Chapter 126: How About Staying at Your Place for a While?
Since she had nothing better to do, Wang Wenjuan simply found a chair and sat next to Jiang Kekai and Xia Yu, “Xiao Ning, can I ask you something? Why do you like my little Yu so much?”
“Eh? I like her because I like her, how should I know why I like her?”
Indeed, Jiang Kekai really didn’t know why she liked Xia Yu so much. Just a few days of interaction and her fondness for Xia Yu skyrocketed to an unbelievable degree.
Maybe… it was true love at first sight, she always felt Xia Yu suited her well in both personality and appearance. “Do you know what happened to little Yu?” Wang Wenjuan asked again.
“I know.”
Jiang Kekai did not deny this fact and continued, “But does that matter? I just like playing with little Yu.” Hearing this, Wang Wenjuan couldn’t help but smile helplessly. She never expected her child’s allure would be so potent as to ‘hold’ this young lady’s interest.
“Well then, if that’s the case, you can chat with Xia Yu and Xiao Ling. I haven’t slept all night, so I need to take a nap now.”
When Wang Wenjuan decided to leave, Jiang Kekai’s eyes lit up. Excitedly, she said, “No problem, Auntie, you go rest. I’ll take care of Xia Yu.” Indeed, if this adult were to stay here, Jiang Kekai might feel somewhat constrained and uncomfortable, which would not be ideal.
However, when Wang Wenjuan left, it made Jiang Kekai much more relaxed. As for Xia Ling, her coeval, Jiang Kekai did not care. “Hmm, Ling, remember to text me if anything happens. I’ll come back at lunchtime.”
After giving Xia Ling these final instructions, Wang Wenjuan wearily left the room. The reason she was so at ease was that this young lady, Jiang Kekai, was there.
Wang Wenjuan thought that since Jiang Kekai was around, Xia Yu should be fine. Plus, she was glad to offer the children some space to interact. Naturally, when she stepped out of the ward door, she was startled by the four black-suited bodyguards stationed outside. But given the recent events, it was natural that Jiang Bin would have increased security for Jiang Kekai.
This only reassured Wang Wenjuan, knowing that multiple layers of protection would ensure everything was in order.
The movie ended swiftly, and just as Jiang Kekai was about to switch to another film and continue watching with Xia Yu, Xia Yu spoke up, “Xiao Ning sister, my head feels dizzy, I don’t want to watch anymore.”
“Dizzy? Are you feeling very uncomfortable? Do you want me to call a doctor?”
When Xia Yu wasn’t feeling well, even the usually calm Jiang Kekai panicked.
This was the third time she had been anxious; the first was when Xia Yu got shot, the second was during the operation, and now, this. Sitting by her side, Xia Ling was feeling nervous as she knew Xia Yu was her twin sibling. “Sis, let’s call a doctor to check on her?”
Seeing how worried both Jiang Kekai and Xia Ling were, Xia Yu felt even worse. Instead of being happy about their concern, she felt more distressed due to her condition. She felt helpless, unable, and worthless, unworthy of others’ attention and assistance.
This was Xia Yu’s condition.
So Xia Yu felt troubled again, especially as her mother also had to skip work to take care of her. In her mind, she was indeed a burden.
Thinking this way, tears started to flow from Xia Yu’s eyes, rolling down her cheeks before dropping onto her pillow.
Psychological illnesses can be quite peculiar. They don’t show up until they hit hard. And no one could understand the turmoil happening inside her head.
Observing Xia Yu’s state, Jiang Kekai concluded she must be physically unwell. Without hesitation, she pressed the emergency button by the bed. Xia Yu, being a VIP patient, immediately summoned various medical experts and the surrounding bodyguards into the ward.
“Her brain has a concussion, hence the dizziness. Rest more,” the brain specialist confirmed. Other medical experts examined Xia Yu’s surgical wound and agreed she was recovering well due to the best medication available. They suggested attempting some light physical activity later in the afternoon.
“Why is Xia Yu crying?” Jiang Kekai inquired.
The experts responded, “We’re unsure. It could be due to dizziness or possibly fatigue, or something else. Maybe asking Xia Yu directly will clear things.”
After hearing this, Jiang Kekai dismissed everyone. “You can leave now. Let Xia Yu rest.”
With the medics gone, the bodyguards also stood guard at the door, leaving Xia Yu, Xia Ling, and Wang Wenjuan in the ward alone.
Remembering what the doctor had said, Jiang Kekai decided to give it a try. She gently wiped Xia Yu’s tears and inquired, “Xiao Yu, is something bothering you? Can you tell me what’s wrong?”
To her surprise, Xia Yu continued to silently cry while staring at the ceiling. Hearing Jiang Kekai’s words, Xia Yu cried even harder.
Panicking, Jiang Kekai turned to Xia Ling, seeking advice. Xia Ling shook her head, indicating she was clueless.
Frustrated, Jiang Kekai softly stroked Xia Yu’s head and comforted her, “Don’t cry, Xia Yu. Stop making yourself look like a panda. I’ll be here for you. If anything’s troubling you, tell me. Okay?”
Jiang Kekai was rather mature for her age. Not only were the rural children forced to handle responsibilities early, but the ‘young ladies’ also had to mature faster. Therefore, they needed to learn knowledge unsuitable for their age.
Previously, Jiang Kekai and her siblings not only attended school but also had to practice additional skills like business, language, music, combat, and cultural education.
With abundant wealth, the tutors ensured rapid progress amongst the children. Jiang Kekai could even confidently tackle university entrance exams now.
Her early maturity stemmed from various factors, which shaped her current behavior.
On the other hand, sitting quietly, Xia Ling observed Jiang Kekai comforting Xia Yu and realized her gap in comparison.
“d*mn, why is it that she’s so good at comforting Xia Yu? Now she doesn’t get any chance to shine,” Xia Ling grumbled inwardly.
Nonetheless, Xia Ling didn’t join Jiang Kekai in comforting Xia Yu. She knew this wasn’t the time for any playful interference; she could only hope Jiang Kekai’s efforts would yield results soon. Otherwise, she might have to call her mother.
Fortunately, in a few minutes, Jiang Kekai’s efforts took effect. Xia Yu stopped crying and said, “Nothing, I just feel a bit sleepy.”
Whether Xia Ling and Jiang Kekai believed Xia Yu’s words was another matter.
Even if they didn’t believe her, Jiang Kekai didn’t reveal her thoughts. With a forced smile, she agreed, “If you’re tired, then rest. I’ll stay with you.”
Xia Yu nodded faintly and closed her eyes to sleep.
To avoid disturbing Xia Yu, Jiang Kekai pulled out her phone and showed Xia Ling her QQ add a friend page, hinting she should add her. Uncertain about the motives, Xia Ling still obeyed.
Sure enough, immediately after adding the friend, Jiang Kekai asked Xia Ling a question, “Does Xia Yu often appear like this at home?”
Xia Ling pondered and agreed that it occasionally happened.
“She knows the reason?” Jiang Kekai further inquired.
“Partially, I guess it’s her mental illness acting up. I’ve looked up information on this.”
“Well, then, can I stay with you guys for a while? I don’t feel comfortable leaving Xia Yu alone. If needed, I can share a room with her.”
Xia Ling paused, “Why are you always trying to interfere with my sister? Don’t you have a sister?”
“Yes, I have a sister too. But I really enjoy spending time with Xia Yu. Why is it a problem?”
“You better keep your distance.”
