, James stood up, turned, and looked at the large map of Igewent County posted on the wall, focusing on a landmark at the edge of the target area.
“Their recovery team should have arrived today; hopefully, there won’t be any surprises.”
