Chapter 141

Chapter 141: Clueless Little Yu

The next day, Xia Yu slept in like a champ and woke up to find Jiang Kekai, the young lady, awake and playing on her laptop. As soon as she noticed Xia Yu waking up, Jiang Kekai gave her cute little face a tickle and said with a doting smile, “Awake already? Go brush your teeth and wash your face. We’re about to head out.”

“Little Ning, where are we going?”

Xia Yu was still a bit groggy and hadn’t quite remembered what was going on.

Jiang Kekai didn’t seem to mind Xia Yu’s confusion and continued, “I thought I’d show you some of the world beyond your room. Your outfit has arrived, and I’m going to help you get ready. ‘Hmm,’ she nodded.”

After getting off the bed and putting on slippers, Xia Yu started to shuffle towards the bathroom in a daze.

Indeed, Xia Yu had progressed to the point where she could walk unaided—so long as she didn’t move too fast and avoid aggravating her wounds. Now, there wasn’t much difference between her and a normal person. Passing by the living room, she was surprised to see her elder brother and Xia Ling up so early. They were leisurely engrossed in their laptops.

Xia Le’s computer didn’t have the best specs, but it was good enough for casual gaming, like… various 399 games.

Why weren’t they playing in their rooms? Of course, it was because the Wi-Fi signal in the living room was much better… after all, the router was in Xia Yu and Jiang Kekai’s room.

Upon seeing that only Xia Yu came out this time and not Jiang Kekai, Xia Le got all worked up. He immediately waved at Xia Yu, signaling her to come over—he had something to discuss with her.

And indeed, Xia Yu came over as he wished.

As Xia Yu approached, Xia Le couldn’t help sneaking a couple of glances toward her room, confirming Jiang Kekai wasn’t coming out. With that settled, Xia Le whispered to Xia Yu, trying to persuade her, “Hey, let me switch laptops with you? This one was bought for me by Dad yesterday. It’s perfectly fine.”

“What? Why would I want to do that?”

“Well, nothing in particular… Would you switch? If you agree, I’ll give you a hundred bucks.”

Yes, Xia Le had witnessed Xia Ling play big games flawlessly.

And then he found out that Xia Ling’s laptop was the same model as Xia Yu’s, which meant Xia Yu’s should also be capable of handling the big games.

So to play freely at home, he was willing to give it a shot.

“No way,” Xia Yu replied instantly.

She wasn’t foolish; she had seen how much Jiang Kekai paid for the computer. There was no doubt in her mind that it was superior to her elder brother’s.

Hence, she had no intention of handing it over just for a measly hundred bucks.

Xia Ling, sitting on the sofa, watched the scene unfold and wasn’t surprised by Xia Yu’s reaction. Though she seemed oblivious to many things, that was only when Jiang Kekai was around; away from her, Xia Yu could be quite smart.

Unexpectedly, Xia Le’s expression turned sour when he heard Xia Yu’s firm rejection. He thought back to the days when his younger brother used to listen to him unquestioningly, wondering why things had changed.

Seeing Xia Le’s change of mood, Xia Yu grew impatient herself and wanted to leave. However, right as Xia Yu turned to go, Xia Le grabbed her wrist with one swift motion and stared intently into her eyes, asking persistently, “Come on, Yu, what do I have to do to convince you to exchange laptops with me?”

Caught off guard, Xia Yu and Xia Ling only realized too late that Xia Le had secured Xia Yu’s wrist.

Struggling to free herself, Xia Yu conceded reluctantly to her elder brother, “No swapping, period.”

Meanwhile, Xia Ling rushed over to stop Xia Le, reminding him softly, “Brother, stop. Yu’s wound isn’t healed yet, moving around could make things worse.”

It hit Xia Le then that Xia Yu had been hurt recently and had only just left her wheelchair.

With no other options, Xia Le reluctantly released Xia Yu, his tone softer but still insistent, “Yu, why not swap with me? You won’t even use the laptop. It’s such a waste.”

Xia Yu was moved but not entirely convinced. However, she bristled at his final remark, “No, I won’t.”

