Chapter 144: Young and Accomplished Jiang Kekai
“Little Yu, do you think that boy over there is handsome?”
As soon as Jiang Kekai’s voice rang out, Xia Yu found herself caught in a headlock, her cheeks being mercilessly pinched and rubbed by her sister.
That’s right! At this very moment, Jiang Kekai had completely forgotten about Xia Yu’s delicate psyche that needed handling with care. Seeing how much Xia Yu cared about Lin Jie, she was just super annoyed.
Poor Xia Yu could only let out muffled cries as Jiang Kekai continued her aggressive face massage, and of course, no one came to help; she was left to suffer in silence.
Jiang Dong and Jiang Hanhang were watching this chaos unfold, utterly shocked that Jiang Kekai and Xia Yu’s bond was so strong. They now had to rethink how to interact with Xia Yu moving forward. After all, no one wanted to trigger Jiang Kekai’s bad side.
Once she calmed down a bit, Jiang Kekai finally released the poor, distressed Xia Yu, ruffled her hair, and fixed her teary eyes on her, instructing, “Little Yu, you’re not allowed to look at those boys anymore, okay? They’re really dangerous for you!”
“Uh-huh~”
At this point, Xia Yu wouldn’t dare defy Jiang Kekai’s orders. She was terrified of being bullied for no reason, so she basically agreed to whatever Jiang Kekai said.
Meanwhile, Jiang Bin and Zhang Yunzhi took note of the playful scuffle but chose to ignore it. They figured kids should handle their own squabbles, and it wasn’t like Xia Yu was a boy who could take advantage of their daughter—at least it seemed like their daughter was the one doing the bullying!
Thus, Jiang Bin and Zhang Yunzhi discreetly turned a blind eye to the whole scene.
Little did they know, more and more people were noticing Xia Yu. The better she seemed to get along with Jiang Kekai, the more curious everyone became about her identity. After Jiang Kekai’s earlier face-smushing, Xia Yu had finally learned her lesson and was no longer risking a wandering gaze.
Maybe… this was Jiang Kekai’s possessiveness shining through!
This entrepreneur gathering was surely going to drag on for ages. It wasn’t just about a meal; the hosts had set aside plenty of time for networking, so it wouldn’t wrap up until late.
After playing on her phone for what felt like forever, Xia Yu could no longer hold back her urge and poked Jiang Kekai beside her. “What’s wrong?”
Noticing that her Little Cutie was touching her, Jiang Kekai suspected Xia Yu might need something. Her tone was completely unguarded, and soon everyone from the Jiang family was curiously looking over to see what Xia Yu wanted.
Xia Yu initially intended to whisper, but with everyone watching, she had no choice but to lean closer to Jiang Kekai’s ear and discreetly say, “Sister Little Ning, I need to go to the bathroom.”
After sitting for so long, she had been holding it in for ages, thinking the gathering would wrap up quickly, but here they were—it seemed like it would never end!
Upon hearing Xia Yu’s confession, Jiang Kekai felt a little thrill of victory inside. Her training was paying off! Xia Yu was finally relying on her!
Naturally, Jiang Kekai’s response was bound to impress Xia Yu. She took Xia Yu’s hand and stood up, announcing to her parents, “We’re going to the bathroom!”
“Sure,” came the reply.
Even though their eldest daughter had often been kidnapped before, for reasons unknown, Jiang Bin had an inexplicable trust in her. And thus, Jiang Kekai began pulling Xia Yu along in search of the restroom.
“See? I told you Jiang Kekai is super clingy to that girl!” Lin Jie couldn’t help but chuckle, seeing them stick together like glue, feeling that not expressing his thoughts would lead to a meltdown.
As for his friends, they listened but didn’t dare make their move with Jiang Kekai around. They definitely didn’t want to provoke trouble!
Now, Xia Yu was seriously dreading using a public restroom. Whether she entered the boys’ or girls’ one, she felt uneasy either way. She had no idea why, though.
Of course, with Jiang Kekai around, Xia Yu’s chances of making a naïve excursion into the boys’ restroom were gone. If she did, she might end up with a reputation in high society she wasn’t ready for! After emerging from the restroom still looking glum, Jiang Kekai couldn’t resist teasing her, gently pinching her slightly cold cheek. “What’s got you down, Little Yu? Why the long face?”
“Sis Little Ning, I don’t want to stay here anymore. It’s so boring.”
