Chapter 137: Am I Really That Dumb?
Xia Hong’s car had been fixed, so before long, he was driving his eldest son, Xia Le, to the new neighborhood. That’s right, Xia Le would be living here soon too.
As soon as he stepped into the elevator with his parents, Xia Le noticed something strange—there were two bodyguards inside! Is this the neighborhood security? he wondered.
However, upon arriving at their new home, Xia Le finally understood why he had seen so many bodyguards. It turned out that Miss Jiang Kekai of the Jiang Family was right here. Indeed, at that moment, Jiang Kekai, Xia Yu, and Xia Ling were lounging on the sofa, engrossed in a TV show.
Feeling a bit sorry for Xia Ling, Jiang Kekai graciously allowed Xia Yu to sit in the middle, while she and Xia Jing took a seat on either side.
So when Xia Le walked in, he saw Xia Ling leaning against Xia Yu, playing on her phone, and Jiang Kekai was indulging herself, using Xia Yu’s thigh as a pillow while she played. It seemed like only Xia Yu was really watching TV!
But what intrigued Xia Le even more was the fact that his little brother was still wearing a dress! Had he gotten too into it?
Upon noticing Xia Le’s arrival, Jiang Kekai leisurely pushed herself up to sit. Since Xia Le, Xia Hong, and Wang Wenjuan were back, it wouldn’t do for her to continue being so carefree.
Well… that could count as her giving them some face.
Sure enough, the next second, Xia Hong and Wang Wenjuan came in, lugging the luggage.
Not only had Xia Le shown up, but he had also brought goodies from Grandpa and Grandma, like rice, farm-fresh eggs, and some vegetables. “Xiao Le, that’s your room. After you put your things down, go take a shower. By the time you’re done, dinner should be ready,” said his mother.
Hearing his mother’s voice, Xia Le quickly recollected himself, gave a quick “mm,” and hurried to his room to drop off his luggage.
Even though Xia Le had a ton of questions for Xia Yu, he had no clue where to start, especially with Jiang Kekai around, so he decided to drop the subject.
In no time, Xia Le grabbed his clothes and darted to the bathroom.
Meanwhile, Wang Wenjuan peeked into the kitchen, then approached Jiang Kekai, asking, “Xiao Jing, are you having someone come to cook tonight? If you haven’t called anyone yet, I can whip something up myself.”
“They’re already on standby downstairs. I’ll just have them bring the ingredients up to cook,” replied Jiang Kekai.
“Got it!” Wang Wenjuan immediately responded.
I have to say, the chefs Jiang Kekai hired were top-notch. Wang Wenjuan could enjoy restaurant-quality meals at home and, best of all, she wouldn’t have to wash any dishes afterward. It was awesome!
At first, she had resisted, but now Wang Wenjuan didn’t mind Jiang Kekai arranging for the chefs to cook at their home. In fact, she was starting to feel a bit reluctant about Jiang Kekai leaving. What to do?
Then, after checking the bathroom door and ensuring the two men were out of the living room, Jiang Kekai outright flopped back down, using Xia Yu’s thigh as a pillow again…
Seeing Jiang Kekai like this, Wang Wenjuan was speechless. Wasn’t she supposed to be a proper young lady? Shouldn’t she be more refined? Why was she acting so casually?
But speechless or not, Wang Wenjuan didn’t say anything against it. No need to annoy the young lady and get on her bad side.
Before long, with two chefs busy at work with their portable gas stove, dinner was soon ready and still looked quite lavish.
Don’t think Jiang Kekai prepared all those dishes just to welcome Xia Le. In reality, she was preparing nutritional meals to help Xia Yu recover faster. If Xia Yu didn’t heal, she wouldn’t even be able to cuddle up and sleep with Xia Yu for fear of hurting her injury.
Since it was time to eat, Jiang Kekai expertly lifted Xia Yu into a wheelchair. Maybe in a few days, once the surgical wound healed more, Xia Yu wouldn’t need to rely on such things anymore.
As usual, Jiang Kekai’s first bite was lovingly fed to Xia Yu, but this time she didn’t say anything. It seemed Xia Yu was accustomed to it and simply opened her mouth…
“Xiao Yu, is it good?” “Mm.”
Xia Hong, Wang Wenjuan, and Xia Ling had gotten somewhat used to this scene, so they didn’t find it strange anymore.
But Xia Le was a different story, especially since he was sitting opposite Jiang Kekai and Xia Yu. Watching this unfold astonished him and, for some reason, he also felt a twinge of jealousy.
That’s right—Xia Le felt a bit sour inside because he thought, “My little brother gets fed by a girl during meals? How lucky!”
At the same time, Xia Le noticed the wheelchair Xia Yu was sitting in, which piqued his curiosity again. After some hesitation, he finally asked, “Xiao Yu, I heard you got hurt. What happened?”
