Chapter 46: Seeking the Unknown Her
“Specialties in our troupe include magic, comedy, juggling, visual fraud by the fraudster, maintaining order by the gentleman, puppet shows by the puppet master, and you, my dear audience performer, watch the show. And with the retired announcer, the only thing we’ve never had is someone who can carry a tune.”
The theater group leader said this as if it were nothing. But somehow, Night Star felt as though her heart had been punched.
There wasn’t any?
Then why did she feel this way?
No one noticed anything strange happening; everything remained exactly the same. The world seemed to continue just as it was supposed to.
Except for Night Star, who felt quite the opposite.
Was she the one going nuts?
“Mmm…”
Night Star lowered her head and didn’t speak another word. The silence within the troupe weighed heavily on her.
“Theater group leader, Lianhua, I don’t feel well. I think I’ll go rest…” she dejectedly informed.
Upon hearing this, Lianhua grew concerned.
“Night Star…”
The leader calmly nodded and replied, “If you’re feeling unwell, then rest. You’re our only audience member, and without you, no one would see our performances.”
Night Star nodded weakly and offered a forced smile towards Lianhua.
“Don’t worry about me. I’ll probably be fine tomorrow. Don’t worry, it’s just needing some rest, both body and mind.”
Hearing this, Lianhua found herself at a loss for words.
“If there’s anything you need, please tell me.”
“Mmm-hm.”
With that, Night Star left the theater.
…
A moment later, upon returning home, Night Star didn’t immediately enter but instead knocked on the neighbor’s door.
“Is Mutu in?”
“He’s not,” came the lazy response from inside.
Night Star facepalmed hard.
“Mmph! I’m mad! I’m making a wish to turn you into a little loli!”
In an instant, the door swung open and out walked a black-haired man who looked slightly exasperated.
“You wish things like this? Not gonna happen. Come on, tell me what you want.”
“I feel like I forgot something really important, but I just can’t remember what.”
Mutu raised an eyebrow.
“What’s that got to do with me?”
“Aren’t you forgetting something too?” Night Star gave him a weird look.
“Forgotten what? Everything is crystal clear in my brain.”
“Will you help me with your stars?”
“Sorry, currently, I’m on a celestial holiday.”
“So you know why your stars are off?”
“Not sure… wait a sec.”
Mutu frowned, realizing something was off.
He felt like he had forgotten something extremely important. Information gaps loomed large in his mind, as if forcefully removed by something.
Is the world bugging out?
Seeing Mutu’s face, Night Star took a sigh of relief.
Finally, someone reliable.
“Do you know what situation this is?”
“No, by my wits alone, I could guess that some existence is interfering with our memories, but I don’t know by whom. But if our stars still functioned, we’d know more.”
“Mmm…”
Night Star’s expression turned glum.
Mutu glanced at her and said, “Cheer up. Use your own stars to fix this.”
“Do you mean make a wish?”
“Yep. You are the only one to change this situation. Use the power of your stars if you must!”
“Oh… okay.”
Carrying a heavy heart, Night Star returned to her shack.
“Night Star, welcome back! You’re home early today. Did you forget something at home?”
Ghost girl Eypar quickly appeared, smiling brightly.
“Huh, I’ve got a lot on my mind, Eypar, so don’t bother me right now.”
“Aww, okay.”
Seeing Night Star’s serious face, Eypar calmed down.
Night Star sat at her desk, contemplating.
Judging from the oddities, some person’s presence had disappeared from everyone’s memory. No records or recollections remained. That person must have been a member of the Rising Sun Troupe, causing this problem probably due to their star eclipse effect.
Night Star felt furious; how could a star eclipse be so malicious it even hurt its owner!
Even Little Lian wasn’t this bad.
“That person must be pretty significant to the troupe. Otherwise, I wouldn’t care so much…”
She had to remember who that person was!
Even if it was because of the extra-ordinary star’s power.
But to use the wish machine?
From previous experiences, wishes come true apparently only if the person asking agrees.
Did that person wish for her already?
Night Star completely forgot.
Her memory all wiped clean—scary indeed.
But… she placed faith in herself.
If she knew a friend was in trouble, she’d definitely lend a hand.
“Though I don’t know your wish, I will do whatever it takes to help,”Night Star declared resolutely. Eypar stood there stunned by her determined stance.
“Wooooah~”
Night Star seems quite powerful now.
Is this the coolest little girl in the world?
So inspiring!
Time drifted toward midnight.
Nightlan had long returned home.
Washing up, Night and Nightlan sat on the bed, a bit apprehensive about what was coming next.
Although her courage had grown since when she was first faced with such situations, she wasn’t bold enough to be utterly calm.
“Mmm… what scary things might happen?”
Eypar floated silently nearby, guessing Nightlan’s intentions.
“Night Star again heading off on some timeline?”
After hearing the stories of Lianhua and Baiyu, Eypar understood what Nightlan could do with the hidden celestial powers.
Must be some impressive stars!
Eypar knew Night was a tiny bit timid. Without boosting her courage, many things couldn’t happen.
So she floated in front of Nightlan, holding her arms around them.
“Cheer up! A big sister’s hug always makes even the bravest less scared, right?”
“B-big sister… you’re too straightforward…”
Nightlan got a facepalm instantly.
But with Eypar’s encouragement, her tension was greatly relieved.
Night pushed Eypar away and lay down next to Night.
“Be quiet, I want to sleep.”
“Mm-hm~”
As soon as the light went out, the room fell silent.
Night and Nightlan stared at each other for a few seconds before letting thoughts drift away and closing eyes.
“Help me remember… please…”
A moment later, the two girls drifted into sleep.
This time, beside them, as Eypar saw their bodies glow lightly, she felt a sense of sanctity.
“Woah~”
Inspired, Eypar shot into Nightlan’s form.
Ding!
Next second, space and time glitched, everything froze.
