Chapter 968: A Divine Beast’s Mischief?
This bizarre thunderstorm had Lin Nuo exhaust several useful Dao Fu, but it did not completely stop the storm.
Its origin was unknown and impossible to resolve fundamentally.
Forget it, it had nothing to do with him; he was merely a bystander.
As the thunder roared louder, Lin Nuo felt the wind rush all around him, with nature’s tempest closing in, yet he remained unrestrained by the storm.
Charge forth, go!
With a burst of energy, Lin Nuo’s speed surged, and no amount of thundering lightning could touch him.
He charged through as the sky rumbled, the earth exploded in a sequence of blasts, thick smoke billowed, and heavy rain poured down. A Small Light Circle shimmered around Lin Nuo, not shielding him from the lightning but rather keeping him dry; he certainly couldn’t walk around soaked.
He succeeded! Despite several strikes, the lightning couldn’t hit him as he broke through the thunderstorm.
Once outside, he entered another world; within that dark cloud and roaring thunder, he emerged into clear skies with neither rain nor thunder.
It was as if a grand Barrier confined the natural disaster zone.
“Truly troublesome.”
Lin Nuo ceased his technique and sat down, feeling as if he had slipped into a dream, thinking he had crossed over.
“Such a thing never appeared before; I fear…”
After a moment’s thought, Lin Nuo realized that the world was changing drastically, no longer following the pace of his previous life.
This made him feel a bit worried; if such unprecedented calamities arose, it signified the plot had moved toward an entirely uncontrollable direction.
Forget it, he should focus on his own matters.
After resting a bit, Lin Nuo stood up, dusted himself off, and continued on his way.
At that moment, he noticed his Spirit Sword trembling slightly, seeming a bit anxious.
“Hmm? What are you two doing?”
Lin Nuo pressed his hand against the Spirit Sword, trying to calm it down; the thunderstorm had even stirred unrest in the Sword Soul.
So, this storm was indeed something.
“Come out, you two.”
Lin Nuo scolded sharply, gathering his power to strike the Spirit Sword with a palm, forcibly drawing out the Dragon and Phoenix Souls. The Phoenix was red, the Dragon was blue, and they circled around Lin Nuo.
Though the Sword Souls couldn’t speak, their presence allowed Lin Nuo to sense their thoughts.
“I see.”
After the two Sword Souls circled him, Lin Nuo understood some things.
This thunderstorm was indeed not a natural disaster; someone was causing it.
To be precise, it was the work of beastmen, transformed beings.
Only a divine level entity could create such a massive thunderstorm.
However, this divine beast was well-concealed, and he hadn’t sensed it was behind the mischief. Yet, the Sword Soul was sensitive and detected it after several thunderous roars, even making the Spirit Sword tremble.
That was the pressure of authority—the strong over the weak.
Though there was an element of concealment involved, Lin Nuo felt the divine beast was far from him, or perhaps they were merely players in a game he stumbled into; he was the one being looked down upon.
Or maybe he was too hasty and hadn’t taken the time to investigate, too focused on moving forward.
In the world, there were only a handful of notorious divine beasts known for inciting massive disturbances. He couldn’t recall one capable of summoning such storms.
It was truly something to ponder.
For now, he had no idea which divine beast was involved. Naturally, should it remain alive, he would undoubtedly encounter it again in the future.
“Alright, you two are already out of the thunderstorm zone, yet you’re still frightened. Can’t you act a bit more composed?”
Lin Nuo sighed; they often liked to jump out and play around, yet now they were frightened by an unknown divine beast, completely losing their spirit.
“Enough, come back, wash up, and rest, you two.”
Lin Nuo raised the sword and called back the Dragon and Phoenix Souls. They circled around once before Lin Nuo calmed them down with a bit of magic, and the Sword stopped trembling.
That Demon Sword from his previous life was much better; at least its Soul didn’t embarrass him like this.
Lin Nuo turned to look back at the thunderstorm zone; that area seemed to have settled down, unable to expand further. The larger the area, the greater the consumption.
It could only be viewed as an anti-human force, devastating land and livelihood; their actions were far worse than those of any Demon Practitioners and their beasts.
At this rate, he might soon be visited by Sister Su or Luo Xiaoxue, who would come to drive it away.
No time to care; he left.
With a gust of wind beneath his feet, Lin Nuo vanished in the blink of an eye.
…
Ling Meng’s troops were temporarily stationed in the mountains. The Fox People, while still alive, had lost their freedom and were under Ling Meng’s watch.
Ling Meng learned much about Lin Nuo from Ruo’er, especially that in the initial years after he entered the Xuanyun Sect, he was subjected to ridicule and disregard, making her quite upset.
“Damn Xuanyun Sect, my master is a generation’s master of demonic arts! How could they accept such humiliation!”
Ling Meng seethed through gritted teeth.
“Xuanyun Sect will surely be destroyed!”
“Although the young master suffered many grievances in Xuanyun Sect, he has never mentioned wanting to destroy it. Please do not impose your own thoughts onto the young master,” Ruo’er countered Ling Meng, asserting that the Demon Woman’s thinking completely contradicted the young master’s principles.
“Indeed, you’re right.”
Ling Meng conceded to Ruo’er’s words.
“Perhaps my master has other plans and doesn’t mind a trifling Xuanyun Sect. However, the destruction of Xuanyun Sect is only a matter of time.”
“The young master is a great hero.”
“A great hero? Yes, there are indeed rumors among the people. Moreover, he has achieved much and has even slain numerous Demon Practitioners from the Refining Demon Sect. Many despise him; I once did too. But you are too naive; this is merely part of his greater plan. All the Demon Powers I cultivate were guided by him; there’s no one else under heaven who understands the essence of Demon Power better than him. The Demon Star is an opportunity; he has completely left Xuanyun Sect and stepped into the path of demonic arts. The world ultimately belongs to the demonic path.”
“Enough, Ling Meng, please stop discussing this with Ruo’er. After hearing so much from her, you must believe that she is the junior brother’s servant now, right?” Liu Shuqin interjected, sensing that if Ling Meng continued, Ruo’er’s state of mind might be affected greatly.
“I stand by my words; even if she is, she was only once. She is an Immortal, unlike us. I won’t kill her or those Fox People; I can manage only so much. Everything ultimately lies in my master’s hands.”
Ling Meng stated, just as a subordinate rushed in to report:
“Report! Young Master! We are currently under attack by a group of Immortal Foxes; our troops are being assaulted. We request support and arrangements!”
“Immortal Foxes attacking?”
Upon hearing this, Ling Meng’s gaze shifted to Ruo’er.
“Are they your people? Here to save you?”
“No, our companions are all right here,” Ruo’er replied.
“Stop pretending with me!”
Ling Meng furiously retorted. She had just spared these Fox People’s lives, and now a horde of Immortal Foxes attacked her forces.
She glared at Liu Shuqin, indignantly saying:
“Well, you Liu Shuqin set up this trap for us, didn’t you?”
“I know nothing of this; I did not set any trap for you. If Ruo’er isn’t lying, then these Immortal Foxes may have come from elsewhere. I am willing to accompany you to take a look,” Liu Shuqin defended.