“Pfft, if you don’t want to stay, then don’t! Sister Little Ning will take you home now.”
With a playful pinch to Xia Yu’s adorable nose, Jiang Kekai continued to hold her hand as they left the restroom. This time, the frown on Xia Yu’s face seemed to lift a bit.
However, just as Jiang Kekai was about to lead Xia Yu back to the Jiang family’s area, an unexpected event occurred. A boy, seemingly inspired by some local courage, approached Jiang Kekai and Xia Yu. “Hello! I am—”
“Get out of the way!”
Before the boy could finish his introduction, Jiang Kekai dragged Xia Yu right around him, heading straight for the Jiang family. Was this a new phenomenon? Oddly enough, Jiang Kekai was used to such interruptions. One gets accustomed to these things, after all.
But for Xia Yu, it was a different story. She was amazed that her usually gentle sister could be so cold toward others, especially to someone rudely interrupted like that!
Should she say something to her little sister? The thought crossed her mind, but with the destination so close, Xia Yu resolved to keep her thoughts to herself for now. Maybe she should save this chat for a private moment so Jiang Kekai wouldn’t be embarrassed in front of her family.
Getting closer to the Jiang family spot, Jiang Kekai decided not to sit but confidently marched right up to her dad. “Dad, I’m taking Little Yu home.”
Jiang Bin was taken aback. “Going home already? Well, if you want to go, then go!”
Huh? Just like that?
Hearing their dad’s casual acceptance, Jiang Dong and Jiang Hanhang couldn’t contain their excitement and quickly chimed in, “I want to go home too!”
Typically, Jiang Bin wouldn’t let his kids leave early. These events were meant to broaden their horizons and strengthen connections, so he rarely allowed early exits.
But Jiang Kekai was an exception. Who could stop her? Did anyone dare question the legendary Jiang Kekai of the Jiang family? The smart, capable, and sometimes notorious girl with award-winning accolades and entrepreneurial flair was usually the envy of everyone her age.
Jiang Bin often wondered how it was possible that Jiang Dong couldn’t compete with his sister’s brainpower. If only he had half her talent, he wouldn’t be so stressed all the time!
Yet, outsiders saw Jiang Kekai as a prized catch. If Jiang Dong could marry her, they’d not only gain her intelligence but the power of the Jiang family too!
However, as of now, no one had succeeded in courting her, not even the head of the prestigious Shangguan family from the capital. If Jiang Kekai didn’t like someone, that was the end of the discussion. Hence, Jiang Bin refrained from meddling in his daughter’s affairs; after all, what parent wouldn’t want their child to be happy?
As long as his daughter wasn’t interested, it didn’t matter who approached her. The Jiang Group was number one in Demon City and fifth nationally; which family wouldn’t be terrified of risking their reputation over a girl who wasn’t interested?
Of course, someone wouldn’t build such a vast empire without smarts. Nobody would gamble their family’s future over one daughter’s whims!
Now, Jiang Bin simply glanced at his older son and younger daughter, before speaking slowly. “Hanhang can come back, but you, Dong, have to stay and keep studying.”
“Ah~”
“What’s with that ‘ah’? If you had half of Little Ning’s brilliance, would I need to worry so much about you?”
Jiang Dong was left speechless by his father’s remark. It was a known fact that Jiang Kekai was the best among her peers, and while he was proud to have such a capable sister, the pressure of being compared was unbearable! “Alright, big bro, you just keep eating. Sister and I are leaving!”
As they were leaving, mischievous Jiang Hanhang couldn’t help but pat Jiang Dong on the head, teasing her older brother just because he was a boy and destined to inherit the family business.
Once upon a time, Jiang Bin had planned everything about the inheritance—assigning companies and shares to his kids before he retired to avoid conflicts over money. He thought it was better to settle these matters early to prevent his children from fighting over finances later on, especially since he wouldn’t want to d*e early just to clear inheritance disputes.
Thus, he set a clear timeline for his retirement, outlining everything plainly.
However, he underestimated his daughters. Jiang Kekai flatly rejected her father’s plan, declaring that she’d start her own business once she came of age. And she did—quite successfully!
As for Jiang Hanhang, she took the easy route, wanting just one percent of the Jiang Group stocks to coast along, saying she’d simply study finance and let her big brother handle the actual business.
This left all the sweet responsibilities falling onto Jiang Dong, making him both joyous and burdened.
