Chapter 124: Confrontation
Little did anyone know… at this moment, Wang Wenjuan was somewhat hesitant.
Yes, she and Xia Hong had been married for so long that she knew his temperament pretty well, but in this matter, she really couldn’t judge anything and therefore didn’t want to make any promises to Xia Ling.
She could accept her child like this, but if Xia Hong really couldn’t accept it, would they really send Xia Yu away? Thinking about this, Wang Wenjuan felt that it would be too cruel for Xia Yu.
Judging by Xia Yu’s past habits, Wang Wenjuan thought this wasn’t something Xia Yu chose, otherwise she wouldn’t have to hide it so deliberately.
Seeing her mother silent for a long while, Xia Ling seemed to guess what was going on and felt a bit crestfallen: “If you all can’t accept my little sister like this and want her to leave, then I will leave with her.”
Upon hearing this, Wang Wenjuan gently patted Xia Ling’s head and smiled: “Didn’t your mom just say, you’re all my children, and I won’t abandon you.”
“But it’s just so sad that sis has to become like this. Mom, what will we do if dad doesn’t accept it?”
“Well, now I’m also thinking about this. Our money is all managed by your dad. If he can’t accept it, I don’t know what to do.”
“So… does sis still have to keep hiding?”
“This seems to be the best way now. Tomorrow if those folks from the Jiang family come again, I’ll ask them about Little Yu’s situation.”
As she spoke, Wang Wenjuan glanced at Xia Yu resting quietly on the bed, then couldn’t help but sigh. Why did her own child get tangled up in such a mess? “The Jiang family? Is this related to them?”
Wang Wenjuan frowned: “Didn’t Xiao Yu tell you? The people who took her away back then were from the Jiang family.”
“No, sis didn’t tell me.”
Wang Wenjuan patted Xia Ling’s head again, got up, and picked up two boxed lunches: “Let’s eat first, or the food will get cold. Don’t worry about Xiao Yu, mom will take care of it.”
“Okay.”
Since Wang Wenjuan had said that, Xia Ling immediately understood that she didn’t want to discuss this anymore, so she gracefully started to eat lunch with her box.
After finishing the lunch, Wang Wenjuan immediately started dealing with the trash. She looked at the medical report on the table for Xia Yu and thought about it. Eventually, she decided to treat it like another piece of trash and threw it in the same bag as the lunch boxes.
Xia Ling watched silently, perhaps guessing how her mom intended to deal with Xia Yu. The next morning, as the dean predicted, Xia Yu woke up at dawn.
Lazily opening her eyes and looking at the clean ceiling, Xia Yu suddenly remembered last night’s events. Turning her head to look at her surroundings and family members, she guessed that she must have been saved.
Sure enough, as soon as Xia Ling discovered Xia Yu was awake, she became excited, wanting to hug Xia Yu but fearing she might hurt her wounds. So, she could only tightly hold Xia Yu’s arm to express her feelings.
At the same time, Xia Ling informed the lightly sleeping Wang Wenjuan: “Mom, sis is awake.”
Wang Wenjuan was only lightly asleep and very sensitive to her surroundings. Hearing Xia Ling’s words, she immediately woke up. Seeing Xia Yu awake, Xia Yu was looking at her and Xia Ling with weak eyes, Wang Wenjuan asked gently, “Xiao Yu, are you hungry? Should mom go buy some porridge for you?”
However, Xia Yu shook her head and weakly replied, “No, I don’t want to eat.”
“Your body is so weak. You need to eat more to recover,” Wang Wenjuan said with concern as she looked at Xia Ling and instructed further, “Xiao Ling, take good care of Xiao Yu. I’ll go buy breakfast for all of you.”
With that, Xia Yu and Xia Ling were left alone in the room.
After carefully closing the door shut behind her, Xia Ling hurriedly told Xia Yu the news: “Sis, mom knows about your condition, but it wasn’t me who told her; she found out herself.”
Originally, Xia Yu was weakly lying in the bed, but when she heard Xia Ling’s words, her face turned pale, and she started sweating profusely.
Seeing this, Xia Ling quickly used a tissue to wipe the sweat off Xia Yu and continued, “But don’t be scared, mom won’t hate you even if she knows.”
“What about dad?”
Xia Yu looked at Xia Ling with hope.
Hearing this question, Xia Ling’s face became helpless: “Dad doesn’t know yet. Yesterday, it was Mom and I taking care of you. She saw your medical report, found out, and didn’t tell Dad.”
“If you tell Mom not to tell Dad, will you?” “Okay, you could stay here and listen.”