That was the first thing Xia Le said after arriving, and it was directed at Xia Yu. Even if Xia Yu didn’t want to talk about it, she still replied to her big brother, “It’s nothing. Gunshot wound.”
What he didn’t expect was that Xia Le would become even more curious. “What? Gunshot? Where’d you get hit? Does it hurt? What does it feel like?”
Xia Yu: “…”
He couldn’t really be blamed though; being raised around Grandpa and watching too many war dramas had made him genuinely curious about such matters. Sensing Xia Yu’s displeased expression, Jiang Kekai was already getting a bit annoyed.
So, Jiang Kekai slammed her hand down on the table, stood up, and shot a cold glare at Xia Le, who had upset Xia Yu.
“Hey, stop asking! Is this stuff even useful? It’s not like you got shot! If you’re that curious, how about I send you a b*llet, huh?” Nobody expected Jiang Kekai to burst out like that. As for her rudeness, no one dared to call her out on it.
Instead, as the head of the family, Xia Hong awkwardly chuckled and tried to defend his son. “Xiao Jing, don’t be mad! Xiao Le is just really curious. Don’t hold it against him!”
“Exactly! Xiao Le is just curious, he won’t do it again!” Wang Wenjuan joined in, fearing that Jiang Kekai might actually send a b*llet to Xia Le, and that would be bad news.
Xia Ling watched all this unfold but said nothing, as she thought her big brother’s question was a bit too much. Getting shot wasn’t something Xia Yu desired; reminding her of such feelings? Wasn’t that a bit excessive?
As for Xia Yu, she was taken aback by Jiang Kekai standing up for her so fiercely.
But the person Jiang Kekai was thrashing was her big brother! Xia Yu didn’t want Jiang Kekai to genuinely send her brother a b*llet; that would ruin everyone’s mood.
So, Xia Yu subtly tugged at Jiang Kekai’s skirt, signaling her to sit back down and not make things difficult for her family. Feeling Xia Yu’s little nudge, Jiang Kekai huffed, then returned to Xia Yu’s side to continue feeding her.
Sure enough, over the next little while, Xia Le really didn’t dare to speak up again. He was genuinely afraid Jiang Kekai would send him a real b*llet. Not a toy one.
Thus, this dinner passed by amidst the nervousness of the Xia family. They were truly scared of this Miss Jiang Kekai. But at the same time, they understood why Jiang Kekai was angry—it was for Xia Yu; she had lost her temper because Xia Yu had been upset.
Xia Le wasn’t stupid and quickly pieced it all together, so he felt a bit sheepish.
He had initially thought about asking Xia Yu why she was still in a dress, but after recalling what had just happened, he didn’t dare to; he feared Jiang Kekai might actually send him a b*llet this time.
So after dinner, Xia Le settled on a sofa, happily playing on his phone and watching TV. Life was good. Suddenly, did he see something out of the corner of his eye?
Xia Le saw Xia Ling coming out of her room with a shiny new pink laptop. Hey, that was the thing he dreamed about! With this, he wouldn’t have to sneak off to the internet café to play games anymore!
Xia Ling gleefully plopped down next to Xia Yu with the laptop and invited, “Sisters, how about we play Landlord together?”
“Don’t look at me; if Xiao Yu plays, I’ll join you guys, but I want to be a farmer with Xiao Yu against the landlord,” Jiang Kekai declared her terms.
Xia Ling puffed up her cheeks, clearly not impressed. “Why? You look more like a landlord to me, why don’t you take that role, and I can be a farmer with Xiao Yu?” “No way! I’m being a farmer with Xiao Yu, or I’m not playing,” Jiang Kekai insisted.
“Fine, then I’m playing with Xiao Yu — I’ll help you log in,” Xia Ling resumed.
“No way! Without my permission, Xiao Yu can’t touch the computer,” Jiang Kekai shot back.
“Why not?”
“Because I bought both laptops!” Xia Ling protested.
Seeing Xia Ling’s reluctant expression made Jiang Kekai smirk, clearly enjoying this little victory.
In an effort to cool things off between them, Xia Yu timidly proposed, “How about… I be the landlord?”
“That’s even worse! Without me guiding you, you’re just going to lose all your beans, you silly goose.”
Xia Yu: “…”
For some reason, hearing those words made Xia Yu feel a bit uncomfortable. Was she really that dumb, like Jiang Kekai said? She had won before as a landlord!
In the end, Xia Ling proposed a fair compromise: “How about we let the system randomly choose the landlord? And no one is allowed to complain afterwards.” After that, with Xia Le watching enviously, Jiang Kekai emerged from her and Xia Yu’s room, bringing out two brand-new laptops…
