Chapter 960: Bombing Advance
Ling Meng and Ruo’er had never faced off against each other; their lives had no intersection, the only common ground being Lin Nuo, their most trusted person.
Yet, they stood on opposing sides amidst the conflict between the Immortals and Demons.
Ling Meng led her team in, convinced that the Fox People could do nothing to her, gradually falling into Ruo’er’s trap.
The Demon Beasts stepped forward to guide the way, familiar with the mountains and forests, unbothered by the dense fog.
They had already entered Ruo’er’s Magic Array, cleverly hidden, still unaware of its presence.
“Miss Li, shall we begin?”
“Hm… wait a moment. Our Magic Array can handle more than one Demon Beast. However, we can’t let too many Demon Practitioners get in, or we won’t be able to control them. Everyone, follow my orders, okay?”
Ruo’er wore a bright smile, not because she was being careless, but hoping to ease her clansmen’s worries, preventing them from becoming too nervous and making mistakes.
When disaster looms, as a leader, one mustn’t panic, or how could one lead others to break through?
More and more Demon Beasts entered Ruo’er’s Magic Array, while other roaming troops were still on the move. Ling Meng, however, looked down on these wandering troops, understanding what was important, and pushed forward towards the Spirit Mine.
Almost there.
Ruo’er was observing and calculating, estimating how many Demon Beasts her array could contain. Just as the numbers reached a critical point, she began issuing orders to her clansmen.
“Let’s start, everyone, good work.”
With her sweet voice, Ruo’er commanded the Immortal Foxes and Demon Foxes to perform their spells.
Incantations, infusions, activate!
In an instant, spiritual energy surged, and the concealed Magic Array surfaced.
“Young Master, not good, the hidden array!”
“Just a mere array? Do we Demon Practitioners need to fear such a thing? Those Demon Beasts are powerful; they should be fine.”
“No, Young Master. It seems this array is specifically designed to deal with Demon Beasts!”
The Demon Practitioners’ underlings panicked, as they saw the sturdy and fierce beasts being heavily injured, issuing sufferable wails. Some Demon Practitioners that entered the array were also caught in the chaos, and with successive explosions and shimmering lights, one after another, the Demon Beasts fell to the ground.
This shocked Ling Meng, as the Demon Beasts she led were not weak, and yet they were felled by this mere array.
“What…? Could it be that there are experts among the Fox People?”
Ling Meng regained her focus, realizing it was too late—she hadn’t expected that within this small forest were hidden experts capable of dealing with Demon Beasts.
“Their target is the Demon Beasts, Young Master.”
“I understand. Because of the fog, the Demon Beasts excel at terrain navigation, so they’re planning to crush the Demon Beasts, preventing us from moving forward.”
Ling Meng said, actually having anticipated this move. She believed that if they were to deal with her Demon Beasts, they would definitely catch on; a Magic Array aimed at the Demon Beasts would be hard to conceal its spiritual energy, emitting at least some clues.
“I see.”
Ling Meng thought for a moment, understanding the situation. The constantly moving Fox People were misleading them, making them believe the aura from the array was their own.
This guerrilla tactic resembled what her master used to do.
“I was careless.”
Ling Meng sighed, while her Demon Practitioners remained anxious, immediately asking:
“So, Young Master, what should we do now… should we retreat?”
“Retreat? Impossible. The Fox People hurt my Demon Beasts; I will not let this slide. But they’re obviously in a position of advantage now, and they have ways to deal with our Demon Beasts, making it hard for us to enter. In that case, we’ll drive them into a corner and force them out.”
Ling Meng gradually moved to the front of the troops, observing the fallen Demon Beasts, and continued:
“Listen to my orders, they’re casting spells nearby; we will attack with Magic Bolts. We do not know where they are, so everyone attack.”
With that, Ling Meng summoned her Demon Soul Power into her hands, pointing towards the mountains.
“Like this, let’s destroy this place.”
She then threw a Magic Bolt into the forest, causing an explosion, rising smoke and flames; even with the heavy fog, the firelight could still be seen.
Seeing Ling Meng act first, other Demon Practitioners wouldn’t hold back and immediately gathered their Demon Soul Power to bombard ahead.
“Miss Li, not good, they’re attacking us directly!”
“Hm… let’s retreat. We shouldn’t confront them head-on.”
“Miss Li, we have companions who are injured!”
“Hurry, take them away, I will heal them. Quickly, retreat but don’t head towards our clansmen, or it might cause them harm.”
Ruo’er maintained an astonishing calmness, not allowing the chaos of the Demon Practitioners’ bombardment to disturb her order.
The Fox People quickly retreated, while Ruo’er and the other Immortal Foxes summoned phantasmal beasts to draw the fire, covering their companions’ retreat.
The offensive power of the Demon Practitioners was overwhelming; the Fox People could hardly withstand, continuously falling back.
“They’re retreating inwards.”
Ling Meng smiled, realizing she didn’t need to lift a finger; the Fox People were acting out of their own fear.
Destroying this forest, drawing closer to the Spirit Mine!
The Demon Practitioners bombed their way through, leaving a trail of black smoke and red fire.
Demon Practitioners are truly evil…
Ruo’er gritted her teeth; she was also helpless, her strength insufficient. She thought if she blocked the Demon Beasts, the Demon Practitioners would retreat, but they continued their bombing advance.
Rampant destruction, how many lives were suffering?
Ruo’er hurriedly tended to her injured clansmen and led them to withdraw, gradually falling back.
What would the young master do?
She was uncertain, having initially remained calm but was increasingly flustered; if it truly came down to it, they could only retreat from here.
But where could they go if they retreated? The Fox People had nowhere to take refuge.
Ling Meng’s momentum grew fierce, and the Fox People in the forest observed the smoke and fire with fear, feeling as though disaster was imminent.
“What to do, what to do…”
They were anxious, having enjoyed rare peace, now again forced to flee without knowing where to go.
“Miss Li, what shall we do, what shall we do?”
The Fox People asked urgently. Ruo’er felt ashamed, addressing her clansmen:
“I’m sorry, everyone, I couldn’t stop the Demon Practitioners from advancing…”
“No, no, we don’t blame Miss Li. Honestly, at your young age, having this sense of responsibility, we really admire you. Now that the Demon Star has fallen and the Demon Practitioners have grown stronger, it is indeed hard for us to do anything about them. If it really comes to it, we can only leave this place.”
The Fox People understood Ruo’er; after all, fighting against the Demon Practitioners was challenging, but giving it a try was still worth it; if it truly didn’t work, retreat was inevitable.
“I’m sorry… we can only retreat…”
Ruo’er sighed, already considering plans to withdraw from the forest.
But they found it inappropriate, as now the outside was gradually becoming the territory of the Demon Practitioners, and they were directionless, unsure how to break through their territory, making it difficult to escape.
What to do…
At this moment, another leader led a group of Demon Practitioners toward them.