Finished talking, Xia Ling, like Wang Wenjuan, rubbed Xia Yu’s head and smiled: “Actually, sis, you don’t need to be afraid. We’ll leave together if they don’t accept you and make it hard for them to get by without their little warm coat.”
For some reason, hearing this, Xia Yu smiled happily, as if Xia Ling had warmed her heart.
Soon after, Wang Wenjuan came back with three bowls of white porridge.
Knowing Xia Yu wouldn’t be in the mood to eat until her worries were addressed, Xia Ling spoke up as soon as Wang Wenjuan placed the porridge in the cabinet, “Mom, sis hopes you won’t tell dad about this.”
Wang Wenjuan froze, then looked at the weak Xia Yu softly, asking, “Xiao Yu, are you really thinking this way?”
“Yes,” Xia Yu responded weakly.
“Alright. Since that’s how you feel, I’ll keep it a secret, you don’t need to worry.”
This statement made Wang Wenjuan feel helpless. At this point, she could only go along with whatever would make Xia Yu happy, otherwise, Xia Yu might reject her. This was also the safest path—hide it now and talk later when the timing is right.
Indeed, as expected, Xia Yu’s face brightened once more. Probably because most of her worries were lifted.
“Okay, Xiao Yu. You didn’t eat last night, probably getting hungry now? Let’s start with some porridge.”
As she spoke, Wang Wenjuan began to open one of the steaming hot bowls of porridge, releasing its sweet, milky fragrance. At this moment, there was a knock on the door.
“Xiao Ling, could you open the door?” Wang Wenjuan said as she stirred the porridge with a spoon while standing next to Xia Ling.
“Yes, mom,” Xia Ling replied.
Initially, Xia Ling planned to find a chance to tell Wang Wenjuan that she wanted to feed Xia Yu herself. Now, with someone else there, she had to go and open the door.
To Xia Ling’s surprise, the visitors entering were none other than Jiang Bin, Zhang Yunzhi, and Jiang Kekai, who had taken leave from school to go with him.
Last night’s conversation with her mother played repeatedly in Xia Ling’s mind, so she didn’t know how to deal with this family. Hadn’t it been because of them, Xia Yu wouldn’t be living in constant fear of losing a certain “thing” every day?
Jiang Kekai first laid her focus on Xia Yu’s bed, realizing that Xia Yu was awake, her face lit up with joy. Immediately, she exclaimed, “Xiao Yu, you finally woke up!”
Xiao Yu was somewhat surprised by Jiang Kekai’s enthusiasm, and weakly answered, “Yes.”
Jiang Kekai then noticed Wang Wenjuan preparing to feed porridge to Xia Yu. She requested politely, “Auntie, can I feed Xiao Yu the porridge?”
“Yes.”
Without hesitating, Wang Wenjuan handed the bowl of porridge to Jiang Kekai.
Now, she wanted to have a serious talk with Jiang Bin about certain matters—like Xia Yu’s situation.
Standing confidently, she addressed Jiang Bin and Zhang Yunzhi: “Could we step outside to discuss something?”
“Sure,” Jiang Bin agreed.
Thus, Wang Wenjuan left Xia Yu’s room with Jiang Bin and Zhang Yunzhi.
Indeed, Wang Wenjuan didn’t want Xia Yu’s kids to know about the conversation, as it could seriously impact their future health.
Completely unconcerned about adult matters, Jiang Kekai’s immediate concern was feeding Xia Yu.
So, Jiang Kekai began bringing a spoonful of porridge near her lips, and blowing on it to cool it down before putting it near Xia Yu’s mouth, saying with a smile, “Xiao Yu, open your mouth.”
Seeing this, Xia Yu hesitated about letting Jiang Kekai continue feeding her, feeling quite embarrassed.
Yet, just before Xia Yu could decide, Jiang Kekai already put the spoon near Xia Yu’s lips, making her blushingly open her mouth. Watching this, Xia Ling felt very frustrated. Clearly, she also wanted to feed Xia Yu herself, but Jiang Kekai beat her to it, making Xia Ling feel bad.
Meanwhile, the trio of Wang Wenjuan, Jiang Bin, and Zhang Yunzhi stepped out into the hallway.
Due to it being a VIP floor, there weren’t many people around. They could speak without being overheard.
Wang Wenjuan didn’t beat around the bush but directly confronted Jiang Bin sternly: “Mr. Jiang, may I ask what you did to Xiao Yu during the time she was kidnapped by your group?”
This question caught Jiang Bin off guard. It dawned on him; he forgot to instruct the dean to change Xia Yu’s information…
