Chapter 41: Starting with the Remodeled Singer
In the Fish Playing House.
White Fish and Lianhua were deep in friendly conversation, leaving Night Star Lan hanging out like a forgotten laundry.
But that was fine!
Night Star Lan felt quite pleased.
The fact that White Fish and Lianhua could get along was a fantastic outcome for her.
Looking at it this way, bringing White Fish over to meet Lianhua was indeed a stroke of genius!
Just then, Eypar floated over to Night Star, her eyes sparkling with curiosity as she gazed at the two conversing. “Wow, how brave! Someone actually dares to talk to Lianhua like that!”
Night Star gave her a side-eye.
“Lianhua isn’t as scary as you say, you scaredy-cat ghost.”
“Excuse me! I, Eypar, am super brave!” After hearing Night Star’s teasing, Eypar was not amused, her quirky hair standing on end like a spring ready to bounce.
But she didn’t dare put her bravery to the test and instead let her curiosity take the wheel.
“Night Star, is it true you went back in time to save this gray-haired loli?”
“Hmm~ Just did something trivial, nothing special to talk about.”
“But I want to hear it!”
“If you want to hear it, come over here. I’m too lazy to say it all.”
“Come on, Night Star’s version must be more interesting!”
“Go~go~go~”
Night Star waved her hand like she was shooing away a puppy, her patience running thin.
Meanwhile, the story exchange between White Fish and Lianhua was winding down.
They seemed to be trading tales like they were at a storytelling competition.
White Fish shared the experience of how Night Lan and Night Star saved her, and Lianhua followed suit.
Only, Lianhua performed her story using puppetry!
“Ooh~ I see, no wonder you’re called Night Star, you’re indeed the best audience ever~”
After hearing White Fish’s tale, Lianhua’s excitement skyrocketed; she seemed like she could not wait to turn it into a puppet show.
Then, Lianhua eagerly turned to Night Star.
“Night Star, do you have anything to add? I want to know more!”
“Ugh~ fine~”
Faced with Lianhua’s request, no matter how shy she felt, Night Star could not refuse. She recounted the parts White Fish didn’t know about—the observer’s perspective of the tragic story.
When Night Star finished, Lianhua closed her eyes and fell silent, as if trying to engrave the story in her mind before transforming it into a puppet performance.
At this point, Eypar wore a glum expression beside them.
“Waaah~ When I asked you just now, you wouldn’t tell me! Why does Lianhua get a front-row ticket? So unfair! Night Star, climb~”
“Geez~”
Life was tough, and Night Star sighed.
This ghost girl was so annoying! Maybe someone should just adopt her.
Just then, White Fish wore a puzzled look, glancing around.
“I think I heard someone else talking. Am I imagining things?”
Upon hearing that, Night Star shot a side-eye at the ghostly Eypar, then glanced at the left-and-right-looking White Fish, feeling a bit perplexed.
Why couldn’t White Fish see Eypar when she was right in front of her?
Night Star remembered something.
She recalled that Mo Tu once said any star holder with higher mental strength could see Eypar.
So did White Fish not see her because her mental strength wasn’t high enough?
With that thought, Night Star grabbed Eypar’s quirky hair, reminding White Fish, “White Fish, focus and take a look over here.”
“Okay.”
White Fish concentrated and looked next to Night Star.
Soon, a semi-transparent figure appeared in her line of sight.
“Is this… a ghost?”
When White Fish saw Eypar’s figure, she was a bit dumbfounded.
It was her first time seeing a ghost, but instead of feeling scared, she found it quite marvelous.
Seeing this, Night Star let go of Eypar’s hair, thinking to herself that she was right after all.
Although White Fish’s mental strength was on the low side, she could still see with focus.
Looks like Eypar wasn’t so easy to spot after all.
What if White Fish got distracted and couldn’t see her again?
Night Star began her introduction.
“She’s a friend I met in Shanghe City. Though she loves playing little pranks, please don’t be scared. She won’t hurt anyone.”
“Uh-huh! Uh-huh!” Eypar bobbed her head in the air, putting on an expression of being as harmless as a fluffy kitten.
“Oh, that makes sense! No wonder I felt someone blowing in my ear just now.”
“Sorry~~~”
In response, Eypar playfully stuck out her little tongue and smoothly floated to the other side, not inciting any negative feelings.
White Fish exhaled, not blaming Eypar at all.
As long as she confirmed it wasn’t her imagination, she was fine.
But why was there such a strange thing as ghosts?
Just as White Fish pondered that, Night Star jumped in to clarify.
“As you can see, Eypar is actually a Star Eclipse! And by the way, Lianhua is also a Star Eclipse.”
“Eh?” White Fish’s mouth fell open slightly, shocked by the revelation.
Never thought… the dangerous entities repeatedly emphasized in Night Watcher 101 existed here in Night Lan’s company—not one but two?
And they were friends?
Now White Fish was a bit confused.
“Um… White Fish?”
Seeing White Fish a little disconcerted, Night Star felt nervous for a second. She suddenly worried White Fish might not take it well.
“Aren’t you scared of Star Eclipses?”
Hearing Night Star’s words snapped White Fish back to reality; she shook her head.
“Well… if it’s a dangerous Star Eclipse that threatens lives, I’m scared. But the kind like my mom? I’m not afraid. At her last moment, she became a Star Eclipse, yet even then, she didn’t lose herself. I still remember what she told me.”
Just as Night Star guessed, White Fish didn’t generalize. After all, she had a mom who loved her dearly.
“I think Eypar and Lianhua must be like my mom, the kind that wouldn’t harm others. And since Night Star sees them as friends, then I have no reason to be scared.”
“Uh-huh, that’s right.”
Night Star let out a sigh of relief internally.
White Fish was truly a sweet, sensible child~
If it had been Zero Meow, there would’ve been a scene. No way she would be as calm as White Fish.
Come to think of it—maybe it was a good thing Zero Meow wasn’t around?
Yeah, that must be it.
Meanwhile, in another room, Zero Meow was painting happily and suddenly sneezed adorably, looking around in confusion.
“Hmm, weird meow! Who’s talking about this kitty?”
Back at the Fish Playing House, White Fish seemed to be getting along well with Eypar and Lianhua, so Night Star had no reason to worry.
If there’s a chance in the future, she should let White Fish meet the Rising Sun Theater Group.
But before that, Night Star needed to ensure all the theater members were as normal as Lianhua. Achieving that goal wouldn’t be an easy feat.
Next up, let’s start with the remodeled singer!
Night Star was determined to form a good relationship with the singer; who knows, she might soon learn her story.
Then she could work her charm and get straight to the point!
Night Star was fully prepared to become a tool for this grand plan.
No amount of determination could stop her!