Fuming, she stormed directly to the bathroom, leaving Xia Ling to return to her previous spot and keep playing, no longer troubled by her brother’s antics.

Back in the bedroom, Xia Yu discovered to her surprise that there wasn’t a soul around.

Yes, this was none other than Zhao Wei, Jiang Kekai’s personal bodyguard. She naturally followed Jiang Kekai wherever she went, so now, with Jiang Kekai stepping out, so did Zhao Wei.

Upon realizing Xia Yu had returned, Jiang Kekai abruptly changed course, saying to Zhao Wei, “Zhao Wei, you can step outside. I need to get Xiao Yu dressed.” Seemingly about to say something, Zhao Wei hesitated, then quietly exited and closed the door behind her.

Alright, Xia Yu, once we’re done here, we’re heading out to attend an upper-class social gathering. Our attire will matter a lot; we don’t want to look out of place. Hand over your little hands, sister’s going to dress you up.”

“Huh?!”

Xia Yu blushed deeply. Even though Jiang Kekai had seen her before, she still felt a twinge of shyness each time. Her old male psyche still lingered, affecting her.

Jiang Kekai found this another of Xia Yu’s adorable traits, so she didn’t bother explaining. Instead, she walked over and started manipulating Xia Yu’s body as if she were a large Barbie doll, efficiently and confidently—as though she’d done this before.

Jiang Kekai pulled off Xia Yu’s sleepwear and then drew out a pink-and-white dress from a box, carefully dressing Xia Yu.

Given its nature as a little girl’s dress, the overall design was modest, with an open-shouldered feature revealing Xia Yu’s adorably petite shoulders.

Finally, Jiang Kekai tied Xia Yu’s hair up into cute pigtails, adding a few more years to Xia Yu’s look.

Beaming at Xia Yu’s cuteness, Jiang Kekai couldn’t resist giving her a kiss on the cheek. Then instructing Xia Yu to sit on the bed, Jiang Kekai said, “You’re so cute, Xia Yu. Hold on, I’ll join you soon.”

Then, Jiang Kekai began changing her own outfit, effortlessly slipping into a fancy gown, confirming her status as a proper young lady who was accustomed to this kind of event.

Xia Yu, sitting on a princess bed, struggled to keep her composure. Her thoughts were elsewhere, recalling with fondness the way Jiang Kekai had just kissed her. She pondered the reasons behind Jiang Kekai’s affectionate gesture—is it simply because she’s adorable? Doubtful since Xia Ling was equally cute. Xia Yu was genuinely clueless in matters of affection.

In terms of maturity, she was only mature in understanding practical matters like chores and being considerate, but she had zero experience with romance or even comprehending terms like boyfriends or girlfriends.

“First-grade pickpocket, second-grade thief, third-grade beauty jumps ballet, fourth-grade homework mountain, fifth-grade siblings fall in love, sixth-grade exams turn into carpets.” This catchy rhyme was something Xia Yu knew well, although its meaning remained a mystery. It just sounded good and was easy to memorize.

Gazing blankly into space, Xia Yu was roused from her reverie when Jiang Kekai waved her hand in front of her face. Jiang Kekai could tell Xia Yu was deep in thought by her distant gaze. “What are you thinking about, Yu? So absorbed.”

“Nope.”

Xia Yu quickly averted her eyes, too shy to reveal her thoughts. Grinning, Jiang Kekai playfully pinched Xia Yu’s cheek, then found Xia Yu’s shoes, lifting her gently to slip them on.

True, Xia Yu’s wound was on her abdomen, making bending down impossible, hence the necessity of Jiang Kekai’s assistance.

Finally, both dressed and ready, Jiang Kekai took Xia Yu’s hand and headed out together…

Zhao Wei stood guard outside, astounded by the sight of Jiang Kekai and Xia Yu emerging together, fully dressed. Zhao Wei had assumed Jiang Kekai would let Xia Yu finish first then follow her out.

Now, seeing them step out simultaneously, Zhao Wei wondered just how close their bond had grown. A sudden pang hit her heart when she recalled that Jiang Kekai shared a bed with Xia Yu. Clearly, she had overthought the situation.
