Chapter 113

### Chapter 113: So Shameless

After drying her hair and tossing the towel aside, Xia Ling got cozy with Xia Yu out of curiosity: “Little Sister, what are you looking at?”

Xia Yu: “…”

Just then, Xia Hong and Wang Wenjuan came home and opened the door, followed by two men in work clothes.

When they entered, Xia Hong ignored Xia Yu and Xia Ling sitting together on the sofa. He directed the two movers carrying a large refrigerator: “Just put it here.”

You got it—the two men were movin’ experts Xia Hong had hired.

Once the movers had put the fridge just where he wanted it, Xia Hong, finally free to look over, saw Xia Yu and Xia Ling still with some damp hair from their showers and wearing dresses. Even though he already suspected as much, he couldn’t help but ask, “Xiao Yu, Xiao Ling, did you two just have a bath?”

“Yeah.”

Xia Ling answered, while Xia Yu remained silent.

“Alright then, if that’s the case…”

Sighing, Xia Hong turned to his wife, who was helping carry up an electric rice cooker: “Wenjuan, why don’t you go take a shower now? After we eat out.”

With that said, Xia Hong continued to direct the movers and himself down to move more things.

He originally planned for Xia Yu and Xia Ling to help, but since they’d bathed, and both wore dresses unfit for the dirty work, Xia Hong had to handle everything alone with the movers.

Over an hour later, after going up and down in the elevator eight or nine times, Xia Hong and the movers finally had everything moved into the new house.

By then, Wang Wenjuan had also showered and dressed in a very refreshing skirt like Xia Yu and Xia Ling did.

Looking at her husband, who was settling up with the movers, she could tell there was more to handle. Instead of pretending to understand, she headed directly to the couch where Xia Yu and Xia Ling were seated.

“Did you two leave me no seat space?”

Xia Ling snuggled closer, while Wang Wenjuan took the middle spot between them, indicating they should split.

Even aware of her mother’s intention, Xia Ling preferred hugging Xia Yu tighter and nestled against her shoulder.

Xia Yu sighed.

After sending the moving crew off with pay and cigarettes, Xia Hong took another couple of bottles of water for them as well.

Maybe Xia Hong’s approach made him well-liked. Certainly, Xia Yu thought her dad had good people skills and a great reputation.

As he passed through the living room, Xia Hong reminded his family, “Wait for me—after I’m clean, we’ll all eat out.”

“Great!”

For something like this, Xia Ling would always be the most eager.

Seeing Xia Ling so attached to Xia Yu, Wenjuan sat on the other side of the couch, accepting the compromise.

Now that Xia Hong went for a shower, Wang Wenjuan had time to chat with her kids.

She couldn’t help but comment on Xia Yu’s outfit, despite her dislike for skirts, “Xiao Yu, aren’t you against skirts? How come you’re wearing one now?”

“Uh…”

Before Xia Yu could answer, Xia Ling eagerly stepped in, lifting her head with pride, “That’s because my sister’s clothes got left behind, so we had to wear these. Aren’t they pretty?”

Yes, Xia Ling considered herself in line with their mom, thinking Wang Wenjuan would praise her for turning Xia Yu so adorable.

As expected, Wenjuan smiled hearing this news.

While she didn’t want Xia Ling and Xia Yu too close, she secretly enjoyed Xia Yu’s cute outfits.

This didn’t cause any conflict at all!

And Xia Yu’s natural charm didn’t hurt either.

Wang Wenjuan lamented that Xia Yu hadn’t been born a girl. If she were, life would be so much easier.

Laughing, Wenjuan sighed, recognizing Xia Yu was Xia Ling’s second brother only to Xia Yu. It wasn’t wrong to get close, but outside she shouldn’t cling to boys.

“That’s not true! She’s my sister, not brother,” Xia Ling contested stubbornly.

Xia Yu was done struggling—fewer words since Jiang Kekai’s departure.

Unless questioned, she’d stay silent and unbothered.

Which was fine.

Seeing Xia Yu sit quietly, Wang Wenjuan felt a mix of relief and worry. There were no disruptions, which she appreciated, but Xia Yu’s quietness reflected her sickness.

Having hinted at Xia Ling’s insistence on calling Xia Yu ‘sister’, and Xia Yu’s indifference, their dynamics were harmless.

Wang Wenjuan decided to let them play, as long as they were happy.

Shrugging off the situation, Wang Wenjuan pulled out her phone.

Seeing Mom gave up, Xia Ling rejoiced, assuming her older sister status was accepted.

Within fifteen minutes, Xia Hong emerged from the bathroom in typical house-atmosphere mode: relaxed, in shorts, chest bare—very…commanding.

“Get ready—we’re eating out.”

Moments later, Xia Hong returned to his room for clothes. Xia Yu and Xia Ling knew exactly what that meant—they had to get their shoes on pronto.

Ten minutes later, the family was on its way.

The neighborhood’s prime location meant short streets; they walked without needing a car.

Wenjuan and Xia Hong led, Xia Ling clinging to Xia Yu. Passers-by admired their matching cute faces.

They weren’t going to any fancy restaurant; Xia Hong kept things casual by bringing the family to a small local joint.

No complaints there. For them, any outing was rare enough.

Soon, they settled in for a feast—fried chicken, mapo tofu, spicy beef, eggflower soup, and two orders of oysters.

“Are you sure about all those oysters?” Wenjuan teased Xia Hong.

“It’s all good. Oysters are nutritious, and there’s plenty for everyone.”

Seeing her husband’s resolve, Wenjuan conceded with a shrug.

As the waitress confirmed their order, Xia Yu, unusually talkative, inquired politely, “Excuse me, is there a restroom nearby?”

“Not now, honey. It broke down this morning and hasn’t been fixed yet. But there’s a mall across the street where you can find one.”

Impressed by such a cute question, the waitress eagerly helped.

If she could, she’d escort Xia Yu straight to the toilet, but alas—rules applied.

Xia Yu needed consent before leaving. Seeking permission, she asked her parents for bathroom break.

“Go ahead, return soon.”

Dad agreed swiftly, viewing Xia Yu’s autonomy positively.

Mom, however, still concerned about safety, offered her presence.

Uncharacteristically, Xia Yu declined, heading off confidently. Xia Ling, surprisingly, followed suit.

Facing her parents, Xia Ling retorted shamelessly, “What? Don’t I need to use the bathroom too?”
