Chapter 36: The Pillar of the Theater Group – Audience Performer
Sigh
After receiving the meeting notification, Night Lan left Zero Meow’s room and headed to the meeting place alone, feeling slightly depressed.
“Oh geez…”
“Why do I, a person who doesn’t have to do anything, have to attend this meeting?”
Night Lan had a rather clear understanding of her role.
At the Night Watcher base, she was essentially a person who didn’t do much, spending her days with a salary but doing nothing.
Like her, an edge player with little recognition should not be required for important meetings.
“Ah well, I’ll just go there to be part of the crowd. It shouldn’t be noticeable if I slack off at the meeting. Ugh, yes, that’s what I’ll do. I’ll make sure to sit in the last row and most hidden corner.”
As she thought, Night Lan quickened her pace towards the meeting room.
A short while later, Night Lan arrived at the spacious meeting room and quietly found herself a spot at the back, sitting in the corner and observing secretly.
Now, looking around, there were about a few dozen people, mostly mature adults, like the workplace environment.
Night Lan felt that such an atmosphere didn’t fit her, so she decided not to mingle.
“Who are these people? I’ve never seen them before.” Night Lan mumbled to herself.
She had been at the Night Watcher base for quite some time now. Though she couldn’t name all the Night Watchers, she could remember the faces of those she bumped into once or twice. She could even recognize their silhouettes just by seeing their backs.
But everyone in this meeting room had a strange, unfamiliar silhouette to Night Lan.
Presumably, they were all Night Watchers from other cities?
Night Lan narrowed her eyes as if contemplating something.
“Hmmm, I think I’ve figured it out. This meeting is probably gathering Night Watchers from other cities to discuss matters regarding the Tragic Shadow Theater. That must be right.”
“Yes, you’re not dumb.”
A voice suddenly echoed beside Night Lan, startling her.
“Eep!”
Night Lan jumped up immediately, turned her head, and realized it was someone she knew, then she relaxed.
“Mo Tu? You’re here for the meeting too?”
Mo Tu smiled and nodded.
“I count as a Night Watcher, attending this meeting is normal.”
“But it seems this meeting isn’t open to all Night Watchers; does this mean you hold an important position?”
“Sort of, it’s not a very crucial one.”
Night Lan pondered.
“But why did I receive the meeting notice? I don’t do any work, I’m just living off the system like a parasite here.”
“Because it was me who sent the notice,” Mo Tu casually mentioned.
“What?” Night Lan was flabbergasted.
So, it was you exploiting my slacking time?
Darn it!
Mo Tu glanced at her and casually said, “Don’t look so displeased. Aren’t you curious? There might be something powerful Night Watchers from other places, which might affect your friends, right?”
“Uh… yeah.”
Thinking about it, listening to these Night Watchers’ discussions wouldn’t be a waste of her slacking time. A few measly minutes shouldn’t matter.
Night Lan shifted her gaze toward the unfamiliar Night Watchers and asked curiously.
“Are Night Watchers from outside the city really strong?”
Mo Tu leaned lazily against the chair back, barely interested.
“There are a few who are almost out of this world. Just pay attention.”
“Oh…”
Out-of-this-world individuals… Is it what she thought?
Night Lan decided to reserve judgment.
Just then, the meeting began.
All the Night Watchers returned to their designated spots, and the scene gradually quieted down.
Sitting on top were two figures—the Sunlight Night Watcher from Yun Chang City—Xiao Jin and Wang Chao.
Night Lan had impressions of both of them.
After all, one was her boss, and the other was a nice old senior.
Wang Chao seemed indifferent, while Xiao Jin looked rather serious.
“I presume everyone is aware of the situation in Yun Chang City. This time, the goal of our campaign is the Tragic Shadow Theater. However, compared to before, the Tragic Shadow Theater has undergone some slight changes and reached a level where a single city’s Night Watchers cannot deal with it alone. If anyone still has doubts, please review the current information on the Tragic Shadow Theater; it should provide a clearer picture of the present situation.”
No sooner had he finished speaking than the large screen in front lit up instantly, presenting crystal-clear images for everyone to see.
The large screen displayed the current information on the Tragic Shadow Theater, each member’s profile recorded.
Sitting at the rear, Night Lan widened her eyes and stared dumbfounded at the image on the screen.
This was different from what she had seen before. Had it been updated?
When did it get updated?
Night Lan squinted and noticed that three new members had been added to the Tragic Shadow Theater:
Puppet Master, Singer, and Audience Performer.
“Hold on, Audience Performer?”
Quickly, Night Lan spotted a blind spot. Her profile was listed there too!
Wow!
This was officially sanctioned by the Night Watchers, officially recognized by the official records. Her Night Star will eventually become an enemy of the Night Watchers!
Yet, inexplicably, Night Lan felt a tiny bit excited.
Why is this happening?
Shaking off the thought, Night Lan focused her attention on the profiles on the big screen.
The effect of the Star Eclipses of the Group Leader seemed refreshed.
There were also several new notes about the Fraudster and Gentleman, concerning information about their eclipse effects when they lose control.
Puppet Master and Singer were listed under the category of Supernova Star Eclipses, although the former had slightly more details whereas the latter only had a brief sentence which she quickly glanced over.
And then, the main event began:
Audience Performer!
Excitedly, Night Lan read through the Audience Performer’s profile, wondering how the Night Watchers described her.
However, the audience performer’s profile started off with an unexpected line that left Night Lan in a daze.
Audience Performer (Mascot).
“What the heck is ‘mascot’ supposed to mean!?”
Emotions overrode her, and she couldn’t help shouting out loud in the somewhat quiet meeting room, grabbing everyone’s attention.
Everyone in front turned around upon hearing the voice and focused their gazes on one person.
Mo Tu shrugged, looking innocent.
“Why are you looking at me? It wasn’t me who said it.”
Facing the others’ stares, Mo Tu remained completely calm without a hint of fear.
Seeing this, the Night Watchers refocused their attention on the documents in front of them.
After a moment, Night Lan’s head emerged from behind the chair next to Mo Tu, breathing a sigh of relief.
“Phew… Luckily, no one noticed.”
Speaking of which, Night Lan puffed out her cheeks slightly and looked rather resentful at the words on the screen.
“If I find out who edited this document, I swear I’ll wish upon a star to show him my fury.”
Hearing this, Mo Tu glanced away, trying hard to hide himself, as if he would whistle soon.
This little loli held a grudge pretty well. Let’s hope she forgets about it for as long as possible.
Yep, that’s it.
However…
After reading one line in the document, Night Lan fell silent.
“A pillar of the theater group…”
Was she really this type of character?
